>Stand and point dramatically!
>"HER! It is her! This girl whispered curses against me! She has compelled me with her foul imprecations to the work of her dark mistress, Shinki! Did you not hear the awful words she had just put into my mouth with her foul curses moments ago?"
> "Silence, child! You would accuse Abbie O'Malley, whose family has dwelt within our town for five generations?! Why would we trust your word over hers? And why is it you refer to the devil by a name we do not know? Guilty, guilty!!"
The girl offers you a smirk of triumph as she returns to her seat.

> Think these people are a bunch of morons

(Sorry I just had to, I mean this is kinda....really...stupid)
> (The actual Salem Witch Trials weren't much better, to be frank. Admittedly I'm not being COMPLETELY accurate, but.)

> "Child, how do you wish to be judged? There are multiple tests you can use to prove your innocence - we can search your body for witchmarks, test your weight against one of our bibles, or see if the sacred waters of our river will hold you. If you are innocent of witchcraft, you have nothing to fear, correct?"

(Yeah, the Witch Trials in Salem were...something. And often just a cover for other things)

>"Living among you? And how do you think she wormed her way into your town and inflicted the evil she obviously did? And blaming a simple traveler? Can you think of a more perfect cover? What, I ask you, is more likely to infect this place? A foul rot hiding among you for ages, or a traveler who knows you not? And why do I know that name? BECAUSE SHE TOLD IT TO ME!"

"But Abbie is the daughter of Reverend O'Malley! You would accuse the child whose father brings down God's righteous hand upon the wicked? The greatest blasphemy!!"

> Oh, wait, we have sweet magical powers. We can use those to skew the competition in our favour.
> "Of course, I have nothing to hide. What do these trials that you spoke of entail?"
"The first of the trials shall place you on a scale against the Holy Bible. If you outweigh it, you are free to go; if not, you will be sentenced to a swift and holy death. Next is the witchmark test - your body will be searched for the dark, black marks that the devil leaves on his followers. If they are pricked and do not bleed, you are guilty.
Finally, there is the test of the river. You will be bound to a chair and thrown into the river. If you float, you are guilty, as the sacred water will have rejected your tainted blood; if you sink, your name will be posthumously cleared of the accusation."

>"Is she the reverend's daughter? Or does she merely take the appearance of the Reverend's daughter? Where better to hide than those that would avoid accusation."
> That one, at least, is enough to make the jury think. Abbie's face takes on a little ounce of concern, but she promptly nudges one of her nearby companions. The girl then proceeds to flail around wildly!
"Oh, Lord, help me! That girl, the one in the defendant's chair! She's calling on her spirits to possess me in order to smite Abbie! Please, people of the court, hear my plea!"
This time, unsurprisingly, less people are impressed. Abbie is surrounded by an angry mob...
"Hm. Perhaps Abbie's claims are to be...examined, but it remains that you attempted to free a since-convicted witch from her trial. Unless you can recite the Lord's Prayer here and now, I would have you choose your test of innocence."
> You've never heard of this Lord's Prayer, so you should probably get a-choosin'.

> You take a moment to imagine what this Holy Bible could possibly look like. Your mind paints on image of an overgrown bird on two legs, with various holes poking out of its chest. You hold back the urge to giggle in the midst of the courtroom.

>Consider your choices. Which one of them would be the best for you to survive?
> You aren't certain how much a Holy Bible weighs, but you get the awkward feeling it's a test that's very easy to rig.
> You don't know about these witchmarks either, but you have some burn marks from an earlier experiment that might be damning. No mere needle will make a youkai bleed, after all.
> The river test seems promising - after all, drowning is hardly much of a risk for you - but the main problem is that after you've been thrown in it might be rather difficult getting back out of the chair.

> The river test seems to be the best in order to get out of here.  After all, we still need to find Cirno.
> You tell the judge that you'll prove your innocence through the waters. He seems surprised by your decision, since it's easily the deadliest of the tests, but eventually calls for the guards to escort you to the nearby river. You're kept under close watch at all times, so it looks like you've got no way to avoid this.

> There's already a chair waiting for you when you get there, and you're quickly tied to it. A priest offers you last rites, and you tilt your head in confusion because you aren't sure why right gets preference over left. There's a moment of silence, until the guards do both of you a service and throw you in.

> You sink, unsurprisingly, given that your pockets are still lined with all sorts of gadgets. A few minutes pass, and above you you can overhear the crowd letting out ahs. The priest says that God should have mercy on your soul. Which God? Kanako? Suwako? Shinki?

> Anyway, they disperse shortly afterward, presumably to deal with the false claims of Abbey O'Malley. Now you just need to figure out a way out of these ropes. Unless you're here for several hours, air is hardly going to be a problem.

> How do you use the arms (rocket arms, as they are now) with tied hands? You make a note to find a way to do that some point in the future.

> Test the rope to see how well its tied.
> Try to sever the rope on any rocks lining the riverbed.
> Say what you will about their sanity, but these people are damn good at tying ropes.

> There are some rocks you should be able to work with nearby. You shimmy the chair over and start wearing them away. This might take a while, so now's your chance to start thinking about your next plan...odds are the people of Salem won't be too pleased to see you still among the living, and Cirno's 'execution' will be short at hand.

>Make something you can hold the smoke in.
>You do as much the instant you finish with those goddamn ropes and haul yourself out of the river. You're soaking wet, but that's hardly something out of the ordinary for you. A few minutes of tinkering with your bits and bobs - thank Kanako that they're rustproof - and you have yourself an empty Smoke Bomb.

> Received 1 Smoke Bomb (Empty).

>Ponder the possibility of claiming the sacred river refused to drown you, and it was a miracle. Sanae gets all kinds of mileage out of miracles, after all.
> You worry that if you claim to bring miracles into account, the people here will treat you as some sort of messiah to their religion. Problematic, given that you know absolutely nothing about said faith.

> Good old sulphur + saltpeter + fire haven't sent people wrong before, let's go with that. How's our chemistry? Suphur we can nick from ye olde apothecary, saltpeter's gonna require a little more effort.
> Sulphur you can most certainly steal, and after some observation there's a nice little apothecary hanging on the edge of the town. You know that potassium nitrate gets used in fertilisers, and there's a lot of farmland around here. Of course, given the current time and era, you get the feeling you'll have to settle for, uh, natural fertiliser.
