Hey guys! I?m not new to the forums, but I am pretty new at being a member of it. I wasn?t planning on making a new thread, but once I wrote this down, I was like, I had to share this with somebody. And why not with you guys eh? If there is already a thread for this, if it is too similar to the other music threads, or if it is just plain not allowed on the forums, feel free to remove it.

This is a comparison between two Touhou games at a time on their music. My friend and I will compare each theme by doing it same stage vs same stage. For example, stage 1 of DDC vs stage 1 of TD or comparing intros or endings. If a friend of mine and I agree that one side is better, they get a point. If we believe they?re a tie or if we both think different things, they both get .5 points. We also rate each song on a scale of 1-12, with 12 being godlike themes and worth 2 points and with 1.. well no Touhou song is that bad. Ratings will not be revealed unless they get a 12. If you disagree with any of our opinions(opinions are just opinions after all), feel free to post it. Perhaps we?ll even change the scoring a bit!

-If my friend think it's a draw, while I think one side wins or vice versa, the one the person sided with will get 0.75 points while the one the other person decided was a draw will get 0.25 points
-If in the comparison both themes get a rating of 12 and are completely even, they both get 1 point
-If in the comparison both themes get a rating of 12 but one side sounds better to us, that side gets 2 points while the other gets 1 point]

My take on it-It feels very calming and much more pleasant to hear. DDC is more upbeat, but it just sounds so.. different. Not bad of course.

My take on it-Yuyuko?s theme was just really awesome and pretty epic. No other words are needed for that theme. DDC?s felt sorta.. bland and rough. Iunno.

My take on it-Oh boy, this one was very hard to decide. They were both so good. I feel DDC?s was more serious and epic, but TD was kinda silly in a way and melodic, a bit eerie perhaps?

My take on it-Holy crap, Sekibanki?s theme was way aHEAD of Kyouko?s. It was fast-paced, epic, and just awesome in general. That isn?t to say Kyouko?s was bad, not at all. It gave quite an eerie feeling and I like the instruments in it better. But Seki?s was just much better in terms of loudness and epicness.

DDC Stage 3 Theme Bamboo Forest of the Full Moon vs TD Stage 3 Theme Let's Live in a Lovely Cemetery -Draw

My take on it-This one was very hard to decide. In the end, we decided on a draw. TD?s sounded more calming and smoother. DDC?s felt more serious, louder, and epic in a way. We just couldn?t decide if one outclassed the other.

Lonesome Werewolf vs Rigid Paradise-DDC

My take on it-Alright, Kagerou?s theme was super awesome and epic. It gave off a sorta horror feeling in it but at around 47 seconds in, that part was just freakin? awesome as hell. Yoshika?s theme was pretty good and gave off a sorta creepy feeling too, but I just didn?t feel it had that epic part in it. It?s definitely pretty catchy and energetic in a way though.

My take on it-I love the background noises in DDC?s, with all the waves on stuff. It was very dramatic and gave a feeling of? restlessness? Hopelessness? TD?s felt more casual and relaxed in comparison, which isn?t necessarily a bad thing, but it just doesn?t compare to DDC?s.

Illusionary Joururi vs Old Yuanxian-DDC

My take on it-Alright alright, I LOVE Benben?s and Yatsuhashi?s theme A LOT. The instruments in it are amazing and I really like the melody. It felt very dramatic in a way and I like the string instrument played in it a lot. Seiga?s theme isn?t bad of course, but I feel like it pales in comparison to DDC?s, but maybe I?m just biased here. It certainly does feel eerie and it?s pretty fast paced. But DDC?s just outclasses TD?s in terms of epicness and instruments here.

My take on it- Okay, this was one was very hard to judge, but we gave the slightest edge to TD here. They?re both similar in our opinions, both very calming and not in your face loudness. But I feel TD?s more melancholic and smoother to listen to. I like the instruments and melody in TD?s better as well.

My take on it-I really like Futo?s part at around 35 seconds in. The whole song sounds very noble and melodic. Seija?s is pretty wacky and in your face, but I?ll give the edge to Futo?s here. It just doesn?t have a really epic part that stands out.

My take on it-We really, really didn?t like either all that much. DDC?s sounded pretty similar to the boss theme, except without the super epic part and only the melancholic/sad part. It just doesn?t sound that great. TD?s wasn?t all that great either, but I feel it has a few good parts in it. It gave a little feeling of ?you?re going to die a painful death? and the untz untz untz. At around 51 seconds in, it sounds really good. For that, a slight edge to TD?s.

My take on it-Okay, soooooo what can I say? Shinmyoumaru?s theme is mine and my friend?s favorite theme. It has so much build up, and it actually follows up on it super well. It has melancholic parts, epic parts, and just plain awesome parts. Miko?s isn?t bad by any means, but it just gets outclassed hard by the sheer epicness of DDC?s. It sounds prince like and pretty noble as well but.. well..Like many others, I was disappointed at around 35 seconds in. All that build up and there?s just.. that. It?s also pretty short.

My take on it-Very hard to decide on this one. I love the beginning part of TD?s, but the rest of DDC?s sounds more royal, noble, and melodic.

My friend?s take on it-He actually gave a slight edge to DDC?s, but agreed to a draw.

Primordial Beat ~ Pristine Beat vs Futatsuiwa from Sado-TD

My take on it-Mami?s theme so chilllll. It?s so chillll while also being serious at the same time, messing around with you. The melodic parts were just awesome to listen to. Raiko?s theme was pretty epic and cool, but I feel Mamizou outfoxed the drum.

My take on it-Oh maaaaaaaaaan. DDC CRUSHED TD?s here imo. TD sounded just like any other ending theme, which isn?t bad. But DDC?s is just so epic and if I actually beat the game and heard this, I would feel like the most powerful man in the world. I just like how slow and melodic it is. You finally did it! You beat a Touhou game!

My take on it-I really liked TD?s better here. The intro was awesome, it felt really calm and peaceful. It had some awesome melodic parts in here too. Don?t get me wrong here though, it was very close.

My friend?s take on it-My friend preferred DDC slightly here because of the instruments.

Conclusion:I rooted for TD, because I sorta felt they were the underdogs, but the Stage 6 boss theme of DDC is just too good. However, I?m surprised on how good TD did here compared to DDC. I?m not bashing TD here, but it was a bit of a surprise relistening to TD?s themes and realizing just how good they are.

An interesting comparison. TD is the one game in the series whose music I don't like, but I agree that relistening improves it a little. I'm indifferent to most of DDC, so I'm not too surprised it was a close battle. Kobito of the Shining Needle is indeed pure epic and far outclasses every other piece in these two games.

As for UFO vs SA, is there any way for it not to be SA by a landslide? SA is one of the games with the most beautiful music in the series -- though UFO wins the all-important boss 6 and extra boss battles.

Haha, I disagree with almost all your choices. I agree with stages 1 2 and 3 and Sukuna's theme, but everything else is completely flipped. Though I guess it makes sense that TD won. DDC was mostly uninteresting tracks, but the good ones it had were awesome. TD was just all around okay.

From the way you're judging them, I think SA is going to win. UFO was a lot like DDC- it was mostly boring tracks, but the good ones were really good. SA's entire soundtrack was really good but it none of the tracks reached UFO's level of awesome.

