> "I'd like to speak to Patchouli please."
> Make our way to the library.
> Explain the recent chain of events to Patchouli and ask about her research.
>"Have fun," says Meiling as she opens the gate for you.
>You make your way to the library. The Foyer is now very different, filled with numerous prints and ink paintings, as well as a couple of beautifully decorated folding screens. A few wooden statues of eastern-style guardian figures dominate the corners, and a few noh masks can be seen here and there.
>You enter the library, and find Patchouli pouring over some tome, as per usual. She looks up at you and says, "I see you've succeeded, good job."
>Patchouli listens as you recount a Good Parts version of your search for the purple gem. As you mention Maya's name, she says, "Maya Nawajima, daughter of Iria Nawajima. Good." She then takes one book from her stack and sets it aside.
>Once you finish, she says, "I've had some successes, I think. Firstly, I've not heard any references whatsoever to Iria having to deal with any sort of ghost or spirit. All records indicate she dealt with youkai of various kinds. Secondly, I have been able to find references to a long sojourn that Maya made to various corners of Gensokyo. She returned to tell the humans that there were only terrible things out there. I expect it was a cover story. Unfortunately, I've not been able to really confirm she's been to Youkai Mountain, but there is record of some human being there in about that era, which is remarkable of itself. Unfortunately, I've seen no mention of any kind of gem. But, I imagine this wouldn't be widely known, given Maya's emphasis on secrecy. You would be best served asking people there about such events, keeping in mind that Ran seems to have go through all of the easy ones.
>"Furthermore, I've found a bit about the gems themselves, if you're interested."
