My roommate's been sending me PoGo memes all morning. I still stand by Team Mystic because Articuno is so much better than Garbage Chicken, but goddamn, Candela is so much cooler-looking than Blanche...
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.

Niantic came up with an excuse for this update.

https://www.facebook.com/PokemonGO/posts/940141879465704

It sounds like they plan to bring steps back at some, unknown point.
And it sounds like they're calling Pokevision a problem. Maybe.
And Brazil is in line for releases.

Honestly communication is good even if it's late and this is basically what we wanted to hear, so...  Good step I guess? I'm choosing to take this as a good sign.

Noticed also that pokemon are jumping more or 'fighting back'. But the 'break out' chance from balls have dramatically increased. Even for stupid low CP weedles/pidgeys.

That's not an excuse, that's a non-answer and marketing speech.

And according to some Ingress players, we better get used to it.

Years of sniffing bullshit in mafia games have trained me for this moment.

"The [tracker], although enjoyed by many, was also confusing and did not meet our underlying product goals."
Yeah, no, it wasn't confusing at all.

"If you haven?t heard us Tweeting much it?s because we?ve been heads down working on the game."
Rolling out a tweet or two is waaay easier than fixing server bugs.

Like, this kind of stuff bugs me at surface level, but what actually gets me is the tracker. It's such a core function of the game and probably something the devs had in mind since early planning stages, so how does it suddenly not meet their product goals? Screw that noise. My friends and I think they're trying to make Pokemon collecting harder and expand the game length for the whales.

Being periodically told "There's a rare Pokemon really close but you'll never find it in time, fucker!" is not particularly fun. I know that's a problem regardless of tracking, but it's fundamental game design that you're not supposed to make players feel bad as a core part of your game. It would probably be really exciting the one time I might stumble into that Poliwhirl or Exeggutor with no tracking but THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED SO HOW WOULD I KNOW?

I never really found the tracker particular helpful to be honest.

I've been having a pretty good time of this. In particular where gyms are concerned. The gym near my home (like a block away) is controlled by my team, Mystic. The other day I went up there and trained it up from a 6 to a 7 and popped a 900+ CP Hypno in there. Been through two 21-hour cycles now, occasionally re-visiting the gym to bring their prestige up when others take cracks at it. Training has been hugely helpful for me, in being able to know on the fly which of my Pok?mons will do better against which other kinds, and in learning to dodge better (which I'm still not very good at).

I guess part of what helps is that my gym is an ugly-ass church in an ugly-ass boring neighbourhood. Try adding a Pok?mon to a wildly popular tourist spot, like Harpa Concert Hall, and you're lucky to have a Pok?mon in that gym for an hour before some whale rolls up and mows everyone down with their 2000+ CP Snorlax or whatever.

Oh yeah? It was clunky, but it did work for me. Admittedly my sample size was small, but I successfully used it to find Pokemon as intended on a number of occasions.

So I just saw a Clefairy spawn near my house. I really, really want a Clefairy, so I went outside, completely arbitrarily picked a direction, and walked in it until the Clefairy disappeared from my radar. That told me that it wasn't any further in that direction, so I turned around, went a block over, and went in the opposite direction until the same thing happened. Theoretically given a lot of time I would have eventually found it doing this, but it despawned after ten minutes or so before I saw it. With the footprint system the amount of space needed to narrow down the possible area to search was much smaller because you just needed to see the number of footprints change, which made using this method within the time limit much more possible. Still not good, really, but it wasn't completely luck-based like this current system is.

As of a few hours ago, Brazil (and the rest of South America) has gotten Pok?mon Go.

Rather amusingly, my university has two gyms and zero pok?stops :V

Had an instance of this whIle tracking a pikachu, and that was with the footprints still working.

Yeah if you see it late in the spawn timer you could end up being fucked regardless. But at least you have a chance.

Is the radar even accurate at all as far as what's nearby right now? I was Pokemon hunting with a group yesterday and none of us ever showed the same nearby Pokemon. And all of the cool stuff I got, like my first Koffing finally, were on the list. I caught the Koffing while trying to find a Weezing which tempered my excitement a bit, but if it turns out the Weezing was an illusion then I guess I don't feel too bad.

It seems that the reason the radars are different is due to level differences, at least from what I've seen.
My mom plays PoGO, and we're about the same level because she plays every day and actually goes outside often.
[beside_the_point]

At some point, we were both level 11, and our radars showed the same thing. She leveled up because Lucky Eggs, and she then had different stuff on her radar. I caught up to her by evolve spamming with a Lucky Egg and now it's the same stuff again. Maybe that's just my situation, but I think it has something to do with level.

Currently just a hair away from Level 18 here, and noticed no real difference myself, but that could very well be because I just wasn't paying attention to it closely.

Taking Pok?mon Go into the Icelandic countryside is a lot of fun. Nothing like rolling into  some tiny village with like two Level 3 gyms, demolishing one of them and making it a Level 5 for your team, and then rolling back out. Pok?mon banditry on the open plains.

I'm pretty sure levels didn't matter to the Pokemon radar once. Maybe it's a new thing.

I'm almost certain they didn't at one time, and I'm not sure I'm convinced they do now.

The people I was with last night were very close in level (20, 21, and 22) and we were seeing different stuff. However, I had a number of times where I was with a huge group (200+ people) and we were seeing the same spawns at the same time, if not maybe the same radar.

IIRC, Incense runs on RNG. As a result, it doesn't display on the radar or any of that stuff. Additionally, any spawns from it specifically are circled in magenta, instead of white.

Correct. Incense is private lure, mons spawning under incense are purely for you only. Lure module is public. Any mon spawning there is seen by everyone.

The radar has a tendency to not get rid of pokemon that have despawned or you're out of range for, unless you restart the app or do some other witchery. That's very likely all this is.

I swear catching Pokemon is really annoying now. I don't particular mind if they jump more or punch back more. But a $!#@ 60 CP weedle shouldn't be escaping out of 6 curve balls. What the hell.

Edit:
Used incense (as I never used one before). The results were to cry for. Did anybody encounter anything awesome with incense? A high CP weedle/pidgey/rattata doesn't count :V

No. I've been told the only reason to use incense is stacked with attract modules but I haven't tried it yet. I may tomorrow.

I have never gotten anything decent with incense. Lures have a tendency to generate some interesting stuff if there are like three or more together. From what I see anyway.

Actually tried to defend a gym Mystic was holding alone against what turned out to be a Norwegian family of four - dad, teen son, two younger boys - huddled in a circle across the street, faces in their phones. They quickly took over shortly after my battery died. That's what happens when you put a gym in a library. It's Fortress Family.

On the plus side my Flareon had a good run. Getting gold is not easy.
