Copy Kitty - Do you like blowing up robots?
« on: December 07, 2014, 11:05:20 AM »

In the likely case you haven't heard of this game before:

Do you like fast-paced action platformers? Do you like pretty explosions? Do you like crystal-footed cats?

If so, you should definitely check this game out, the regular version is FREE!

WATCH THE TRAILER

Copy Kitty is a fun and visually impressive 2D jump-and-shoot game for the PC, the debut of 2-man indie group Entanma Project. You play as Boki, a kitten fighting armies of robots in a virtual reality. Not only can you, as the name of the game implies, copy the abilities of defeated enemies, but you can then combine up to three of them to generate entirely new powers, for over 200 actual weapons and powerups.

You can either complete individual stages and boss-battles in Mission Mode, or fight a neverending stream of enemies on the everchanging terrain of the roguelike-ish Endless Mode.

Mission Mode includes the fully functional level editor to make your own stages with and share them with others, as well as a very challenging hard mode for all the missions, including revamped boss battles. The game has been out for a few years now and continues to receive big updates to this day (version 1.8 is from the 1st of December)!

So, the game is already wicked awesome like this, but it gets better! If you actually buy the Turbo edition, you get to play as Savant, a character with a quite different gameplay and a whole new set of powers and power combinations!

So yeah. If you haven't played it yet, go download the free version and see for yourself! And if you like it, support the game on Steam Greenlight!
Old Danmakufu stuff can be found here!

I watched the raocow LPs and yeah, this game is awesome. The levels are hit-or-miss, the main selling point is definitely the wicked cool weapon combos.

I've seen raocow play a bunch of this, and it looks fun, but... they really need to hire an artist or something.

The trial's download link doesn't appear to be yielding more than an empty .zip.

EDIT:  I don't claim to understand why it wouldn't let itself be saved to my computer, but I've gotten it out of the metaphorical box now...

Does this game have controller support, or is it strictly keyboard only?

Either way, I pray this gets Greenlit. It looks like a fun mashup of Magicmaker and A Valley Without Wind.

Yep
I...May or may not remember some of this. Now I feel like downloading and firing up Danmakufu. :V

So I played a bit of Copy Kitty the other day...Is there a reason why Boki can't run and shoot at the same time? You'd think a cat would be a little more agile than that. >_>;; I'm also having a hard time on the first level with a giant robot you can ride in. Any advice on how to get better at this game?

Afaik it does (never played it with controller), but if it doesn't recognize the particular controller you are using, I guess there is always Joy2Key.

The best way to help it getting Greenlit is to spread it around in other communities you frequent, honestly. Or twitter, what have you. Considering they are indie, and that raocow (who usually only gets a few thousand views on his videos) is about the biggest publicity boost the game ever got... yeah, they can use the help.

From my experience, getting better relies a lot on using the dodge-roll and the kick effectively to avoid getting hit. The dodge-roll turns you invincible for a very short time during it, and the kick can destroy (or even reflect, if you hit very well) projectiles. Other than that, trying out different weapon combinations to figure out which ones you are most comfortable with, and which ones are good for a given situation.

What part of Really Big Robots were you having trouble with, exactly? I assume the initial big one?

Yes, that one. It takes forever to kill if you waste your Force(?) ammo, and I stupidly got it exploded during the enemy portion. Not to mention dodging the shots was also kind of a pain...Though I attribute that more to me fighting the controls more than the boss being actually hard. Note to self: remap controls once I get back to playing this game.

...ho boy.

Apparently there is currently a humble-esque bundle of games that as of yet haven't been able to make it through Steam Greenlight yet, where you can pay 1$ or more. Guess what's in it!  :o

A few of the other games look potentially fun, too. Hmmmm...