Mikuru-Hmm yeah. When I first was exposed to TD, I?ve seen quite a few bad reviews on it and I guess it sorta rubbed off on me. I don?t have that feeling now however. And oh yes, Kobitooooo! I was like, insta favorite theme when I first heard it. And haha, we?ll see if SA wins.

TresserT-Erm? DDC won. Sorry if I didn?t clarify that clearly enough, the whole thing is kinda of a mess after all. To see who won, look at the total points. Opinions are opinions, but how could you not love the Stage 4 boss theme of DDC? Pure epicness there. But yeah, I sorta do feel that TD is all around good while DDC has those amazing themes but everything else is kinda lackluster. And for your prediction.. I like more of the UFO themes than you may think.

Tengukami-IN was my first game haha. We?ll see if nostalgia will affect my ratings :p.

Personal comments before starting this-Okay let me be clear about these 2 games. I LOVE both the soundtracks of UFO and SA. They are among my favorites by far. I personally think they were the first games to sorta have that change of style of music in a little way. Also, I feel like they have smoother instruments than the older games, while still not being super in your face different like the newer games(looking at you here Stage 1 of DDC). As for my own personal prediction before relistening to everything with a more critical ear, I think UFO might win. Also, do you guys like the hyperlinks? It?s very tedious work, but I?m willing to put them on if you guys really want em?. With that being said, let?s get started! (After all we finished reviewing. My friend was too busy to do the first 3 themes so I reviewed them on my own. I?ll post his opinions later and I?ll change the score if he has a different opinion.)


Touhou UFO vs Touhou SA

Analysis:

UFO Intro A Shadow in the Blue Sky vs SA Intro Awakening of the Earth Spirits-SA

My take on it-I prefer SA?s slightly better here, but since they?re so different in style, I think they can go either way. I like how beautiful and grand SA?s intro theme here feels. It?s slow, melodic style definitely wins a point my book. UFO was more energetic, lively, and upbeat. That isn?t bad of course, but it just doesn?t really ring with me.

UFO Stage 1 Theme At the End of Spring vs SA Stage 1 Theme The Dark Blowhole-UFO

My take on it-UFO has my all time favorite stage 1 theme. It just feels so upbeat, fast paced, and epic. The piano is gorgeous here, it feels like you?re in the sky ready to kick some rat?s ass(and then proceed to have the rat kick your ass). SA is very good though and I like the slow, sorta melancholic and serious feel it has going. It?s slightly more melodic and beautiful in a way, but UFO just trumps it with it?s awesome piano and epicness here

Nazrin's theme A Tiny, Tiny, Clever Commander vs Yamame's theme The Sealed-Away Youkai ~ Lost Place-SA

My take on it-Very, very close. I?ll have to give a slight edge to SA here though. Felt really epic, and I really like the melody, tune, and instruments in it to. And again, it is a very beautiful theme, which SA seems to be filled with. UFO?s kinda repeats a lot and isn?t quite as beautiful and grand. Will UFO be able to make a comeback?

UFO Stage 2 theme The Sealed Cloud Route vs SA Stage 2 theme The Bridge People No Longer Cross-Draw(?) 0.75 points here for SA and 0.25 points for UFO

My take on it-Oh jesus jesus jesus Kanako! How am I supposed to decide this one? Each and every UFO and SA theme are just so even! UFO?s theme feels so relaxed and it feels like you?re really flying through the sky, ready to kick an umbrella?s.. well.. they don?t really have an ass do they? SA is much more.. ehh.. eerie? It?s certainly more beautiful and pretty however. I think it?s a draw.

My friend?s take on it-He too believes this is extremely close and agrees with my analysis. However, he gives a slight edge to SA here, since SA?s is just so beautiful. 

Kogasa's theme Beware the Umbrella Left There Forever vs Parsee's theme Green Eyed Jealousy-Draw(?) 0.75 points here for UFO and 0.25 points for SA

My take on it-Oh god they?re both just so even! Kogasa?s theme is so in your face, upbeat, catchy, I?m going to beat the shit out of you feeling while still being pretty. Parsee?s theme is more melancholic, beautiful, slow, and sad, which I think matches Kogasa here.

My friend?s take on it-He also agrees with me that this is very close, but he?ll give the edge to Kogasa here. He much prefers the melody in Kogasa?s theme and.. I?ll agree with him a little there.

UFO Stage 3 Theme Sky Ruin vs SA Stage 3 Theme Walking the Streets of Former Hell-SA

My take on it-Phew, finally a theme where I wasn?t biting my nails deciding which one was better. I much prefer SA?s theme here. Even though UFO does sound really beautiful here, it?s kinda bland and slow placed. SA is super chill while being just as beautiful here. It feels very fun and welcoming, and I like how fast paced it is. A welcome change from several of the themes here.

Ichirin's theme The Traditional Old Man and the Stylish Girl vs Yuugi's theme A Flower-Studded Sake Dish on Mt Ooe-UFO

My take on it-This one was very close, but I?ll give a very slight edge to Ichirin here. Her theme is energetic and ready to brofist you, but it?s also very elegant and beautiful as well at the same time. I also prefer the instruments in it. Yuugi?s theme is a bit more relaxed and welcoming, while being pretty energetic and kinda fast-paced as well. It?s also pretty beautiful. Buuuut I?m giving to Ichirin here.

My friend?s take on it-Same verdict as me.

UFO Stage 4 Theme Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship vs SA Stage 4 Theme Heartfelt Fancy-SA

My take on it-Holy craaap SA is sooooooooo beautiful here. I know I?ve said that word millions of times here for SA, but now it REALLY applies. Especially the parts with the humming voices, and it?s just so calming and pretty. UFO starts off really oddly, but later it?s actually really beautiful as well but it just can?t take down the cat that keeps on popping up and killing you!

My friend?s take on it-He really loves both themes, he really does. He?s just barely giving an edge to SA here. 

Murasa's theme Captain Murasa vs Satori's theme Satori Maiden ~ 3rd eye-UFO

My take on it-Oh god they were both sooo close. Murasa?s theme was so epic, intense, fast paced, in your face, and ready to anchor you. And that slow, dramatic part at around 1 minute and 20 seconds in.. ear orgasms there. Satori?s theme put up one hell of a fight however. It?s start off kinda eerie and playful, but it just develops into this beautiful melody and the climax at the end of it.. holy crap. Super slight edge to Murasa here.

My friend?s take on it-He eagerly gave the edge to Murasa here, but after listening to Satori?s a bit more, he got a little conflicted, but still gave it to Murasa.

UFO Stage 5 Theme Provincial Makai City Esoteria vs SA Stage 5 Theme Lullaby of Deserted Hell- 1 points for each, 12 ratings for both

My take on it-If you gave me a million dollars to decide which one is better between these two, I swear I will not be able to decide. You guys might think I?m overrating these two, but they?re really are just sooo good. UFO sounds fast and slow at the same time and the drums were very excellent here. It?s very beautiful and epic and the part at 1:10.. ohh? SA.. SA was beauty and eeriness incarnate. The beginning part with the wind was just amazing. And the rest was just so beautiful and melancholic.. so sad.. so..

My friend?s take on it-He really likes UFO here, but something just clicks with SA with him. He agrees with the 12 ratings.

