> Bow.
> "Thank you for your kindness."
>Kanako nods in recognition of your bow.
>"You are welcome, Reisen."
>"Well, it's not like I've been very circumspect about my acquisition of these gems, so it's possible someone who has something against me could have been after the last one and came to you while I was underground. But yeah, the apparition would indeed be another seeker."
>Go to Sanae and follow Kanako's directions.
>"That may be so," she says. "But there are only two active ones we know of. It is wise to be cautious of others."
>You leave Kanako, and return to Sanae. You ask her about the basement. "Oh, she told you about that?" says Sanae. "Well, I suppose it's alright if she said it. Come with me."
>She leads you into the shrine, and down a side hallway. Soon she opens a door, leading down a flight of stairs into a darkened. She starts to fumble with lighting a candle, but you decide to save her a little time and let the blue gem light the way.
>Desending down, you find the basement is full of all sorts of junk you cannot identify, boxes with glass fronts, a kotatsu with a little cord extending from it, boxes covered with slots that remind you vaguely of the heaters used on the moon. Sanae doesn't seem to pay it any mind, as she makes her way toward a pile of spare futons and moves then aside, revealing a trap door in the floor, bearing a large and formidable-looking padlock. She produces a key ring and unlocks it.
>Looking down, you can see a darkened hole. "You'll have to hover down it," says Sanae, "It's too deep for the ladder to get down there."
