Woooow, the new daily log in bonuses are... excessively stingy. And having to play arena every day for bonuses is a drag. I'm not impressed.

I like playing Arena, so it doesn't bother me. And aren't thete supposed to be additional arena quests on top of this? Or are those the rewards for the arena quests?

Also for what it's worth keep in mind that we all have a ton of stones incoming as a reward for the voting gauntlet.
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.

Wow, holy shit, yeah. Having a dancer makes a HUGE difference, even a brutally underdeveloped 3* one. I haven't cracked the code yet on how to actually beat it, but I totally feel like I have a fighting chance all the sudden. Huh.
I might use Azura for this if this keeps up...
My danmakucopter goes pew pew pew!

YAAY!

Cleared with the above team.

So the first many times I ran this it was oppressive and horrible, but once I threw Olivia on there it became a blast. I spent TONS of stamina potions and it took me a bunch of tries, but I genuinely had fun figuring out the puzzle after a while.

This was my first time using a dancer today and holy shit it's like playing on easy mode.

There's a reason why Azura is S+ tier. She's super, super useful on a level that only she and Olivia can approach.

A Blazing Sword-themed banner is coming in hot.
Lucius is a staff user, rip.
New daily arena quests will hopefully be a source of orbs...if it becomes the one-orb-a-week trickle then that's really disappointing.

As for long-term content, they should just implement an infinitely scaling, infinitely tall Tower of Valni with a leaderboard and rewards for clearing certain levels or something.

I've said over and over that I think Azura is hands-down the best character in Fates, and tge people who have her in like B-tier are fools. And she's *even better* in Heroes. She's definitely my number one want.

That said, I think I owe Olivia an upgrade from 3* to 5*.

And Azura actually has respectable offensive stats, unlike poor Olivia.  With any luck I can get Ninian or Azura on the next banner.

Hopefully Lucius and Priscilla have something to set them apart from the existing healers.  Although I get a fair amount of use out of Lissa (because she's great), characters like Linde tend to hold the fort as a sub-healer just fine.  Guess we'll find out how good they are tomorrow.

As a spot of good news, you'll still be able to get daily orbs from the daily quests, so the rate of orb collection won't go down.

That said, I think I owe Olivia an upgrade from 3* to 5*.

I took Olivia to 4*, but I can't bring myself to 5* her.  The only real advantage you get is Silver Sword+, and ideally you're never going to have her in combat anyway.  4* is worth it due to Hone Atk 3, though.

Yeah, 5* might not be worth it, but she'll likely be taking up the red slot on my team so I kind of feel like the added overall stats may come in handy. We'll see. Definitely at least 4*. Although FCorrin already has Hone Attack 3 on my team...

Ah, but who is honing fcorrin's attack? :V

commandercool

FCorrin basically hones her own attack, what with her Seal Resist and all. She's kind of a monster. Can't wait to give her Svallin Shield, if the game will let me.

More attack certainly might be nice though. She synergizes well with a dancer in general. Lets her exploit the debuffs she spreads harder, or spread them farther.

This is what happened: (try to follow along, I promise it's worth it) (visual aid, unrelated screencap)

I wanted to emulate the FRobin method. It didn't work, because Effie's too strong so she hits the red cav into range where the armor knight can warp next to it, and then I can't kill it while it KO's Effie. I tried many things. Among them, I found out I have no healer with the balm that raises defense, and other really specific things. What ended up working:

