Because EVERY choice is ours, IMO. The person running the game gives us the setting, and we run about in it. CYOAs generally force you between 2 or 3 choices (as far as I know), and static fiction, quite frankly, isn't interactive. So, it's a blend of telling a story and playing an interactive game that comes off beautifully. It's mostly a matter of what you are looking for, IMO. |

It's having to consider each action against a broader plan or lack of plan, and seeing surprising things happen that you didn't anticipate. CYOA is pretty much just railroading in comparison, and I don't get to see the things nearly so many things people come up with. |
