No music in Shoot the Bullet
« on: October 14, 2009, 11:57:49 PM »
Installed StB from the game CD, game works fine....except that there is absolutely no music.  Sound effects are all present, but the music does not play.  I'm running the most recent update (actually, that's what came on the CD, but I digress).  BGM names display at the start of rounds, and the volume control does go up and down, but no music plays.  Not even the Music Room has music playing (though the track names are there).

Running Windows XP.  Not certain of the hardware (it's an HP), but I run everything save UNL at a continuous 60FPS (UNL lags just a tiny bit).

Unrelated issue: the .rar for the english patch loads as text.  I'm using Safari - is it just a browser issue, or is this common?

Do you have a thbgm.dat in the game's directory? (I'm assuming that the sound effects are kept elsewhere.) If not, try copying it directly off the CD and putting it there.

If it's opening the .rar files as text files, you probably don't have a rar extractor installed.  You can get one from here.  Make sure you associate the correct files you want this to open (Tools > Options > System tab > Select all;  this'll associate everything to 7zip).

See if that'll get .rar files opening correctly, and if so re-extract your game files completely.

I didn't, but when I copied the thbgm.dat file over, it still didn't solve the problem.  This is very odd.

The STB English patch is the only .rar I've tried to download recently that's done this - the PoFV and SWR translations went straight to downloading as .rars, as did several others.  I just tried redownloading the PoFV patch for confirmation and still got an actual .rar, rather than a wall of gibberish.  I tried using "save linked file" and forcing .rar with StB's patch, but that still didn't let 7-Zip touch it.

...maybe I should just throw up my hands and get someone else to dl it and send it to me via IM or a USB drive?
