The patch installer is designed to operate on copies of your PoFV files, so you could even set your exe and dat file to be read-only if you were worried, and you'd still be fine. I tried to make it as un-destructive as possible.

I was just playing PoFV this morning and thinking about how great it's going to be when I can actually read the dialogue.
