I always play on 4 speed
why would you play on anything slower
too much speed change between shmups? yeah, it's not like you ram everything, but I still prefer 2.

Still, what the hell is up with esprade st5? On my last attempt, I've managed to no death until st4 boss, then st5 ate all my lives.

I only really mentioned Warning Forever as an example, since it's a doujin that isn't a Touhou/Cave clone (like, y'know, 99% of most doujins), but that works too.

And I'll also nominate Image Fight I guess.

I wasn't serious with my suggestions either. :V

But if doujin games are allowed, then the x.x games are good choices--Eden's Aegis and BWR1.02.

What is the general criteria a danmaku shooter must have to be considered a cave clone exactly? just curious.

Space Phallus.
Or the original gunbird, so I have an excuse to play it :V

Early-era Psikyo games are really boring and have assloads of input lag.

I sincerely hope that 1945 or GB doesn't get picked. :(

3cc on BWR's TLB in Training with Autoguard on. I really suck at this fight. No way I'd ever pull a 1cc of the fight. Maybe a 2cc eventually.

Edit: Just 2cc'd the boss. I wonder how long it'd take to repeat that. My first 3 lives got to to near the end of the third phase that time.

i've been playing the darius franchise lately and been wondering why there hasn't been a touhou game (fan or otherwise) based off it yet.

Pretty much the same thoughts here, though I was running on fumes by the time I hit stage 5 (also missed the "secret" 1up on stage 4). Goddamn that annoying tank on the left which takes forever to kill while the right side slowly becomes a mess. Fortunately after you get rid of it the rest of the stage goes back to being quite manageable, and the 5.a boss is a joke.

Also, why is the mall tank so much harder than the chopper or the high school boss at stage 3?

Um, it's not, though the last phase can be tricky.  I've always found the assassin to be the hardest stage 3 boss. :V

Okay. Now I want to see Touhou girls transformed into giant mechanical fish-themed battleships. That would be awesome.

X-Multiply, because I feel like a horizontal game for some reason.

EDIT: OH MY GOD I JUST GOOGLED THAT GAME AND SAW SOME SCREENSHOTS

I REMEMBER I USED TO PLAY THIS (very badly) WHEN I WAS LIKE 10

HOLY SHIT

Ruling out the Psikyo games because I play those enough, and the Cave clones because that kinda defeats the purpose.  That said, fuck, I can't decide at all.  brb running through random number generator

EDIT:  'kay, Warning Forever it is.  What a coincidence...

edit2:  Looking at it again, we've actually got a fairly large amount of choices.  I hope enough people vote that we have more than just 1 or 2 votes each.

Eden's Aegis, because it's the only game on that list that I've put any considerable time into. :V

@Aisha: The whole point is to introduce yourself to new games!

If I don't get a game that has more votes than any other game, someone will have to be a tiebreaker. I'll likely just post the list on IRC and tell someone to pick a name.

Just gave Eden's Aegis a try. Way too much slowdown, way too clippy.

I'll give it some thought and post tomorrow morning with my vote.

You need to go into the config menu and turn Wait off to get rid of the slowdown.

Here's a full-character unlock.

I went into X-Multiply thinking, 'Oh, but I only found it hard because I was 10 and terrible at shmups!'

An hour later, I haven't cleared the game yet. It is as hard as I remember if not harder. Holy crap. @_@
Let's fight.

Shitloads of bullets (obviously), number spam on the screen when something gets destroyed, and the whole "let's slow the game down when bullet count reaches a certain amount".
Also, X-Multiply.

YouTube - Website - Blog - Ask me anything
You can do anything you set your mind to, but only if there's slowdown.

Don't forget conveniently speeding up at the best possible time

to kill you.

Don't forget lots of items. 3 or fewer extends, with at least one of them being a secret one. And ridiculously hard TLBs.

I'd think the most important criteria for would be to have game mechanics influenced by/taken from Cave games.  Like how BWR is influenced by Ketsui, Eden's Aegis/Stellavanity is ESPGaluda, Patriot Dark is DDP, etc.

I'll have to give X-Multiply a shot. Videos of it give me awesome Giger/R-Type/Galshell vibes. What's the scoring system like?

Scoring system?

SCORING SYSTEM?

I've just burned through more than 30 continues and I'm still at the stage 5 boss. Out of seven levels. WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT SCORING SYSTEMS WHEN ALL YOU DO IS DIE
