>Take a step back, then shift in the direction of Hakurouken, keeping Roukanken interposed between the two of us defensively. Try to move before she can move to block our path, but take enough time so that we don't expose ourselves too openly

>You step back, and both of you recover your stances.  You shift toward Hakurouken, and she does the same, holding her sword like before but turned upward.. You definitely close in on it faster than she can, which prompts her to slash upward at your chest.

>If we step away from this attack, will that let her reach our sword first? If it possible to step away in a direction that is still closer to our sword than she is now?
>Is her attack direct enough that it would be difficult to turn it slightly aside with Roukanken while continuing to move?

>It will definitely let her gain ground you have taken from her. If you move toward your fallen sword, you'll be walking into the attack.
You would need both hands, and your left hand definitely makes it a matter of luck.

>You move away from the oni's attack, then move back in as her blade passes. Then it turns, reversing direction with astounding skill and coming toward your head!

>You duck and move your sword to deflect hers. It is like hitting a brick wall, but you knock it slightly off course and it sails overhead.

>Do we think we have enough of an opening to scramble for our fallen sword now, without receiving another nasty attack before we reach it?

>Maybe. She is swinging away from Hakurouken now. On the other hand, you are in a crouch, which is not a great take-off position.

>It really isn't, you could try anyways, but it leaves you vulnerable to possibly counterattack or disarming.

>Then just dash for our sword
>But try to bring Roukanken back around into a useful defensive position as we do so

>You dash for the sword! In the back of your head, you suspect she could pull another flawless reversal on you and strike you directly in the back, but this does not seem to happen. Instead, you hear her chase after you.

> Does a duel count as over if we are separated from both swords?

>That's a point of contention, really. Some argue that disarming is akin to defeat, and in more polite settings this tends to be the rule. Others argue you aren't beaten until you're beaten, and a sufficiently clever person could still pull a win from such a reversal of fortune. From what you've experienced, you're sure than the latter rule holds here.

>Otherwise pick up our fallen weapon as fast as we can, then turn back around in a defensive stance

>You glance back, and see she is poised to slash you across the back as soon as she catches up to you.
>Skidding to a halt and crashing against the railing, you grab your weapon and turn to face your opponent, barely feeling it in your numbed hand. You aren't even sure if you have a proper hold on it. You have just enough time to register the oni closing in before her sword descends to chop you from shoulder to hip.

>Sidestep away from the blade and try to get open ground behind us again, in whichever direct provides the easiest escape
>Use Roukanken to parry only if we have to, and with as little direct force as we can manage. Try to move away from it instead
>And double-check that our grip on Hakurouken seems correct. We don't want to try anything fancy with it unless we're sure we've got a proper handle on it

>You move with the strike, only barely outspeeding it as the oni has to slow her attack to keep from hitting the railing, and circle around, the city at your back.
>You glance down, and your grip seems good enough. The numbness is giving way to a fierce, throbbing ache.

>Ready Roukanken for a lateral slash, and make it as soon as the oni is just coming into range, but immediately pull our blade back from any defensive contact with her own and sidestep quickly in the same motion, reversing the direction of our blade to make a quick thrust at her torso from the opposite direction

>You move in toward the oni, then feint and back away as she slashes at you. You then move in and thrust. Even as you redirect your attack, her blade is already changing direction with nigh-perfect precision, moving to cut you through the hips. Your blade races against hers.  And it wins, just by a hair, Roukanken bites deeply into her stomach, and it is too much. Her sword falls, very nearly cutting into your legs, and she falls to her knees.
>"Knew...I should've been...harder to start," she groans, as she braces herself against the ground with her hands.

>"You're too damned fast," she says, between breaths. She reclaims her sword, then grabs the railing and pulls herself to her feet.