Shou's Theme The Tiger-Patterned Vaisravana vs Rin's Theme Corpse Voyage ~ Be of good cheer!-Draw

My take on it-I really like Shou?s theme here. It feels super aggressive, in your face, epic, while also being really beautiful at the same time. Rin?s theme just doesn?t have that feel in my opinion and kinda lacks in comparison.

My friend?s take on it-I was a bit surprised at his verdict, but he preferred Rin?s theme because of how calming it is. He prefers more calm and melancholic themes unless he thinks the upbeat one clearly outclasses the other(which I totally do :p).

UFO Stage 6 Theme Fires of Hokkai vs SA Stage 6 Theme Hellfire Mantle-UFO 12 rating, 2 points

My take on it-Against any other game, SA would?ve won right then and there. Not with UFO. Fires of Hokkai was my personal previous all time favorite theme before Kobito of the Shining Needle stole that spot. The heartbeats at the beginning are just one of the best things I?ve head, and a sharp contrast to the usual upbeat and energetic nature of UFO. The rest of the song is just pure beauty and full of epic parts, intense parts, it?s like you?re fighting a huge battle and trying to overcome it. SA?s was very intense and full of tension, and it was very beautiful at parts. At 1:20 in particular, that part felt like the calm before a storm. Very beautiful part. But like I said, against any other theme, it would?ve won. But not against UFO.

Byakuren's Theme Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind vs Utsuho's Theme Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion-UFO

My take on it-Oh man. I feel like Byakuren?s theme definitely blows Utsuho?s theme out of the water, even if they aren?t my favorite final boss stage theme. Byakuren?s theme feels like a huge struggle, an uphill battle. Its elegant, beautiful, epic, intense, and like the title says, an Emotional Skyscraper. Utsuho?s theme in contrast just feels kinda aggressive, brash, in your face, and power. You?re going to get fucking blown in the face with nuclear energy. I think that definitely suits Utsuho, but I just prefer Byakuren?s theme here. They?re both sharp contrasts to the rest of their respective games however. Utsuho?s theme all aggression and brash and power, in contrast to the usual beauty and eeriness of SA. Byakuren is all elegant and beautiful, a contrast to the usual upbeat and energetic UFO themes.

My friend?s take on it-He agrees with my conclusion of Byakuren. But? he wouldn?t say it deserves a 12 persay. He said he really likes it, but it only gets an 11.

UFO's Extra Theme UFO Romance in the Night Sky vs SA's Extra Theme Last Remote-SA

My take on it-SA?s extra stage theme is very beautiful. It?s also very restless and full of tension at the same time. You have to go further, you have to go further! Can?t stop can?t stop? UFO?s theme is a super sharp contrast to this. Very relaxed, humorous even. It?s like they?re just playing around with you. I really like the laughs in this as well. But? I think SA will take the cake here. It?s just a very beautiful theme. Very close to a 12, but not quite there

My friend?s take on it-At first, he preferred UFO here. But after a moment of indecision, he switched to SA.

Nue's Theme Heian Alien vs Koishi's Theme Hartmann's Youkai Girl -Draw

My take on it-I prefer Koshi?s theme here, though I may be a little biased since she?s my favorite character. I just love how insane the theme feels while also being beautiful and elegant, especially at 1:15. Nue?s theme is also very good. At first, it kinda sounds like horror, DOOM, you?re going to die a painful death, etc. At around 1:06 though, it sorta goes back into the extra stage theme sorta, Nue was just messin? with ya. But I think Koishi?s theme wins here.

My friend?s take on it-He prefers Nue?s theme here. He usually doesn?t really like the insane sounding songs and really likes Nue?s theme.

UFO Ending Theme Youkai Temple vs SA Ending Theme The Earth Spirits' Homecoming-SA

My take on it-UFO certainly feels more serene and calming here, even depressing but that?s not what I really want to hear in an ending theme. SA feels much more relaxed and happy, and when I beat a Touhou game, I want to be happy, especially in SA.

My friend?s take on it-Same thing

UFO's Staff Roll Theme Returning Home from the Sky ~ Sky Dream vs SA's Staff Roll Theme Energy Daybreak ~ Future Dream-Draw

My take on it-I love SA?s theme here, it?s so in your face, so full of victory, that?s what I want to hear when I beat a Touhou game!

My friend?s take on it-He prefers UFO?s theme here, he likes the really calm feel of it.

Game Over Music-Draw?...No points for either

My take on it-They?re both the same exact thing.

Conclusion: So, SA and UFO tied. Let?s just start by saying if we compared either UFO or SA to DDC or TD, they?ll completely blow DDC and TD out of the water in our opinions, no contest, shoot em? down, etc. Let?s also just say that people weren?t kidding when they said a lot of stage 5 themes were actually better than the actual boss theme, and are just really good in general. With that out of the way, time for some final words. When I first looked at the playlist for the songs I was like ah god.. they?re both just so freakin even.. This will be much harder to decide than DDC vs TD. I feel most SA?s themes were much more beautiful, eerie, calming, serene, slow paced, dramatic, etc. In contrast, most of UFO?s themes were much more upbeat, energetic, in your face, powerful, epic, etc. They?re both just have extremely different styles so it?s hard to judge. Fires of Hokkai is an epic and beautiful theme and I definitely think it deserves a 12. Both of the stage 5 themes were awesome too and I do think they barely get a 12 there. If I miscounted or if there was something I missed, please inform me! I think my friend and I did the best job we could, and as always, you can post your opinions down below!

Next up..HRtP vs EoSD! Hell yeah we?re bringing in PC-98 here! They too hold some of the best themes in Touhou history. Let?s see if the first Touhou Windows game can match the first ever Touhou game! The problem is that HRtP?s progression is very strange and I?m not sure how to compare it to EoSD. Any ideas? Well anyways, post your hated, undefined, and fantastic opinions and predictions now!

A bit late to the TD discussion but I just want to post as someone who likes TD's music


Not saying TD is my favorite, but I really like the percussion (especially in trance mode), the melodies, and the high-quality covers themselves. Night Sakura of Dead Spirits, Let's Live in a Lovely Cemetery, The Hall of Dreams' Great Mausoleum, and Legend of the Great Gods are some of my overall favorites even, though I have a lot of favorites. You could say I'm biased because TD was my second game (my first was EoSD) and it was the one that got me into Touhou, but I don't really mind -- personally I'd bet most people have had similar influence from their first games :p For all I know, I'd be fonder towards the songs from for example Touhous 6 to 8 if I'd been raised on that trilogy first like a lot of other people, but as it is, I'm more attached to ZUN's music from MoF onwards, and I can actually think of reasons to myself why I prefer those songs.




Anyway I quite enjoyed that dissection of UFO versus SA, probably 'cause I used to compare the two games' songs a lot to myself I tend to either really like or be neutral towards UFO songs, while I like the SA OST as a whole more. SA and MoF are probably my favorites.

This is how it will go. The intros, stage 1, endings, and character themes are simple enough. Then for example, Stage 2 will go up against Makai Route 6-9 and Jigoku Route 6-9, and Stage 3 will go up against the same.

