I was called a cheater because of that. :V

Putting your save files in a backup is the blatant cheating. Sometimes the game does the ragequit for you in the form of a crash.

Wheeeeeeee. Point out mistakes / fixes in item descriptions once you see them (ignore mistranslations at this point, because it was more or less a half-assed attempt from skimming; anything that rang bells I did a bit more research on and got a proper name out where possible *coughspellcardscough*). Read the .txt document first, as you might not have the specified program to open the file.

Still pretty messy. I personally blame text string names.

Now! Back to hoarding Change Gaps and putting useless items in it like there's no tomorrow for the ridiculously small chance of pulling out a rare item. I love that new command that gets unlocked when you beat the dungeon the first time  <3

Looks like it can be abused, but in reality, the Bosses seem to spike up in difficulty ridiculously so it's fair game  :V

Yay! Thanks, you're great, Baity.

EDIT: Oh hey, I can add a translation for a Spellcard:

「ベルリナー・マウアー」 - 「Berliner Mauer」 (Berlin Wall). Nice name for a wall-collapsing card  :V

Others I can take a guess:

「アンキャニーシャイン」 - 「Uncanny Shine」 ?

「プラネット・ズン」 - 「Planet Zun」 ?

As for weapon effects, Udonge's ears and the Judgement Stick have some extra-damage against certain enemies as well, it's in the item description. I'll try to translate it and post it here.

Someone want to test what happens when you stay on a floor too long? I was abusing the Happiness (exp per step) pendant and got UstuhoCautions when I spent around 1000 turns in the area.

Okuu makes you go boom at 1k turns exactly. Warnings are at 900 and 950.

I left a Bonus Damage category.
Though I should probably expand on it a bit so it makes a bit more sense :V

And adding to translation, notes, etc.

Oops, didn't see it. >_<

So...extra damage against anything with ears? Wouldn't that be like, every eemy in the game except for Myon?

Ears as in, Reisen, Chen, etc.
Don't know why the category itself is so... obscure. The Kanji "耳" literally means "ear" so  :V

Also Synthesis also carries over enchantments. Nifty.

Ah, so animal ears it is then. Makes sense.

Btw, could you tella bit more about synthesis? I haven't seen it in the game yet, but it sounds like a useful and interesting feature.

Let's see if I can do this succinctly! First rule of easy summarizing is... dot points. Yay! Next, would be to put the answers down in distinct categories, so... if I do this... here we go. It's perfect(o)!

Refer to the .txt document which should be available for download. Reason is I'm paraphrasing key points from the wiki, which was in the spoiler. Guess you could say that it's supposed to be part of the experience (as is typical of a Rogue-Like  :V)

It's a quick summary.
EDIT: And I forgot to proofread and found a mistake already. Oh well, it was only a grammatical error  :3

And more changes to the current list; it turns out that I forgot some very important details. Will be upping the new spreadsheet once I get a few more things out of the way.

And more Change Gap spamming, this time I got a Gap to use as a shield~ I wonder how many more I need to go through for the weapon...

And forgot a few things.

Items that cannot have their Abilities transferred are:
Suika's Gourd (Calabash), (??) Scarlet Sword, センジュナマコ (this item doesn't come from the first dungeon IIRC).
I think that's it. I believe I forgot to mark the latter two as such, so take care until the first revision of the items.

Also, there's a fatal bug regarding throwing items on the floor, take care if you're doing this; it seems to be occurring when throwing gaps from the ground into a wall though. Fortunately I didn't do this twice fearing losing my equipment on hand.

And finally, I'm getting curious thinking what would happen if I synthesize (a) Hakurei Amulet with "謹製・みがわり人形" (Resurrection; 1 Charge, breaks upon use), then killing myself with the former amulet equipped. Would the Hakurei Amulet disappear as well? I'll be testing this if somebody doesn't beat me to it once I get a spare out of a Gap.

EDIT: Changing "Youkai" to something else. Maybe. "妖" is... uhh... hard to put into one category. Especially considering the enemies the game puts under this type.

v2! I updated most of the names, put a few clarifications into descriptions. This one also contains the Synthesis notes with it (so I basically merged the other two into this one). If you don't want it, you can just :dw don't open the .txt document.

I'm still uncomfortable with "Youkai" being a group, seeing as it's a pretty broad group to begin with. Well, it might be because of my extreme bias from the Kanji saying "You". Which could be Youkai ("monster"), Yousei ("fairy"), Youma , You(ry.

Also, taking suggestions as to what to add to the list. There's a lot on the wiki that can be used (e.g. Monster Groups, Shop Lists*, etc.)

