PoFV netplay

I want to play PoFV with my friend.
So I read the guide on touhou wiki but it still didn't work.
First we patched to the same version.
Then we placed eachothers IP's in that IP.txt file and made sure we both used the same version (the japanese one instead of the english one) and we saw the message flash as described but it wouldn't connect.

Is there a better guide somewhere or could some1 explain it? thanks!

Did you open up the port on your router?  If its not open you cant connect.  The default is 17723, least thats whats in mine.

Chose that in Adonis.
You're saying I have to go to my router and open that port there? I'll give it a try then
