I'd think that half the difficulty with that would be not accidentally picking up a pod along the way. Those things stay on the screen freaking forever.
I've been playing RFJ a lot the last few days. I'm trying to actually learn the scoring system this time since on SotW I was pretty much survival-playing all the way through. Anyone know how to trigger that group of fairies at the sliding platform thing in sim 05? I've only done it once.
pods block enemy bullets (not lasers, flamethrowers or missiles, though) and give you additional firepower (I prefer the Homing missiles, because they allow you to kill enemies which aren't aligned with you, before they can threaten you or help overwhelm you), however, they help increase rank (I heard that the fixed pods do increase rank faster). Still, playing without pods (and dodging them :p) is quite a challenge, though fortunately, not the only
way to score well.. (I'm fine with starting to use pods on stage 4 or later)
The fairies from Sim 05 will appear if you "paint" the scaffold with your ship, as mentioned
here. Scoring is rather simple to understand, not as easy to perform, though, but is fun, as long as you can make things go according to keikaku (translator note: keikaku means plan); chain messages to multiply the value of the next messages, don't lose the medal chain (DX Medal value is increased in increments of 10k up to 100k, each time you collect all DX Medals on the screen), you can't save it like in Garegga/Batrider if you miss one (the onscreen medals will still retain their value, but the next ones will be reset to 10k), understand how to activate the messages ( "quick shot" means that you destroyed an enemy/part before it could attack you, and sometimes you can seal enemy bullets like in Batrider/Garegga specifically for the purpose of getting a Quick Shot message). I'd recommend watching NER's replay on super-play.co.uk , or I can get a video of him playing, on nico (it's the same video, but divided in 3 parts.. quite hard for me to find, because there's quite a lot of RFJ videos)