Electric Tengu-Oh no, I really like TD?s OST as well. The themes you listed are great themes. And ah yes, the Touhou game that gets you into Touhou will always sorta.. give that feeling. I try to be as unbiased as possible in terms of that kind of thing, so I won?t let nostalgia get in my way.

Personal Comments Before Starting This: You know, when I first heard the PC-98 themes I was like dayuuuuuum. These are really good! Why aren?t these more popular?(well besides Bad Apple). Although I love the characters in EoSD, I?m rather neutral toward their themes, but that doesn?t mean they aren?t great. My friend and I will try to judge this as fairly as possible. Speaking of my friend.. he really loves the PC-98 themes. And to everyone here, you can comment on any comparison anytime you want. Well then, are you ready to begin?

EoSD Scarlet Beyond a Crimson Dream vs HRtP A Sacred Lot -HRtP 1 point

Takes on it-Hollllllllllly shit. HRtP doesn?t even SOUND like a intro theme here, it could definitely fit as a freakin? stage 6 theme. It feels so epic, full of tension, even foreboding and scary. If this was my first Touhou game, I would be like, what the fuck did I just get myself into? The part at 1:02 is just godlike and the beginning part was awesome as well. HOWEVER! EoSD?s sounds more calming and happier, and? Introy. It suits an intro theme better. I would feel much better if I heard this as an intro as a beginning Touhou player. But.. my friend and I just HAVE to give it to HRtP here, a much slighter edge than I thought.

Stage 1 of EoSD A Soul as Red as a Ground Cherry vs Eternal Shrine Maiden Stage 1-4/Jigoku Route 16/19-HRtP 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-Holy... Shit. HRtP?s theme here... THIS is what I consider the actual first Touhou theme. It is so.. beautiful and full of tension at the same time. There is so much weight in it, it feels like after a huge battle. Pretty slow paced here and even a bit melancholy. However again, EoSD actually sounds like a Stage 1 theme here and it feels more fitting. It feels pretty upbeat and happy here, and I actually REALLY like the stage 1 theme here in EoSD. I think it?s also beautiful, but it just lacks the sheer force of the Eternal Shrine Maiden here.

Apparitions Stalk the Night vs Shingyoku?s theme The Positive and Negative -EoSD 1 point

Takes on it-I really like Rumia?s theme here. It?s catchy, upbeat, a little scary, epic, and beautiful too. 26 seconds in is when I really like it though, I like the repetition there. My friend actually prefers HRtP here, but he thinks it?s due to his instrument bias. He wants to give it to EoSD here.

Stage 2 of EoSD Lunate Elf vs Makai Route 6-9 The Highly Responsive to Prayers-EoSD 1 point

Takes on it-EoSD starts off with a little tune that seems to be saying ?This is where it gets harder!? It then develops into this slow, beautiful melody. Makai here seems to have a lot of build up here and is pretty slow paced. At 50 seconds it finally pays off, but I don?t think it beats EoSD here. Friend agrees.

Stage 2 of EoSD Lunate Elf vs Jigoku Route 6-9 Strange Oriental Discourse-HRtP 1 point

Takes on it-Jigoku seems to be asking ?What are you getting yourself into?? It has that really foreboding feeling in it, I wouldn?t call it melancholic. Very epic theme here, and at 1:17.. holy crap. VERY epic part there. HRtP trumps EoSD here.

Stage 3 of EoSD Shanghai Teahouse ~ Chinese Tea vs Makai Route 6-9 The Highly Responsive to Prayers-EoSD 1 point

Takes on it-Meiling?s stage theme here is so relaxed and happy! It?s also a very beautiful theme. There?s 2 really epic parts in it imo. 41 seconds in and 1:08 in, both very amazing parts here. Again, I just don?t think Makai can compare here.

Stage 3 of EoSD Shanghai Teahouse ~ Chinese Tea vs Jigoku Route 6-9 Strange Oriental Discourse-Draw .5 points for both

Takes on it-They both seem very even, and we just can?t come up with a verdict here. We both really love EoSD here, but HRtP?s foreboding feeling and that part at 1:17 is just epic.

Beloved Tomboyish Girl vs Angel?s Legend-Drawin 0.75 to Cirno, 0.25 to YuugenMagan/Mima

Takes on it-Cirno?s theme has that competitive feeling while still being a very beautiful theme. The especially beautiful part starts at around 0:31 here. Yuugen here starts very fast paced and aggressive and there?s ton of build up. The build up leads to something at 0:30 and 1:29, both very epic parts. However, I give it Cirno here, while my friend gave it a draw.

Shanghai Alice of Meiji 17 vs Angel?s Legend-EoSD 1 point

Takes on it-I prefer Meiling?s theme here. It starts off pretty fast paced and aggressive too, but it later develops to a very beautiful melody at around 40 seconds in. Yuugen doesn?t stand a chance here. My friend agrees.

Stage 4 of EoSD Voile, the Magic Library vs Makai Route 11-14 Oriental Magician-HRtP 1 point

Takes on it-Holy crap. Makai?s theme here sounds REALLY scary the first 10 seconds. The whole song is very atmospheric and I feel it stomps the slightly eerie and mysterious feel of EoSD here. Even if EoSD is a little more pretty here, Makai just overpowers it. Friend agrees.

Stage 4 of EoSD Voile, the Magic Library vs Jigoku Route 11-14 Blade of Banishment-Draw .5 points for both

Takes on it-Jigoku is more light hearted here in comparison. I feel both are kinda similar here, they aren?t that super foreboding feeling in Makai, but they?re both kinda eerie and light hearted and pretty beautiful. Friend agrees.

Stage 5 of EoSD The Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood vs Makai Route 11-14 Oriental Magician-Draw .5 points for both

Takes on it-Oh man, the The Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood. It?s a very beautiful theme and is a very good Stage 5 theme. Very epic and intense as well. The part at 1:11? simply outstanding. I feel it can match Makai?s sheer scariness and atmosphere here. Friend agrees.

Takes on it-EoSD just far outclasses Jigoku here. EoSd is beautiful, epic, intense, and just all around awesome. Jigoko can?t hold a candle here.

Takes on it-I LOVE PATCHY?S THEMEEEEEEEE . She is one of my favorite characters and her themes holds in one of my more personal favorites. It?s just so melancholic, beautiful, intense, epic, and just so.. powerful. I love the duuun dun-duuun dun-duuuun dun-duuuun duuuuuuuuuuuun dundundundundundun parts in it. Elis/Kikuri?s theme starts off pretty aggressive, but it is also a very beautiful theme. I just don?t it matches Patchy here. Friend agrees.

Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial vs Magic Mirror-EoSD 1 point

Takes on it-SAKUYA IS OUT FOR YOUR BLOOOOD! Before I read a lot of fanfictions, Sakuya was my absolute favorite character. How can you not like a time-manipulating maid that throws knives with master precision? This theme demonstrates Sakuya?s wild side, her thirst to kill. It is a very intense, aggressive, and epic theme here. Beautiful, but deadly. Friend agrees

Stage 6 of EoSD The Young Descendant of Tepes vs Makai Route 16-19 the Legend of KAGE-HRtP 1 point

Takes on it-Holy crap. That beginning part of HRtP here. Very interesting. The whole song feels so melancholic with a hint of revenge and anger. Very, very good theme here. EoSD in contrast sounds calming and classy, but still with a hint of foreboding. But it just can?t compared to HRtP here. Friend agrees.

