>You still have it on your person.

>"I do. I did some research after that, and I think I've found a way to divine some information from the gem." she informs you as she accepts her glass from Reisen.
>"Did you two want anything while I'm on my feet?" Reisen asks you and Sanae.

>"I've missed something else cool, haven't I?" Sanae asks enthusiastically.

>While Patchouli gets set up, relate the basics of our first meeting with Giada to Sanae

>As you recount the tale of your initial encounter with the someone odd miko of the Tortoise shrine, Reisen brings another table out from Patchy's room, this one a smaller wooden affair, and then follows it with a purple-covered book and a fist-sized chunk of salt.
>"So this snake eyed shrine maiden just gave you a piece of jade?" Sanae remarks as you finish your tale. "There's something that don't happen every day."

>"I've met some youkai that were a bit out there." Sanae says as Patchouli slowly pulls herself to her feet. "Maybe she was just one of those?"

>"I guess she couldn't be too out there, yeah. Not if she was a miko."
>"Shrine maidens can be as unique and idiosyncratic as the rest of us." Reisen says from the kitchen as she fills another glass with water. "And sometimes as daring."
>"I assume that last part was directed at me, Reisen." Patchouli mutters as she opens her book.
>"Yes. You know how your parents feel about you casting even minor cantrips, let alone in front of people."
>"I am growing increasingly disinterested in what they desire." the mage says as she accepts the water from Reisen. There is a dark look in her eyes. "And growing more interested in aiding those whose opinions do matter to me. People like Byakuren here, and Sanae too."

>Give her an encouraging smile

>Patchouli actually returns your smile, though hers isn't quite as encouraging or comforting as yours. Rather, ambitious. "Thank you. But, not just for your sake, Byakuren." The purple haired mage pours the water into a bowl on the table. "There's a world of magic out there just waiting for me. I should have been a part of it years ago.  Everything starts somewhere, and I can think of far worse places to start." She pulls a strand of her hair back behind her ear and adds, "And if I rend aid to an acquaintance of mine in the process, there is no harm in that."

>"Quite the opposite, I think."
>Let's see what she can do

>Sanae nods. "Just makes a good thing better. Go for it, girl." she eggs Patchy on, a surprisingly eager look in her eyes.
>Patchy breaks off a chunk of salt from the cube on the table and dissolves it in the bowl of water. "In the deeps are secrets, old and new. " she intones after glancing at her book. "Let salt and water bring one to view." Patchy takes the piece of jade and places it in the bowl of water, which starts to glow ever so faintly.
>Hyozan, who had been padding his way quietly around the kotatsu towards you, stops and sniffs the air, and emits a quiet whine, sounding to your ear like a sound of worry. Heedless of this, Patchouli continues, "Stone of green and mystery, show your secrets now to me."
>The walnut-sized piece of jade flashes with a green light, and you feel a very faint wave of power emanate from it. And then following it immediately is a massive surge of formless power, like the blast wave of a bomb. The power is beyond anything that you have encountered so far, even beyond that of the Champions. So great and so sudden is the power swell that it nearly overwhelms your mystic senses. And you are not alone in detecting this wave. Reisen's red eyes widen in horror and then she closes and covers them desperately. Sanae stiffens in her seat, like a deer in the headlights. Hyozan barks angrily, the hackles on his neck standing on edge. And Patchouli, the mage who seems to have unleashed this wave, faints, dropping to the floor like a sack of grain.
>And in your mind, you hear Rin's voice scream, What was that?!

>I don't know! Patchouli tried to cast a divination on the piece of jade Giada gave me, and then there was a sudden surge of power.
>Nothing physical in the room seems to have changed as a result of this power, does it?
>Is there any part of it we can see or otherwise detect with our more mundane senses?
>Is the power continuing to emanate, or does it seem like it was a singular burst that has since ended?

>Correct. Unless you count the living physical things.
>Negative.
>The latter. The blast has come and gone.

>Whatever she did, made everyone out here jump, too. Rin informs you as you take in the sights of the people around you. Sanae still appears shaken, but is pulling herself together. She answers you with an "Uh huh."
>Reisen uncovers her eyes slowly. "What in the hells was that? Patchy!" she screams as she sees the fallen mage, running to her side. "Patchy, are you okay?"
>The purple haired magus mumbles as Reisen cradles her head in her lap. "Stop shouting." she mutters as you approach as well. "I can hear you." Reisen heaves a hugh sigh of relief, her ears dropping along with the rest of her body.

>"Urgh, maybe." she groans as she straightens up. "The spell worked this time. But what I sensed...." The mage locks her eyes on you. "Byakuren, I don't know know if that miko made that jade or enchanted it or if she got it from somewhere else, but that jade was touched by something extremely powerful. And I do emphasize, extremely."
