Answer: Frogatto! Perhaps the best eponymous free (on P.C. [supposedly there's an iPhone version in the works]) platformer of 2010. Brought to you by some of the leading minds of The Battle for Wesnoth, which is where I learned about this from <Tonepoet points to the Rocklobber>.

Yeah, I don't post here aallll too often but I know you at least some of you guys like independently made 2D games like Cave Story and oh Touhou so I thought I'd post about this here since it really is a rather neat game, with beautifully detailed pixel art, a hint of quirkiness and lots of color. As for the playstyle Frogatto himself controls kinda like the title states, albeit a little more sharply and I never really did get far enough in Rayman to determine if that's anything more than a superficial resemblance.

It's not quiiiite finished yet but the first release cannidate is out today sooo I'm guessing it's ready for the public, maybe? <Shrugs shoulders>

Eh, this game is alright, but the controls and collision detection are driving me up a bloody wall. It doesn't really feel fully polished. Anyway, I'm probably gonna end up finishing it anyway. Here's to hoping future versions tighten the controls and feel a bit better.

It's fairly entertaining, the backgrounds are pretty but I'm only at what I suppose is the third stage, not even at the town. 
The jumping is one of the most annoying problems for me, I keep falling off of things when trying to jump off them. The tongue could stand to be a bit longer too.

Sadly, the tongue and spit distances both need to be upgraded, via visits to Chopple's shop, not that it matters as the level designs really don't mesh well with this game's method of combat.

Also, holy cow this game has on of the most over composed soundtracks ever. Seriously, look at these loop lengths! They don't make the slightest bit of sense for what they are, nor what they're used for. Doesn't help that the songs in general aren't that catchy.
