>Compassion is one of the three treasures of the Tao. However, this becomes somewhat less obvious because Taoism also emphasizes the idea of neutrality and moving above seeing things as good and bad or strong and weak, and merging the two ideas becomes somewhat less obvious.

>Very arguably, aristocracy is the natural state of things as gods were born to watch over the heavens, so too were nobility born to look over their lessers. However, this does not prevent any person from understanding the tao, so it can be argued that such is meaningless. Given your lineage and history, those kinds of arguments strike you as dangerously egalitarian. So, really it depends on who you ask. It is unquestionable that one should accept their station of birth though, as that is the natural way of things.

>"It is simple," she says. "The Tao shows us the illusion of simple morality. To be neutral is to understand that good and evil are mere labels. To understand things, we must then look to the whole rather than parts, and understand how each fits in. The jewel of compassion is doing just that, without worrying about simple labels, as long as things are brought in line with the Tao."