Septette for the Dead Princess vs Now, Until the Moment You Die-EoSD 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-Remilia?s theme reeks of classy here. She?s going to be calm, collected, and ready to beat your ass with little to no effort. We were a little unsure of the 12 rating, but Remi deserves it. Sariel?s theme is kinda disappointing in a way. It has an aggressive, foreboding opening and is pretty fast paced. But it just can?t compare to Remi here. Friend agrees.

Septette for the Dead Princess vs Civilization of Magic- Draw 12 ratings for both 1 point each

Takes on it- Ah geez, hope I don?t get hate here. Because hot damn! Sariel?s second theme is badass as hell! It has a feeling of power, pride, and it?s ready to shove it in your face. Sariel here feels like she?s just going to go all out, no shits taken. They?re both very even here. Friend agrees.

U.N. Owen was her? vs Swordsman of a Distant Star-Draw .5 points each

Takes on it-If I don?t get hate with Remilia?s, perhaps with this. We like Flandre?s theme, but we also feel it?s overrated for all the love it gets. Flandre?s theme has a sorta crazy/insane feel in it but if you look past that, it?s a very beautiful theme. 30 seconds is a pretty part. 52 seconds in is a pretty foreboding part. But it is generally a beautiful and powerful theme. Konngara?s theme is extremely interesting here. It?s a very energetic theme with a lot of cool parts, but underlying it is a feeling of melancholy. We couldn?t decide and decided on a draw.

EoSD Ending Theme Crimson Beyond a Fleeing Eternity vs HRtP Ending Theme Iris-HRtP 1 point

Takes on it-Very close. EoSD?s ending is a very calming and beautiful piece here, 27 seconds is a very awesome part as well. Buuuut HRtP here was just really short and sweet. It was pretty upbeat and I just felt like.. it had a lot more meaning and weight in it. Friend agrees.

Staff Roll of EoSD vs HRtP?s Bonus Track from Akyu?s Untouched Score Vol. 5-Draw .5 points for both

Takes on it-Ehh I know they aren?t really that similar but wyanut right? I dunno if there?s a staff roll theme in HRtP. EoSD here gives such a great feeling of victory here. The whole theme is beautiful. However.. HRtP?s theme here.. this has set the groundwork for pretty much EVERY intro theme ever after this. And probably some other stage themes I can?t recall right now. It?s a very beautiful piece. For this, my friend and I draw it.

Conclusion: Truth be told, I did not expect EoSD to win here. And if they did, it would be very close. I was very surprised however as I relistened to their themes with a more critical ear and found out how much I truly enjoyed them. However, do not let the points mislead you. HRtP is host to many, MANY great themes. Eternal Shrine Maiden is probably one of the best themes I?ve ever heard, and it is a theme to remember as I believe it is the true first Touhou theme. Makai?s Route 11-14 Oriental Magician was scary as fuck. Holy crap, the atmosphere in that theme is just amazing! And Sariel?s 2nd theme was just freakin? godlike. However, EoSD had a host of very great themes as well. Sakuya, Patchouli, Remilia, Meiling, all of them had great character themes and stage themes. The whole soundtrack of EoSD felt more light hearted in general, with a hint of classiness, calmness, and epicness. HRtP?s themes however.. wow. They held so much more weight, they were all just so.. epic. Each and every one of them. I guess it?s fitting since in that game everything is actually trying to KILL you, it makes for a more serious and depressing game soundtrack. My friend is moaning in despair here since he LOVES the PC-98 themes, but well, he agreed to the decisions didn?t he? :3 Also, do you guys like this format? Personal Comments Before Starting This:Awww no comments on the HRtP vs EoSD? I thought it was an interesting comparison :p Ah w/e, now we will do PCB vs IN! IN was my first Touhou game and even before that I was already hooked. Figuring out how the hell I could shoot and looking up the controls is a memory I won?t forget haha. But I will try my hardest not to let bias show, though I?ll probably fail. At least my friend here will sorta prevent that. I really do like both soundtracks here, so it will be a close comparison I say! Nah IN will beat PCB within an inch of it?s life. Let?s begin shall we?

IN Intro Imperishable Night ~ Eastern Night vs PCB Intro Mystic Dream ~ Snow or Cherry Petal-Draw 0.5 to both

Takes on it-Okay bias showing here? It?s just? I feel like the title screen of IN here is mystical, mysterious, foreboding, beautiful, and calming. PCB is also very calming and beautiful but just lacks.. that feeling. Which is odd since it HAS mystic in the title there lol. My friend does believe PCB takes it here and is.. pointing out my bias :p.

IN Stage 1 Theme Illusionary Night ~ Ghostly Night vs PCB Stage 1 Theme Paradise ~ Deep Mountain- Draw 0.5 to both

Takes on it-Oh my god, IN here? it?s so foreboding with a hint of mystery in it! A very fitting stage 1 theme, and that part at 1:17.. ohhhh yes. It?s very atmospheric. PCB however is very very calming and beautiful here. It perfectly introduces the kind of game PCB is. My friend drew it, while my bias immediately gave it to IN here, but eventually drew it as well.

Stirring an Autumn Moon ~ Mooned Insect vs Crystallized Silver-IN 1 point

Takes on it:Wriggle kick! God I love her theme here! It?s very beautiful and epic. Very upbeat, and I like that Carol of Bells thing it has going on there(I realize it?s not exactly like it but eh). Now I don?t wanna bash Letty?s theme here, but my friend felt that her theme was sorta mediocre and boring here, and while I don?t entirely agree, I do think Wriggle wrecked her here.

IN Stage 2 Song of the Night Sparrow ~ Night Bird vs PCB Stage 2 The Fantastic Legend of Tohno-PCB 1 point

Takes on it-Okay, even I have to admit PCB wins here. That opening is fucking godlike. The whole theme is very beautiful and calming while still remaining upbeat here. IN is good and is full of tension and restlessness, but it does not match PCB here. My friend actually doesn?t like the opening but prefers PCB here anyway.

Deaf to all but the Song vs Diao ye zong-Draw .5 points to both

Takes on it-So I really preferred Mystia here. It gave a feeling of horror, restlessness, but if you see through all that, it?s quite a beautiful theme. In contrast, my friend preferred Chen here how calm and pretty it was. Buuuut he does say that Chen?s doesn?t really fit as a boss theme.

Nostalgic Blood of the East ~ Old World vs The Doll Maker of Bucuresti-IN 1 point

Takes on it-Oh man the nostalgia here from IN? it is a very beautiful, calming, soothing, and serene theme here. PCB here sounds pretty creepy but beautiful, but both my friend and I think IN outclasses PCB here.

Plain Asia vs Doll Judgment-Draw .5 points to both

Takes on it-Oh man Keine?s theme here is awesome! Very beautiful while also being epic and badass. It sounds like she?s ready to defend the Human Village at any costs here against the youkai-human duos. On the other hand, Alice?s theme sounds beautiful as well. It has an unnerving feeling to it, but also feels very calm. It?s hard to explain here. Although I wanted to give it to Keine here, my friend and I agreed to a draw. 

