Is there a guide to writing PC98 music?
« on: February 01, 2016, 04:07:57 AM »
I'm not sure where this thread goes. Maybe in Tech support, but I'm not sure.

I'm looking for a guide for making PC98 music. I've found HertzDevil's list of instruments used in the PC-98 games, and a list of links for getting a .MML file compiler and .M file reader running. Thing is, neither of these specifically says how these things are used for making the music. HertzDevil might as well not have the instrument list because he doesn't say how to use it.

I've found no other information on how to write PC98 music other than a Wikipedia page about MML and its syntax. I don't know what to do with the instrument list, other than to possibly define the instruments manually, but otherwise I'm completely lost.

Yes,but there's no audio examples for each instrument, forcing me to guess from his videos. Also, there's an init section that I can't find any information about.

Writing songs in PMD MML is definitely a difficult thing to do, but fortunately we have access to what is potentially the most important piece of PMD documentation available: a partial translation of the official PMD manual.

PMD manual (Translated): http://pastebin.com/2cB2j8rm
M.Kajihara's website (you can download PMD, all its variations, and the compiler programs here): https://sites.google.com/site/kajapon/

Also: I have sent you a PM  :)
