>The three of you keep moving down the slope, careful as the slick oil increases in thickness. However, you don't have to go much further to find something important: Ahead of you is what appears to be a minuscule "waterfall" of oil, with your tunnel opening behind it. You can go around the oil and keep moving on deeper, or head up to find the source of the oil above you.

> :3 You decide to try your best to detect any adult magic leeches later on, but chances are that if you can see one, it'll be too late. They have a tendency to hang on ceilings, but this tunnel has been too narrow so far.

>The magic leech would only have one parent, as they are a hermaphroditic species. (Had she interacted with your new pet, Trance could have told you this much sooner.) Genetic variation among leeches is usually brought about by mutations caused by the magic each leech absorbs in its lifetime.

> :V You try to listen for anything out of the ordinary. For a little while, something seems wrong... And after a second, you've got it. Had you not tried to listen, you probably would not have noticed that there is virtually no noise here at all.

> You shudder a bit at Jan's remark. All this oil definitely isn't right. Trance's remark doesn't really help matters... You go ahead and tell her that leech oil has to be extracted from within the adult's body, usually by means of wounding a leech and gathering what's been left behind, or using a pump-syringe system on a sedated sample. It's very hard to come by, normally speaking.
>You try your best, but you feel even less at ease than before. Even Jan seems put off by it. "Hey... Stop that..."

:3 :V: Start to advance together in a circle, with each of you facing outward.

>Sana and Trance fly up to join Jana, and the three of you begin to hover along the tunnel. Jana and Trance each face a diagonal-rear, weapons at the ready, leaving Sana with the torch facing the front.
>As you advance, the leech on Sana's head begins to coo again. To the surprise of all three of you, a response is heard, and a single new leech drops from the ceiling and onto the oil below. As the two coo in harmony, you start hearing more and more responses, and leeches start dropping from above. A few are trying to get closer, but something is holding them back.

>You all check the ceiling. Thankfully, it's low enough that Sana's torch light illuminates it. The leeches seem to actually be burying out of the tunnel roof... At the same time, you can breathe a sigh of relief, since an adult leech would likely collapse a whole section of the cave if it were to try the same thing.

>As the fire spreads to the source of the oil, a large explosion rocks the entire cave system. Arashi, triangles, and MJP are sent sprawling by the concussion wave of flames that erupts from the mouth of the cave. They suffer severe burns, but survive.
>The cave system itself collapses after the explosion. While whatever threats within the cave have been neutralized, the entire subterranean ecosystem has also been destroyed. The magic stream that runs beneath the cave is made inaccessible for decades until crews of fairies and magicians can clear the blockage... Rather, it would be, if whatever you were meant to stop didn't resurface and begin a war that threatened to destroy the land of Ijiyatsu.
>The three of your names were never released to the public, in a move planned by Solais to save face for the goddess, and your support team is paid off to keep quiet during their recovery. As the war rages through the world, the citizens of Ijiyatsu demand to know who was responsible for the first domino to fall.

They are fairly heavy, and they can body slam from a ceiling. They're also very flexible, and can stretch their necks out and catch you off-guard from the ground or from above." You feel your right hand quivering.

> :V As you keep moving, you can now hear something, but the bunches of leeches moving with you seem to be drowning it out. You're not sure what you could do to get them to quiet down, but Sana's torch would likely be what's bugging them.
