Y'know you'd think this game would be easier for having like a hundred times fewer bullets on screen than hardcore bullet hell shmups :P
That's because all the bullets in bullet hell shmups have midget sized hitboxes. Like your plane.

I motion that we do a Hentai Shmup week.
There was an erring suggestion of me to find every way to vote against Steam Hearts in the first shmup nominations. Honestly.

Of course, that only applies to the PC-98 one. ...WHY DO I KNOW THAT

X-multiply doesn't have spell practice, so it is automatically unfair and badly designed.

And next week is going to be a Change Air Blade tourney, I already decided.

How about a general kusoge shmup week?  :V

Actually I was thinking of starting actual 'theme' weeks starting next week.

Royal Edoma Engine all the way. I want to see everyone go apeshit over isometric danmaku. :V Although I do like the game, personally.

I've had super bad luck with my 360s. But it doesn't seem that anyone else has ever had it as bad as me out of everyone I've talked to about it.

I dunno why you'd spend extra to get a J360, hori stick, Futari, ESPGaluda II, and DeathSmiles when all 3 of those games will be playable on a US 360 later this year.
tbh I work at Best Buy and ever since Microsoft switched to the Jasper cores we've recieved less complaints about xboxes dieing randomly. Usually it's the disc drive that messes up now rather than a RRoD. Then again if it's past the 30 days we can't do anything about it so I don't hear all the stories.

Also you spend extra for the J360 because you want to play Dream C Club duh. Can't play that with a US360. Or IdolM@ster

And I know I'm new around here so you can take my recommendation with a grain of salt. But I want to do the Area 88 for Arcade one of these weeks. I lived on the SNES port as a child and the arcade is most certainly better

The red weapon is god-tier for every stage except Stage 5, in which case, you need Blue for the whole "kill the red blob thingies to clear a path" part. :|

Stage 5 is a nightmare. I can make it through with the red wavy lasers, but it's a real bitch especially just before the acid part, where you have to kill the red blobs to drop a few sets of three (or four?) crystal pillars into pits in order to create a path. I usually run out of room to align my options in front of or behind me to create a concentrated shot so I can clear the red things quickly enough. I end up getting crushed by the scrolling screen.

I like that the boss is really simple though--you don't even have to move to dodge its shots. :V

Though this is about Touhou, I feel it belongs in this thread for some reason.

Today I was in a shmup slump/spike.. It was really strange. I played crimzon clover, was going to no miss both stage 1 and 2 (I never no miss stage 2 yet, blame the input lag I ugess), but had to pause for like an hour near the end of hte boss. Once I get back, I die, beat the boss, and died alot on stage 3. Then I restart, and it was just terrible.

So I play something else (non shmup)...Wasn't enjoying myself, I REALLY felt like playing some shmups. So I loaded up MoF. Bear in mind that I have only 1cc'd MoF on hard twice, and that's because I just haven't played it much. I've been busy with lunatics on eosd, pcb, and then other shmups for awhile, but I felt like MoF.. Couldn't beat stage 1 without a stupid bomb/death...after like 20 tries.. So I try SA (much harder than MoF for me). 1cc it with like 6 lives left over. I try the extra stage (only beat that once..barely). Beat it on my first try.

go back to MoF *rolled*.

Seriously. wtf... Anybody else have a "selective game" shmup slump? Is that normal? It's quite infuriating. Still though I'm pleased I beat the extra stage in SA when I only beat it once, and haven't played it at all for like half a year =\.

I've yet to discover the gimmick to the fourth boss :V

You find actual confirmation? or you just buying it out of blind faith in Kotaku's Journalism ethics? Either way you did the right thing  ;)

The NCSX site used Kotaku's blog as confirmation, but that's enough for me, if online stores are taking it as truth. If anything, it's peace of mind. :P

Here's the NCSX page for it.

Crimzon Clover is just amazing. I never knew that numbers and point items alone could create lag. Sure, it's Soft Slow, but still. Also, I don't think any shmup has destroyed me on the first stage more than CC's Unlimited Mode.
Yup, still lurking.

I still suspect ultimate mode hasn't even be properly balanced to be possible. Even if it is, it's not my idea of fun. NOT because it's hard. It's because it stops beeing about good pioleting and danmaku dodging, and more about skillfully destroying certain enemies at certain times to clear bullets, etc, etc. I just don't enjoy that style of play.

I do enjoy the game minus the input lag as a whole though. I DO hope that there will be a difficulty setting in BETWEEN normal and unlimited though. The jump is beyond Touhou easy to lunatic as it stands.

How do you get screenshots off MAME?

There's actually a patch that does that for Mame32, and I'm using it right now! I don't remember where it is, though. Ask Khoa, I'm pretty sure he's the one who told me about it.

If you know how to make 0.136 play any CAVE rom that is not Progear, I'm all ears. The "solution" offered in the official bug report forum not only doesn't solve anything but also disses whomever reported it by saying it is "not a bug". Because apparently - and I'm not joking here - breaking compatibility between releases is a feature.

edit: on the good side that "motivated" me to try Progear again and realize it's actually not completely impossible.

Solution: Use Mame32 Plus! 0.99/WolfMAME. It plays everything I have in my library without a problem, and trust me, that's quite a bit. Normally I'd recommend Mame32 0.103u3, but it's not very savestate/inp friendly, it seems. The previously-mentioned version is much more user-friendly in that aspect.