IN Stage 4 Retribution for the Eternal Night ~ Imperishable Night vs PCB Stage 4 The Capital City of Flowers in the Sky-Draw .5 points to both

Takes on it-Man you can?t win here in IN, you get lasered off by Marisa or get yin yang?d by Reimu. I really like how fast paced and intense IN here is. Not only that, it?s a pretty beautiful piece here. My friend however preferred PCB here since it is extremely calming, serene, and beautiful.

Maiden?s Capriccio ~ Dream Battle vs Phantom Ensemble-PCB 1 point

Takes on it-Oh man, Phantom Ensemble is a very good theme. The instruments in it are really good, and deadly(damn it I hated fighting against them in game but Reimu?s yin-yang orbs fucking screw them). The part at 50 seconds in is just pure awesome. Reimu?s theme here is kinda.. meh. It?s beautiful and stuff but it just falls short of PCB here.

Love-colored Master Spark vs Phantom Ensemble-IN 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-Marisa?s theme. Holy shit. Words cannot describe the pure spark of this theme. It?s so epic, intense, fast paced, catch, awesome, epic, and did I say fucking epic? The beginning was very very good here. The whole song was just pure epicness. 54 seconds in was really awesome after the huge onslaught of awesome music after the beginning. Then the drums at 1:18 holy fucking shit. The Prismriver Sisters? theme were good, but it does not even hold a candle to Marisa here. Sorry jeez lol, Marisa is prob one of my fav characters and I guess it shows here. My friend preferred the PC-98 version of Marisa?s theme, but agreed to a 12.

IN Stage 5 Theme Cinderella Cage ~ Kagome-Kagome vs PCB Stage 5 Theme Mystic Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple-PCB 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-Even with my bias toward IN, PCB just blew me away with this theme. THIS THEME. Holy crap. It it so serene, mystical, calming, but still has a shit ton of epic and build up. It felt very smooth and pleasant to listen to. I love the humming voices here throughout the whole theme. 0:46 in particular is a very awesome part, but the slow build up toward it was just.. on a whole new level. IN couldn?t even touch PCB here.

Lunatic Eyes ~ Invisible Full Moon vs Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird ~ Till When?-Drawin 0.75 to IN and 0.25 to PCB

Takes on it-Reisen?s theme is probably the first Touhou theme I?ve heard, it was like years before I even heard of Touhou. I feel like it has a very frantic feel in it and after all the build up and boom at 1:04, freakin? epic part there. I feel that Youmu?s theme is extremely disappointing compared to her AMAZING stage theme. It lost all the mystical and serene feeling. However, my friend is very indifferent to both of these songs and doesn?t really care for either, so he draws it.

IN Stage 6 Theme Voyage 1969 vs PCB Stage 6 Theme Ultimate Truth-IN 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-Oh. My. Kanako. IN stahhp ittttt. The background instrument in the intro of IN here was amazing. The whole song is just.. so calm and serene and so.. free. It really feels like you?re floating endlessly into the void of space. It is such a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL theme. How could we not give it a 12? This beautiful but bland PCB theme can?t even lick the boots of IN here.

Gensokyo Millennium ~ History of the Moon vs Border of Life-12 ratings for both. However, 2 points to PCB and 1 point to IN

Takes on it-Before I start, a new kind of problem has occured. If both themes deserve a 12 but we feel one is still better, what do we do? Add 2 points to the one we consider better and 1 point to the one that still deserves a 12. Aight with that out of the way, my friend and I spent A LOT of time thinking on these 3 themes. Eirin?s theme is grand, majestic, and full of victory here. Very beautiful theme. 1:36 onward is GODLIKE. HOWEVER! We feel Yuyuko has a slight, very slight edge here. Her theme starts off rather calm and collected. Then it dissolves into this frantic melody. Then it just goes pure epic at 0:26. I really like the dynamics here in Yuyuko?s theme, especially later on at 1:55. The stop at 1:03 is amazing as well. She has this really epic part at 1:29 as well. Yuyuko?s whole theme is just so epic and grand, it feels like a huge battle. This is super close, but we give it to Yuyuko.

Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess vs Border of Life-Draw 12 ratings 1 point to each side

Takes on it-?Kaguya sighed as the heroines burst into the room and demand her to explain herself. Standing up slowly from her crescent shaped throne, she glanced around at the half circle around her and laughed.
?That is none of your concern. Now run along like good little girls? or die.?
That?s actually what I feel the first 15 seconds of Kaguya?s theme might go like. That intro was just amazing. The whole song is very epic here and we could never decide between Yuyuko and Kaguya here. I really like the held out high note at 0:51 in Kaguya?s theme. 1:21 onward is just PURE epicness. 2:00 onward is just.. holy crap. Kaguya?s theme is so beautiful! But so is Yuyuko?s.. this is definitely a draw here.

(Final) Eirin and Kaguya?s Last Spell Theme - Voyage 1970 vs (Final) Yuyuko Saigyouji?s Border of Life- PCB 1 point

Takes on it-Mmmm. IN here kinda sounds similar to the Stage 6 theme with more tension mixed in. PCB here sounds similar to Yuyuko?s theme as well. However, we do think PCB sounds way more epic and foreboding. It definitely sounds like Yuyuko is on her back foot and is desperate to beat back Reimu/Marisa/Sakuya.

IN Extra Stage Extend Ash ~ Hourai Victim vs PCB Extra Stage Charming Domination-IN 1 point

Takes on it-Oh man, IN is very, very beautiful here. It has tension and a feeling of foreboding in it, but it?s very beautiful and I feel like it takes the cake here. The parts at 1:44 and 2:09 were awesome. PCB on the other hand is FULL of tension and is quite beautiful as well. The part at 1:16 is quite good. A Charming Domination indeed. However, IN wins here.

IN Extra Stage Extend Ash ~ Hourai Victim vs PCB Phantasm Stage Charming Domination ~ Who done it?- IN 1 point

Takes on it-I actually prefer the extra stage theme of PCB rather than the Phantasm stage. The Phantasm stage sounds the same except a bit.. sharper? A bit hard to explain. But IN here just outclasses PCB.

Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke vs A Maiden?s Illusionary Funeral ~ Necro-Fantasy-IN 1 point

Takes on it-Oh maaaan Mokou?s theme here is so good. I love that awesome intro in it. Also at 1:14.. very very beautiful part here. The whole theme is pretty fast paced and I feel it represents Mokou?s anger, bitterness, and struggles through her endless life. Ran?s theme is kinda just tension until 0:45 which is a beautiful part, but it just cannot match Mokou here. My friend and I were sooooo close to giving it a 12, but sorta decided it was more of a 11.5 here.

Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke vs Necrofantasia-PCB 2 points

Takes on it-It pains me so to say this but? we both think Yukari beats Mokou here. By a very small shred mind you. At first I was like ehhh, I don?t really like the instruments here. But then I turned down the volume a bit and Yukari?s theme was absolutely magnificent and awesome. It?s a very, very beautiful theme here and I especially love the part 47 seconds in. Very epic all throughout however. I think it suits Yukari very well, it sorta starts off strange and playful, but it then slowly develops into this beautiful melody. We also feel it has that? weight in it. Mokou?s theme had her bitterness and anger in it but for some reason.. we just think Yukari has that ?feel? to it we just can?t describe.