Some names have still been left untranslated at this point. For good reason; I can't make out what the hell it's saying in essence.

Actually, I believe I'll do the Shop Lists next.

*VERY inaccurate translation, but you get what I mean

Also, RAGEquit from walking into a Vault with Aya Lv2 in sight, and a Youmu Lv3 blocking my exit. 20F.

If you could make a list of Trap types/effects, that would be pretty nice. Not like one doesn't see what they do after walking into them, but...

Cirno attacked me and did something to one of my items (Meiling's Hat). The text is blue now and the icon changed. What does it mean?

I thought it was ability seal but it's still active. Did she freeze my armor and will it melt eventually?

EDIT : Wearing "Frog and Snake Hair Ornaments" will sometimes give you back the item you just used. I don't know if it can recycle every item, but I've had it happen with Water and a Distance Tag.

It thaws eventually.

Alright, it just means that you can't use the item for a while. If it's an equipped item, the item stays equipped. But when you unequip it, you can't re-equip it because it's frozen.

EDIT : Wearing "Frog and Snake Hair Ornaments" will sometimes give you back the item you just used. I don't know if it can recycle every item, but I've had it happen with Water and a Distance Tag.
Noted.

Playing more of the Second Dungeon so I know what more of the items do; changing a few descriptions here and there. Also:

Delicious.

EDIT: Attachments.

EDIT 2: Wherein I make a vault (Spell Card store generated) and get killed once. Fortunately, I had items prepared for that.

Best enemy ever. Seriously.

EDIT 3: And First Dungeon cleared a 3rd time. Damn that was a weird battle. Oh, and more notes taken on certain items thanks to experimentation.

Whelp, I lost a:
Tengu Map
+9 Rock/Meiling/Marisa/Aki Hat
+5 Roukanken/YamaStick/ThirdArm/SuikaGourd(this was the base)/ReisenEars

because Rinnosuke Trap took away mah Heal Gap, which then lead to "No more heals at Yukari lol".

V3. Expect a V3.5 if I can get my hands on a certain Amulet to test what it does. If not, expect to wait a long time for V4.

Contains all the previous files in it as well. Added this and that to the item "database". Some things aren't that clear to me still and / or don't make sense. Some items have been left in their romanized form for "consistency".

Okay, that's the final straw, I think I'll play it again.
Hook, line and sinker.

If it's an equipped item, the item stays equipped (when frozen by Cirno).
Just pointing out that this is technically a bug according to the wiki. It doesn't affect gameplay that much though.

Where's the best place to watch out for an English patch of this? Not really familiar with the process. Tried it out for a bit but it doesn't seem worth it at all without the ability to read moonrunes.

Best places? That varies actually. Sometimes, projects start here (normally in this sub-forum), other times they start on gensokyo.org, or pooshlmer, etc.
AFAIK we're all connected one way or another, so the news spreads around quickly most of the time.

The patch-making varies a bit as well, but it goes a little something like this:
  • Interest rises (this is an important step to the patching process; people don't want to spend time on something that nobody really cares about)
  • Some person codes up a data unpacker-repacker (or uses an existing one) and / or various people start translating the text; may happen simultaneously
  • Quality Control / Testing / Release / etc.

You don't need a lot of moonrune-reading ability to play this  :V
Though, it does help to have the sheet out at times. The only reason why that sheet exists is because I don't have the tools to make a patch. That, and I'm normally busy keeping my skill up (and improving it) in Touhou and work.

Also, waiting until April.

about sea cucumber equipment
« Reply #87 on: May 02, 2010, 10:18:39 AM »
Well I found both items in the 99 floor underground hakurei dungeon, (specifically floor 84), I THINK the shield and weapon only appear on rooms filled with a special kind of enemy type (the one that kinda looks like a sea cucumber girl), you know, the kind of room wherein you enter it and the background music changes.

The battle sea cucumber has a low chance of transforming enemies into sea cucumber girls, who have 2 HP and will yield 705exp when killed.

The sea cucumber shield has a low chance of having Reimu teleport to a random location on the floor upon being hit by the enemy...like a ninja Reimu will leave a cucumber potion, don't know the effects of drinking it or throwing it to the enemy.

Both items have a base atk/def of 10 which make them awesome for synthesis, my battle sea cucumber is +99 while my sea cucumber shield is +84.

Just beat Super Sanae with these babies as my equipment.

Oh and upon climbing the stairs on floor 99 of the underground Hakurei dungeon, apparently Reimu gets a glimpse of the real world and you get a conversation scene with Akyu.
