Also, Eirin Yagokoro/Acidus did a dramatic reading of the re-write, which you can listen to here. |
| Alfred F. Jones:
Ugh. Okay, this is going to be hard to hear, but really, Ammy, you shouldn't have edited your fic just because of reader response. I really hate the idea of changing what you write just because so and so doesn't like how character X was portrayed. People can hate your fic all they want, but if that's what you wanted to write, then the readers are just going to have to deal with it. At least that's how I see it. In your favor, though, the new version is still quite good. But I really don't like the idea of compromising artistic integrity just because the readers didn't like it. |
| Tengukami:
But I agreed with the criticism. Part of growing as a writer is listening to negative criticism, and deciding whether or not it's valid. In this case, apart from the name-calling, I thought the criticism was valid. So I changed the piece accordingly. |
| Alfred F. Jones:
Fair enough, I just wanted to know your motives for it. Changing a story because of outside pressure leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but not on the grounds of legit criticism. |
| Tengukami:
Yeah, that's pretty much it. My general approach to fan fiction is that I like the challenge of creating a new story about the Gensokyans within the confines of their personalities and back stories. It's like expanding their world a little bit more. I've seen great material that completely turns Gensokyo on its head, such as Serp's piece, and that's also a perfectly valid approach. I just tend to enjoy the challenge of working within the framework, trying to create something new, fresh and entertaining inside that boundary. |
