So we don't have to have walls of text on IRC or use Fightest's LP to talk serious stuff about this series.

Shadow Dragon is actually fairly good from a gamplay stand point. It's sad that it's plauged by the lack of good story or dialouge.

Shadow Dragon's art style killed the game for me more than anything else.  It just wasn't interesting to look at.

Edit: Also, if you are reading this post you are no longer allowed to play a Fire Emblem game without keeping everyone alive.

Amen.  Even the GBA sprites felt more alive and interesting.

Then it is a damn good thing I already do so.  I've only once ever finished a game with a dead unit, and that was HHM, because keeping Hawkeye alive just WASN'T WORTH IT.

dialouge.
:?

Shadow Dragon seems like it was designed with mediocre appeal in mind.  Even the cool new things LOOK mediocre.  As for the game itself, I can't say I'm fond of it.  After a while the enemies just become stacks of Lv. 20 Generals with Silver Lances; it feels generic (and probably for good reason!).

People don't compulsively do that anyway?

I got forced into a situation where I had to sacrifice Nolan on an FE10 challenge run but then I realized he took his Nihil with him.  So I had to restart :(

:V

It's not nearly as bad as perhaps me and SD make it out to be, but as a remake and part of the fire emblem series it's terrible. Most of the small things (The lack of resistance on a good deal of characters normally for one) that suck are all things that exist because they tried to make it familiar to the new system players, while staying true to the old game. Meaning you not only killed the point of them in the old system but kind of butchered the new system too!

Forging and Reclass while both kind of interesting, hold a special grudge in my heart. Forging is simple. I have a 15 might 30 crit -iron sword- sitting on my thief, because I shelled out 20k gold. This is a better weapon for regular use than the Falchion, a -legendary- weapon. While this is obviously due to my tendency to arena whore, it is ridiculous and silly. To be truthful this is probably the extent you'll get in a normal run because forging is limited to one weapon a chapter and -so damn expensive-. Which is kind of... What, toss me an option and then make me grind the hell out of ARENAHELL to actually use it?

Reclassing seems amazing- I've noted it can be useful for forcing gains in certain stats, but you'd -never- know this without the help of guides. You can't even really use the reclass option efficiently or without potentially fucking up without a guide with growth rates off hand. Casual players probably never even touch the option because they don't know what would work well. Which kills the point of the option.

Tldr; Shadow Dragon sucks.

Tldr; Shadow Dragon sucks.

This is wrong Shadow dragon is hilarious and has massive flaws those are what make it fun to play. (Like the 5+ General bosses who lack a ranged attack and A recruitable boss in a seize mission.)

Granted Reclassing was confusing.

Also H5.

The Generals are meant to be Merric-bait, I thought~
As for recruitable Tiki/Lorenz, I think it's more of a novelty than a "massive flaw".

copying from the Triumph thread so as not to continue derailing it

I use Marcus just for softening
thus getting him experience, and Boies is worth 15 a hit for Bartre with a hand axe

that's all I'm sayin'

Also, I've never had trouble killing off Kishuna before he gets away.  You just have to kill him in one turn, it's really not that tough.

I guess it's not so much tough as you have to go through the whole chapter just for a luck-based outcome.

Also I don't use Bartre. :V I'm not much for axes in this game.

During FE9, I half expected Tiamat to end up like Marcus, but she turned out to be a complete juggernaut in the endgame levels.

That's a rarity.  Titania's awesome in RD (arguably the best Paladin), but...she can really hurt for Strength in PoR.

Marcus isn't really much worse than Isadora in the long run, and Isadora isn't completely unusable - I just wouldn't recommend trying to solo the game with either of them.

Also, HH,OC! Bartre.

There's a reason she gets her own above-top tier, and it's not her enviable hairstyle.

Cut:  "Arguably" the best Paladin in FE10?  She beats Geoffrey, and Geoffrey beats all the other Paladins by a huge margin, so etc.

Shame that Titania starts off as a Jeigan, which basically guarantees I never use such a unit for the rest of the game. She does have awesome hair, though.

The thing is, PoR and RD have this thing where one character will be AWESOME in one of the games, but complete TRASH in the other, or at least "meh" level.

A pretty big example offender is Astrid, another is FE9 Mia being "meh" but FE10 Mia being "holy shit what the fuck" awesome.

I think the only people who WEREN'T affected were Brom, Nephenee, Ike, Titania, Geoffrey, Tauroneo, and Giffca.  (Personal Experience suggests that I should take Nephenee off the list because she likes getting low-growth levels in my runs.)

This sounds like prejudice.  Titania isn't exactly FE6 Marcus; if you put her away during the period between when you don't NEED her and when someone of her level would come in (say Ch. 13 or 14) the whole "experience drain" argument goes away.  Not coincidentally, Ch. 14 is the first time you get an Occult, and Sol just happens to be one of the ~three good mastery Skills in the game, etc.

I think the only people who WEREN'T affected were[...]Ike[...]
Ike was tremendously nerfed from PoR to RD (they upped his strength by 5 and his skill by 10 - big whoop - and in return took 10 from hp and magic, 5 from luck, and a whopping 20% from speed and 25% from resistance).  The fact that he's still one of the most ridiculous powerhouses in RD just emphasizes how STUPIDLY HIGH his growths were in PoR.

The experience drain argument always goes away if you wait to use your Jeigan; they simply tend to be some of the weaker units in the game.  That said, Titania's expected stats at level 20 are nothing to sniff at, but she takes her time getting there and there are certainly better choices.

I think the point Youmu was trying to make there was that Ike simply did not change in terms of character usefulness or quality. Despite being nerfed, he is STILL a very strong character in RD and thus is kind of exempt from the whole "AWESOME in one game, super trash/meh in the other" thing

This.
While RD Ike takes heaps of damage from magic attacks (and if you're unlucky like me he likes to die from Elthunder crits) he's still a walking god as you said.

Also, they took away his boyish charm in RD.  The man's arms look like a bunch of rocks glued together now :\

This is...

Wow. This could be incredibly awesome. I especially mention how they say 'Unit Type'. This means we -won't- just be a marth clone in the most important way, statistics. No doubt we'll have to deal with obvious set growths for each unit type, but this seems... -wow-. They're going to need to change things. This is -good-.

In before Marth shows up and steals the show anyway. (Lol falchion).

I note there are a lot of customizable options showing up in the remakes, I guess they're using remakes as experiment fodder, then?

That is pretty damn cool! I imagine this is being done at least partially because, if we see Marth again, people would realise too quickly that it's a remake of a remake of a remake remake. Remake.