IN Ending Theme Evening Primrose vs PCB Ending Theme Dream of a Spring Breeze-Draw 0.5 points to both

Takes on it-The first 10 seconds feel like ?Oh shit did I do something bad?? Then after that it?s all alright, you beat the game! Congrats! Then at 30 seconds it just develops into this beautiful and epic part. I prefer IN here and this time my friend doesn?t think I?m biased.  However, my friend prefers PCB here. It is definitely more calming and.. sadder. It?s a very beautiful theme. He prefers PCB over IN here.

IN Staff Roll Eternal Dream ~ Mystic Maple vs PCB Sakura, Sakura ~ Japanize Dream-IN 1 point

Takes on it-Oh maan. That intro of IN?s is just epic! The theme is fast paced, epic, beautiful, and it just feels so atmospheric and has a lot more weight here. PCB is slower, calmer, and just as beautiful but it cannot match IN here.

Conclusion: Let me start off with saying that we realize many people will probably disagree with the verdicts made here. Everybody has different opinions after all. This comparison in particular might not ring with you. However, I do have to say that this comparison broke the amount of 12?s record by far. There are so many themes between these 2 games that deserve a 12 or just barely miss the mark. Don?t be misled by the points, both these games have great, great themes. PCB has Mystic Oriental Dream ~Ancient Temple, Border of Life, and Necrofantasia(some people prefer Ran?s theme however). All very great themes. However, IN has a shit ton of great themes as well. Love-Colored Master Spark, Voyage 1969, Gensokyo Millenium ~ History of the Moon, Flight of the Bamboo Cutter ~ Lunatic Princess, Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke, and the earlier themes all had that nostalgic feel for me personally. IN?s themes feel much more atmospheric, epic, and beautiful in our opinion while PCB?s themes sounds more graceful, mystical, and, well, beautiful. Trust me on this that the verdicts were very hard to make, and that I believe a lot of my bias had been contained. IN won. I actually agree with almost everything here. I personally like Ultimate Truth more than Voyager 1969, but I can see why people would prefer the latter. And I can't believe you put Necro-Fantasy beneath Reach for the Moon!

EoSD/HRtP's layout was too complicated for me to say anything about who won. I think Blade of Banishment is one of the most underrated songs in touhou, and while I like Swordsman of a Distant Star, I think it's pretty overrated. UN Owen was Her (at least, the original version) is also pretty overrated so I guess those songs go good together?

Next you could do PoDD/PoFV but ignore PoDD's trivial songs like the character select theme and victory demonstration, and skip PoFV's "old" themes like Lunatic Red Eyes and Ghostly Ensemble. Both games introduce 9 new player themes so they match up pretty well.

I also think MoF/MS or Seihou/LLS would be a good comparison. SWR/ULiL would be good, but only about 6 songs for those games were actually written by ZUN. Or you could just compare all the fighting game's ZUN songs. You should NOT do StB/DS because, even though they match up fine, it isn't even a contest.

I guess the HRtP and EoSD comparison was a bit weird, but with how different they are in progression and stuff? it was the best I could do I think. Now for PoDD/PoFV and fighting game comparisons? I?m at a lost at how to actually compare them. Don?t like all the bosses appear in different orders? There?s no set stage between them are they? Excuse me for my ignorance, I haven?t really played those games all too much, but the only way I think I could compare those games fairly is if I rated all of them separately and added all the ratings together and see who had the most.

Personal Comments Before Starting This: Alright I?ll be honest here in saying I have never actually played MoF before. Like I?ve literally played every Touhou Windows game except for MoF. And since I haven?t really listened to MS all that much, I feel this will be a pretty unbiased comparison. Probably the most unbiased comparison I?ve done so far. I actually have no idea who I think will win. With that out of the way, let?s get started shall we?

MS Intro Wondrous Romance ~ Mystic Square vs MoF Intro Sealed Gods-MS 1 point

Takes on it- MS here just has so much more weight in it. It?s a very epic and foreboding theme, and quite beautiful if you look past that. On the other hand, MoF actually sounds like an intro here and is more slower, calming. However, we feel that MS has an edge here, if only slightly.

MS Stage 1 Theme Dream Express vs MoF Stage 1 Theme A God That Loves People ~ Romantic Fall-MoF 1 point

Takes on it-Very, VERY close. Like 1/100 of a millimeter close. But holy crap that INTRO THOUGH OF MOF! Very, very beautiful. The rest of the theme is pretty epic, beautiful ,and serene as well. I really like the part at 0:43 too. However, MS is just so.. so foreboding! Much more tension is in that theme and it?s very epic. I gave a super slight edge to MoF here though. My friend liked MS as a theme overall, but was too blown away by the beginning part of MoF.

Magic Formation ~ Magic Square vs Because Princess Inada Is Scolding Me-MoF 1 point

Takes on it-Oh man man man man man man man! It?s look like we won?t get scolded here! Holy crap MoF is super fast here, I actually checked the speed to see if it was sped up or something. It?s very upbeat and beautiful, and catchy! And that title lolol. Sara?s theme here is actually pretty upbeat and catchy here as well, and it?s pretty epic. But it just can?t match Aki here. My friend doesn?t like either but like he likes the title of MoF better here.

MS Stage 2 Theme Dimension of Reverie vs MoF Stage 2 Theme Road of the Apotropaic God ~ Dark Road-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Holy. Crap. MS here was fast paced and pretty lively here, and just all around epic. And at 0:54.. holy crap. HOLY CRAP. VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL AND EPIC PART THERE. Just for that part I really want to give this a 12, but I know that?s pretty unreasonable. MoF doesn?t even come close. I mean yeah it?s pretty fast paced and playful, pretty beautiful as well but it just can?t compete here.

Spiritual Heaven vs Dark Side of Fate-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Oh man, I really like Luize?s theme here. It?s pretty epic and beautiful here, while still being upbeat. Feels very short and simple, but pretty. I also really like 0:47 in Luize?s theme here. On the other hand, Hina?s theme has this build up at the beginning and it kinda develops into this playful/eerie melody, but it just kinda.. feels bland.

MS Stage 3 Theme Romantic Children vs MoF Stage 3 Theme The Gensokyo the Gods Loved-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Holy crap. Deciding which one was better between the 2 was veryyyyyyy hard. But? 1/1000 of a millimeter edge to MS here. I absolutely love that intro of MS there. Then it just develops into this very pretty, beautiful, and serene melody. Then at 0:35? oh my god. That was such an epic and moving part there. MoF here was AMAZING too! It is such a majestic and upbeat here while also being serene and beautiful. I feel like it gives such an amazing feeling of hope. From 0:41 to 0:55 was a very amazing part and the part after that was just amazing. My friend actually preferred MoF here and I was like what? I preferred the PC-98 Theme and he preferred the Windows one? But he changed his mind. We? we have to give it to MS. MoF just doesn?t have that? moving feeling to it. Again, they?re both SO CLOSE TO A 12, but just barely miss that mark.

