Uh.... so how about that Persona Q?

So, this is my first time starting a topic about a game since I'm not that openly talkative on here, but I want to try at least raise awareness about this game.

So, long story short Persona Q is coming out November 25 2014 and I'm trying to hide my excitement since it's coming for the 3DS which will mark my first Persona game since playing Shin Megami Tensei:  Imagine which I think some of you know as that MMORPG that Aeria games had before Atlus took it back and then the English server got shut down because of lack of business or something like that don't quote me on why it got shut down, but let's get to the meat and potatoes of this topic.

Persona Q is basically Persona 3 and 4 characters crossed over with the Etrian Odyssey series, which let's you take routes like in every Persona game that comes with a whatever choices you pick effect events and stuff aspect, but is added with the twist of Etrain Odyssey's system of drawing your own maps and having the battle system from the game while also throwing in your Persona fusions, social links, and of course don't forget the stories and the characters. Apparently from what I read in the description the game totals 80 to 100 hours worth of gameplay (I guess because of the routes).

So, if you're pre-ordering this game today or whenever before the deadline release you get  11 Persona tarot cards for it.

The Japanese release had full Japanese and English audio.

The Western release had all the Japanese audio removed except for the battle voices.

Huh. I guess I'm used to that from Atlus (isn't that how Persona 3 and Persona 4 worked?) so I didn't notice.

Nah, P3 and P4 were single-language only, so it makes some sense that they didn't want to program in dual audio.  I think it's lazy considering NISA does it all the time, but whatever.

I would want to pre-order if it wasn't for the fact that I want to get SSB4 3DS too... ugh well even if I DID get them both my aunt and I made a deal that I can get both games, but I can play them on Christmas which hurts.... oh well at least I get some pretty cards out of the deal.

Atlus has been doing everything they can to cripple our copies to deny reverse importing. P4U still has the distinction of being the first PS3 game to be region locked, and between P4UA not having the story mode in Japanese (or compatible with JP netplay IIRC), and PQ doing the same thing, I'm REALLY pissed :S. I fully expect P5 to be crippled just the same way because we're dirty filthy gaijin.

I'm curious how much this is going to take from Persona vs how much it's going to take from EO, especially in terms of difficulty.

Also FOEs, I know there's FOEs.

Point is I'm fairly hyped for this but trying to contain that optimism.  (Besides it's a month and a half away and I've still got like four more games coming out between then and now)

Which games did you play? I didn't really like EO until I played the 3DS versions, and I had a blast with them.

I assume there are auto-mapping options for walls and floors, like in EO Untold. So I don't think you'll have a huge problem there.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that you can mix and match a party of P3/P4 characters yet. Seeing the two MCs interact is gonna be amusing too. I personally am gonna stick with the P4 team for as long as I can, since I have a stronger preference for them.

Also, sidequests. Those should be fun =3

Speeeeeeeeeeaking of EO I should get back to playing EO staring my friends and me, but... I'm embarrassed to confess this but, I'm still on the first Stratum and lack funds.

Good news though, I have now the funds to be able to pre-order Persona Q.

Mini-rant/infodump incoming: I imported this on release and was slightly disappointed at the not-EOness of the game(stopped around stratum 4). Spoilers ahead, etc.

Bad:

-No skill trees. I can understand why, but still. It's skills by level, Persona style. Higher level skills (agi->agilao) replace the previous. Characters only learn a maximum of 4 naturally learned skills.
-With no skill trees, team synergy is less of a thing. There aren't really any interesting passives or "builds" in general, so just throw together a team of characters and go ham. Skill cards allow characters to fill almost any role, though their stats may not be as good as the "real deal". Might be a plus to some.
-Some strange balance choices as far as I can see? ex. I chose P3 MC and noticed that he seems inferior to P4 MC in almost every way. He has TWO weaknesses, no strengths, meh defense, excels in magic, but uses a close range weapon so you basically have to put him in the front row if you want his melee persona attacks to do any damage. Meanwhile, P4MC has one null element, one str element, and one weakness, and has more well rounded stats.

Good:

-P3/P4 fanservice delivers. If you like P3/P4's characters then you will like this game.
-NO MORE ONE MORE SYSTEM THANK YOU BASED EO TEAM. New system is hit weakpoint -> get boost status. Boost status is removed if you get hit before your turn. If you make it to the next turn in boost, your next action will always go first and cost 0 HP/SP.

-All characters can equip one sub persona along with their main, which is locked. The sub persona adds to their HP/SP and move pool, and refreshes every fight. Ideally you only want to use resources within the sub persona pool unless it's a hard fight.
-Skill cards are a thing. I didn't play P4G for very long, but the way it works in this game is you sacrifice a persona and money to gain a skill card(skill depends on the persona). The skill card can be used for adding a permanent skill to a party member's main persona, which each have 4 skill slots along with their 4 natural skill slots.
-Leader skills(or as I like to call them, navigator skills) are skills personas have that can only be used by the navigator character. They're basically EO3 bursts that use a universal bar, and can be activated at the start of a turn. Ideally you'll want the navigator's sub persona to only have these skills, since they don't actually participate in combat.
-Massive SP costs. The -dyne spells cost something like 48SP, and my SP pools were around the 120-160 range in stratum 4.

tl;dr combat-wise, I feel like it's a gimped EO, but still better than P3/P4.

STORY JUNK

-If you like social links, prepare to be disappointed, because social links don't exist in this game. There are scenes involving a bunch of characters, etc. but no Persona-esque stuff that actually affects combat/personas.
-As far as I've heard, the "routes" are essentially the same. The main difference I've seen is what characters you have access to in stratum 1, otherwise the choice is basically just "who do you want to be mute".

There are like a zillion difficulties, so it's very unlikely that you'll be forced into using a certain team unless you play the hardest one. For example, on Normal my team was P3MC/Akihiko/OCsdonotsteal Koro/Aigis with Fuuka assist. I've never needed to sub in a dedicated healer due to subpersona move pools/Fuuka healing burst ability. OCs do not steal is also the jack of all trades character, they have attacks with most of the basic elements, attack/defense line buffs, and a line heal. They can't use subpersonas or skill cards though.
