Well aiming for the scoring gimmick is a good way to start out when you're first learning to score, but you do need to plan a route eventually to continue to improve your score... You might develop your own route over time if you do enough scoring-oriented runs, though.
And while blue stars are important, don't forget about bullet cancels, and maximizing the number of borders you get.

When I tried to do a legit scorerun on Normal like Lolli did I ended up only getting slightly more than my submitted score below (3370 million) :V

I had no intention of a scorerun, just tried to achieve a better Lunatic 1cc (my first was pretty rusty and had 1/0 left iirc). Best run I've ever achieved though. :3

Random credit after not having played this game for months. Really close to the 1cc, but I didn't wish hard enough. Still, capturing Tensei's survival just edged this above my previous score.