Plastic Mind vs The Kappa of Akutagawa Ryuunosuke ~ Candid Friend-MoF 1 point

Takes on it-I really like Nitori?s theme. The little cool beginning part of it was awesome and the rest of the song was beautiful. It felt really pretty and.. loving? Do you get what I mean? I also feel like it?s.. kinda sad in a way. Very faint, but it?s there. Anyways, I really like the melody and beat in it. And the part at 0:41 mmm. Alice?s theme on the other hand has a lot more tension in it and is quite epic if I must say so myself. It has a hint of creepiness and oddness throughout the song. It?s also quite sad. The part at 0:41 and onward is really good. But we?re giving it to Nitori here.

MS Stage 4 Theme Stage 4 Theme Maple Wise vs MoF Stage 4 Theme Fall of Fall ~ Autumnal Waterfall-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Oh maaan. I really love that intro of MS here. The whole theme just feels so freakin? epic and 31 seconds in? It?s quite beautiful as well but it?s just so epic. But we also really liked MoF here. It was a very sharp contrast as it felt pretty calming and serene here. And at the part at 0:50.. but it didn?t really feel like a stage 4 theme. A stage 4 theme should be something foreboding since it?s probably where you?re going to get your ass beat. We gave it to MS here.

The Youkai Mountain ~ Mysterious Mountain vs Forbidden Magic-MoF 1 point

Takes on it-Verrrrrrrry close here. But we give it to Aya here. Her theme is just so beautiful and upbeat and catchy at the same time. Then at 0:50-1:18, verrrrrrry awesome part there. However, Yuki and Mai?s theme was very good as well. That intro was awesome and it was just so beautiful, magical, and serene. The parts at 0:48 and 1:12 are good, but Aya outpaced them here.

The Youkai Mountain ~ Mysterious Mountain vs Crimson Maiden ~ Crimson Dead!!-Drawin 0.75 to MoF and 0.25 to MS

Takes on it-Oh man, Yuki?s theme just represents so much rage and tension here. A very epic and atmospheric theme. However, I do still prefer Aya?s theme here as there isn?t really a part that just.. stands out in Yuki?s theme. However, my friend does prefer MS here because of how intense it feels.

The Youkai Mountain ~ Mysterious Mountain vs Treacherous Maiden ~ Judas Kiss-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Oh maaaaan. I can just tell from the title that Mai betrays someone here. The first 5-6 seconds were just awesome and the stop was cool too. The whole theme is very epic, intense, and it actually feels pretty treacherous. The parts at 0:30 and 0:55 are pretty awesome. We feel like it?s another one of those themes that are just so close to a 12 but not quite. Aya held it?s own here against all 3 themes, but looks like Mai froze Aya solid.

MS Stage 5 Theme The Last Judgement vs MoF Stage 5 Theme The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Watched-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Holy crap that intro of MS is so awesome. The whole fucking theme is just so.. beautiful, majestic, noble, and just friggin? badass. 0:24 onward is just pure epicness. MoF does sound really beautiful, serene, and grand but it just can?t compare here.

Doll?s Story ~ Doll of Misery vs Faith is for the Transient People-MS 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-Oh. My. Shinki. You know, when my friend wasn?t feeling well to continue the comparisons, I reviewed the themes real quick and I heard the intro of Yumeko?s theme. I laughed, laughed like Makai. There was no way MoF or Sanae was going to win here, not even close. That fucking intro is just so goddamn good, and the rest of the song is just pure.. pure awesome and epicness and beautifulness and catchiness and epicness and awesomeness and did I say epicness? Sanae?s theme is good and all, has that sorta epic and melancholy feel in it, but how the hell does she even stand a chance against the sword throwing maid Yumeko? My friend was so confident in Yumeko winning he felt he didn?t even need to listen to the themes. That?s how good it is.

MS Stage 6 Theme End of the World ~ World?s End vs MoF Stage 6 Theme Cemetery of Onbashira ~ Grave of Being-MS 1 point

Takes on it-Oh my Shinki. MS?s theme here is so freakin? foreboding, it really gives a feeling of the end of the world. Lots of tension in it, very beautiful theme as well. That intro was just amazing. I really 0:21 here. MoF?s theme here is tension filled and beautiful as well, but it just cannot stand up to the sheer force of MS here.

Legendary Illusion ~ Infinite Being vs The Venerable Ancient Battlefield ~ Suwa Foughten Field-MS 12 rating 2 points

Takes on it-It?s not Oh my Kanako anymore, it?s Oh my Shinki! Makai yeah! That fucking intro of MS though, really gives you the chills. The melody after is just so intense and tension filled and beautiful. Very grand. It feels like a last stand against the destruction of the world. 1:14 onward is just pure beauty and epicness. Oh my god 2:03 holy shit holy shit oh my god 2:16 oh my Shinki oh my Shinki stahhhp killing MoF So badlyyyyyy. Kanako has some good parts at 1:28 and 1:50 but it?s not even a contest who wins here. All hail Shinki!

MS Extra Stage Theme Alice in Wonderland vs Tomorrow is (?), Yesterday is (?) (there?s some translation arguments)-MS 12 rating 2 point

Takes on it-Oh my Shinki. That intro is just pure beauty. So melancholy and sad? but at the same time emotionless and apathetic. The parts at 0:53 and 1:48 are just.. amazing. There?s a lot of tension in this theme. But it?s just such an amazing theme. MoF here sounds bland in return and doesn?t even come close to challenging MS. It definitely deserves a 12 here.

The Grimoire of Alice vs Native Faith-MoF 1 point

Takes on it-Alice?s theme here is really epic, final bosslike, awesome, it would?ve definitely won if it didn?t repeat that Legend of Zelda tune every 2 seconds. Oh yeah there?s a really cool part at 0:30, but after that it just keeps on repeating that. Suwako?s them on the other hand is upbeat, fun, fast paced, beautiful, and less repetitive. It?s not exactly a 12, but MoF certainly wins this one.

Takes on it-Oh my. MS has a very, very beautiful theme here. Especially at 0:12. It actually doesn?t really feel that sad, more, apathetic. You failed and nothing got done, nothing?s changed. It almost encourages you to do better. MoF here is very calming and beautiful, but it just can?t match the weight of MS here.

Takes on it-MoF?s theme is really foreboding I feel here. Perhaps to warn us of the Moriya Shrine?s conspiracies? 0:31-0:33 and onward is a very beautiful part here though, and I love the rain background noises. The intro of MS is just soooo good here though. I don?t really like the part after the intro but at 0:26-0:30 that part doeeee. 0:50 that part was just friggin? amazing. We draw it.

Conclusion: Oh god, please don't get angry at me MoF fans. Never in a million years would I have thought a comparison would be THIS one sided! Never! 17.75 to 6.25! How does that even happen? MS fucking destroyed MoF here SOOOOOO BADLY. Almost every friggin? theme was very close to a 12, and the themes that were 12?s were like 20?s. Yumeko?s theme, Shinki?s theme, Alice in Wonderland, Dimension of Reverie, Romantic Children, Mai?s theme, End of The World ~ World?s End, holy fucking shit. MS was waaaay too ruthless with MoF. I mean.. MoF had some pretty good themes likeee Romantic Fall? Aya?s theme? ermm.. Suwako?s theme.. but hot damn. Mystic Square just absolutely? oh my.. god? The residents of Makai fucking killed the goddesses here. But it was also one of the funniest comparisons ever. I laughed like hell when I compared Yumeko?s theme and it was just really funny to see all the MS wins.
