>Laugh. Oh yes. Long and hard.
> You practiced this one from watching those movies from Kourindou. Ohohohoho~

>Pick up Rocky, trust the curse to keep Tewi from getting away.
> You take a moment to collect Rocky from the floor. Tewi tries to make a break for it, but predictably trips on a conveniently placed...well, nothing. She just sort of falls. You can't help but laugh.

> Retrieved Rocky. Quest: Un-Armed! Complete!

>Consider patting Tewi on the head and calling her a good girl.
>That is a ridiculous idea and you refuse to give it any further consideration.

...But those ears...so tempting. It's like she WANTS you to pet her.

>Kick her. Not hard.
>"This is your repentance for being a dirty, good-for-nothing cheater. And being a useless, worthless, and pathetic person in general. And for stealing my Rocket Arm. And for spiiling a drink on it."
>Restrain her with something, or knock her unconscious with as little force as possible.
>"Ow." Through a strange stroke of luck, you manage to hit Tewi in the exact spot where she fell and bruised herself earlier. CRITICAL HIT!
"I can tell you...ow...at least half of those are untrue."
You take another moment to find something to tie Tewi up with, well aware that her odds of escape are zero. Doesn't stop her from trying, though, and sure enough this attempt proceeds to knock her out cold. How nice of her to save you the trouble.

>Cash in on "good girl" plan in front of the sheriff.
>There's a good little manipulative bitch. Who's a good little manipulative bitch? You are.

The sheriff eyes you uncertainly for a moment as you relieve the urge you've been holding in for the whole trip, but he eventually relieves you of the unconscious rabbit.

> Received 25,000 Yen.

> "Thank you, ma'am. You've done this village two great services now."

"Actually..."

Another voice emerges from the doorway, and turning around you see a young child wielding a brush.

"Would it be alright if I made that three?"

"Ah, perhaps I should have introduced myself beforehand to avoid this sort of misunderstanding. I am Hieda no Akyu, the latest child of Miare. It's a long story, but I work as the chronicler of this human village."
Ah, the child historian. She isn't aware of it, but her friend Yukari made her existence well known to the youkai of Gensokyo. She's convinced that her heritage - a photographic memory, in combination with reincarnation - is a well-kept secret, but you've heard of her beforehand. She's surprised to see that her name is enough to earn your trust.
"So. From what I've been able to tell, you're a kappa, right? For all of my work, the kappa civilisation is one that has a habit of keeping its matters to itself. Would it be possible for you to help me prepare a piece on it? There will be payment, of course."
...Hm. An interesting offer, but there's a problem. You haven't been home for years now, so if you want to give a genuine article you'd need to head there yourself and reimmerse yourself in the everyday kappa lifestyle...should you accept, or just get back to your normal SCIENCY exploits?

>"What kind of compensation?"
>You are something of an unknown at best. Of the kappa that do recognise your name, most consider you either a hopeless dreamer or a clueless wannabe.
>Kappa aren't secretive so much as they are reclusive. They don't see any reason to interact with the rest of Gensokyo, so they don't. There's no heretic laws against telling other races about the kappa - they just generally don't see a point, and they're usually too busy working with their own technologies to care what people think about them.
>"Besides listing your name as a much-valued contributor? I believe I know a few farmers in the village who could offer you a constant supply of cucumbers if you do a good job."

>Then begin to consider the best ways to de-estrange ourselves from kappadom.
>Re-entry shouldn't be particularly difficult. The city of the kappa is hardly a secret, it's just that it's designed so that races other than the kappa can't usually reach it. It's built into a wall of the Mountain of Youkai, and the only point of entrance is through an underground reservoir. It's something of a trek - a good half-hour swim - but it does its job in terms of keeping out troublemakers.

>And ways to make it easier to take notes/record interviews for the report. If there were a way to replay whatever you've seen for her...
> Akyu hands you a notepad. Thank God, it's waterproof. You're gonna need that for the way in. You came up with another handy tool for such an occasion - you call it the Perfectly Elegant Nonspill Companion for the Invention of Literature. That's a bit of a mouthful, so you just call it a pencil.

> Received Notepad.

> There are some basic stores around here - grocers, blacksmiths, the usual. What the kapp would really, appreciate, though, is some new inventions and machines to tinker with, and again Kourindou is probably the best place to go for that. Whether Rinnosuke will want to see you again following your previous encounter....might be iffy, but you won't know if you don't try.

Rinnosuke is much more on-guard this time around - rest assured the magazine from last night will be making no appearances today.

>"That's, uh...more information than I could have cared for."
Rinnosuke coughs and adjusts his glasses.
"So, uh. Infogathering? I have this quirky device from beyond the border, actually..."
He goes into the back and pulls out a handheld device.
"I call this the Portable Drawing Automaton - or PDA for short. Imagine a notepad, minus all the paper and pencil nonsense. There's even a voice recognition program, though it doesn't seem very co-operative most of the time. Since you're...uh...a valued customer, I'll go ahead and cut the price right down to 20,000 Yen. This is cutting edge tech, after all - even the kappa would want to catch sight of this. Sound good?"

'Wouldn't you like to know what I'm wearing under this dress?'
Of course, Rinnosuke's face turns ashen white. The PDA beeps, and as he hands it to you the message is perfectly reconstructed. Maybe it just responds well to your voice.
You're about to start on more testing before Rinnosuke decides to throw in a nice little bargain. 15,000 Yen later, the PDA is yours.

> Received PDA.

"Ah. It's a shame you didn't come earlier. I had another piece of technology you might've liked, but I went and sold it this morning. Odds are you'll come across it soon enough, but...maybe you oughta just go now. As in right now. Bye."