1) Switching the Steel Lance for an Iron Lance, so Effie's first retaliation leaves the cav with +50% health
2) Hitting the armor knight with FRobin as usual (+ dance to get her out of harm's way)
2) Attacking the cav with Effie after the first retaliation, leaving it with 3HP for enemy phase
3) On enemy phase, the ninjas attack first, then the cav commits sudoko on Effie (thank god the ninjas attack first!!!)
4) Advance Effie to the right, hitting one of the ninjas (the ninja is standing where the 90 degree turn is, and the armor knight is above it)
5) Hit the armor knight with FRobin again (down to 3HP as well)
6) The crux. Only one of the ninjas can hit Effie. I think this is what ended up happening: the lower ninja broke the wall under the ninja in the turn, who moved where the wall was, hit Effie, and then allowed the armor knight to warp to below Effie (to the left of the injured ninja, above the lower ninja, for perspective). The dude hits Effie and leaves her with 1HP.  :colbert:
7) I had to improvise on this turn but holy shit holy shit. LISSA MOVES IN. Kills the armor knight by standing to the left of Effie, then the magic: Olivia dances above Lissa, and she's out of reach. Lissa Rehabilitates Effie to full, then Effie SMITES Lissa out of harm's way. Holy shit holy shit holy shit
8) The ninjas are stuck facing Effie and there's nothing they can do

10 stamina potions and most of my gems are gone. I also had to promote Olivia to 4* because I forgot to teach her Hone Attack, and you need that to one-round Ursula..

Worth it.

There are a few really interesting things about these hero challenge things.

-They're surprisingly fun once you get in the groove for being oppressive tanking checks. If it looks like you have a glimmer of hope of beating the ridiculous odds then suddenly spamming stamina potions to rapid-fire new strategies is a blast.

-Ursula is actually really good. I love her character design and she's a totally viable unit, unlike Narcian or probably FRobin. Probably not the best blue tome user, but very usable, even without a 5* upgrade.

-The last two have both forced me to use units I never use otherwise. This one was Sheena, and the last one was Jakob. This is both good and bad. On one hand it kind of requires you to have a large variety of characters to pick from to have a fighting chance. On the other hand, it's great that you can't steamroll everything with your PVP team. And it is nice that the game leaves these up long enough that you can powerlevel a couple of things to try out different strategies.

-I can't really fathom how they could make these progressively harder and yet still be fair. I guess something of this difficulty but just remixed would be pretty reasonable, if it wants you to use different units and slightly different tactics. Or introducing scenarios like defending a throne or enemy reinforcements could help too I guess. But man, they really pull out ALL the stops on giving the enemy handicaps. Outnumbering you, giving them bullshit abilities, ridiculous stats, AND having their supers fully charged out of the box.

-I kind of wish the game would just let you use continues on these, but gave some kind of incentive not to. They're basically completely worthless as-is except for the one-time clears of the last couple of lunatic chapters if you need them. It'd be nice if you could power through these stages with continues if you're not feeling up to puzzling out a solution, but you got some kind of reward (maybe a small cosmetic improvement for the prize unit like a little banner on their stats screen or something, or a few stones). Then again I probably wouldn't have taken the time to solve this legit if I didn't have to, and I did ultimately really enjoy it.

I wonder if promotions will ever be a thing. That'd be a nice extra dimension of the game.

How do you envision that working? I'm kind of unclear on how that could be implemented since almost all units are already in their second-tier classes.

Not Donnel though... :D

I'm torn on that, yeah. On one hand I like the chibimaps because they give Heroes its own identity (not to mention smoothing out the UI), but on the other hand they're really limiting.

So, 200 feathers and 1 orb a day from arena quests it looks like. Oh, and new offense score tier for arena, which is ~1000 extra feathers weekly. So feather income is basically doubled, cool.

Tempted to roll for Ninian but seeing Matsuri's roll is an effective deterrent. :V

-Five rolls=mostly 3* dupes, but with a 4* Ogma I didn't have this time.

No, that's cool. Well over a hundred stones since my last 5* is totally fine. It's not like I wanted new toys to play with or anything... Why would I? Why would that be a good thing to have in a video game..? At least the increased feather rate means I can make my own fun I guess...
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.

MatsuriSakuragi

The 'increased' feather rate is still close to fucking nothing. They're artificially extending the game by making unit rank-ups a massive grind without producing any actual worthwhile content.

Honestly I kind of just want to drop this game because the way they're running it is reminiscent of early PAD and that's a very bad thing

enemies with unlimited move range are a whole different story

commandercool

The teleportation abilities in Heroes give large movement ranges, but they're far from unlimited given that they're very conditional. I'll take that any day over enemies who can pick your characters up and move them into killboxes.
