>That may be true, but presumably Kiku would also have much less to gain that she has not already spent many years practicing. This may be more for the rest of us than her.

>To Haruka: "That is an interesting offer, and I have certainly appreciated your aid already today. Did you have something specific in mind?"

>To Haruka: "That is an interesting offer, and I have certainly appreciated your aid already today. Did you have something specific in mind?"

>True. Unless she wants to practice her new powers.

>"Now that we know more about our enemy, I plan to adjust our training to accommodate combat against youma. And now that I know we have you, who can do more than simply destroy them, I intend to focus my Sisters more on containing and disabling a youma if they encounter one, whenever possible."
>"Speaking of containing." Chisato interrupts her big sister, hovering in the air above. "I hate to interrupt, Haruka-sama, but either of you have any idea why the Air demon would take off like that, instead of having it out with the rest of us?"

>"In our previous encounters, it also seemed to prefer to leave the fighting to its youma, and withdrew after they were defeated. This appears to be a favored tactic; I cannot say if this is because its direct combat abilities are significantly below those of its kin, or it simply prefers not to dirty itself directly."

>"Both could be true." says Haruka. "Or neither. I divined a great deal of power from that demon, but power doesn't always equate to combat prowess."
>"It doesn't?" Lillian asks, blinking in confusion.
>"Hardly. But either way, I was a bit relieved to see it fly off. The situation would only have been made worse if it got involved. There'll be a next time, I am sure of that."
>"And that is what I mean to prepare us for." she adds, returning her attention to you and White Rose. "I teach my Sisters how to combat a wide variety of opponents. Those that are physical powerhouses, those who attack from afar, those who strike in less conventional means. I speak from experience when I say that youma can take a great range of forms, depending on the person making them. And we have potentially five demons making them. I want my people to be ready to face a youma in any form it comes in, and I believe we can help you both with that as well. In addition, if we both chose to operate independently of each other, there's every chance we would end up fighting alongside each other anyway. It would be better to have a level of coordination and camaraderie between you and your forces and ours."

>"I'll need to consult with my temple head before setting anything down in stone. And she, I believe, will want to consult with the other three temple heads about how to handle this invasion. That won't take place until tomorrow morning."
>"Why tomorrow?" Lillian asks her.
>"Because Satori-sama won't be available until tomorrow. And she will be at the meeting tomorrow, mark my words." she adds, a note of determination in her resonant voice.

>Hey, that sounds good for us. Rin says silently. If Satori's gonna be at one of the other shrines tomorrow for sure, I mean.

>Just because Haruka intends it does not mean it will necessarily happen. Nor can we be entirely sure of the time.
>"I apologize if I am prying into internal affairs, but you sound almost as though you anticipate some difficulty with this?"

>"I apologize if I am prying into internal affairs, but you sound almost as though you anticipate some difficulty with this?"

>Yeah, that's true. Rin concedes.

>Haruka folds her wings in. "A little. The head of the Metal Tiger shrine, Satori-sama, can be somewhat reluctant to leave her shrine save when she needs to."
>"We see a lot more of Kiku than her." Chisato adds. "That's her second in command, Kiku. I still don't know why the chiefs promoted Satori-sama ahead of her."
>"I'm sure they had their reasons for changing their plans." Haruka says quietly. "But this incident is on a level of magnitude beyond which we normally deal. Satori-sama is the head of her shrine, so she will be there."

>"I can put you in touch with a good landlord." Chisato offers, then chuckles at her own joke.

>"Well, at least you know where to find us." Haruka says.
>"Can I ask you something, Haruka-san?" White Rose asks the big youkai.
>"Of course."
>"Why didn't you and the others with you join the fight? I saw you standin' outside that door, watching."
>"Ah, that." the golden eagle says with a smile. "You may have been wondering that yourself, Magical Lotus?"

>"In retrospect, I suppose yes. I fear I was somewhat preoccupied at the time."

>Next time, buy a tent with some windows.

>"Mostly, I was giving you a chance." she explains. "You claimed to be able to purify a youma, but the best any of the rest of us could do would be destroy it. I wanted to give you every chance I could do that without risking killing the youma. That's why I kept Chisato and the officers out of the fight."
>"That, and the aforementioned lack of coordination would only have made things worse had five more people got involved in the fight. It would have been chaos. I estimated that if all nine of us got involved, there was as good a chance at one of us hitting another with a stray spell or blaster bolt as there was hitting the youma. Of course I was ready to jump in if I saw the need, which I have to admit I nearly did when I saw you charge the youma instead of shooting it. But that proved to be unnecessary."

>As Haruka nods solemnly, the female police officer stands up from her crouch in front of the fallen horse. "Yes they have." she says, her voice very thick. She bows deeply to you. "Thank you... so much."

>Correct. Neither she nor the man who had been attending her nor the Blue Dragon miko Giada is anywhere to be seen. You don't see Komachi or the other officer either, but you can hear their voices coming from the stables. They appear to be attending to the other horses within.

>"Well, in the past, the youma I have encountered were made from objects that bore a great deal of significance to someone; there was an engagement ring that was rejected painfully, a piece of jewelry gifted from one to another and treasured... I suspect that means Majesty is quite dear to at least one person as well? However, given she's also a living thing, perhaps there is more to it than that? I didn't have as much time as I wanted to try and understand the youma, things were too hectic. I assume the two of you are close?"

>"She was the first horse born after I transfered into this city. I was lucky enough to be there. The stable hands knew I was a horse lover, so they gave me the honor of naming her." She looks down at the horse, smiling fondly. "Of course I care about every horse I work with, but I'd be lying if I said Majesty wasn't special to me."

>The officer then looks to Haruka, but the big youkai only shakes her head. "I don't know any more myself. There's never been a case of something or someone being turned twice, but that's only because nothing survived the first time. Before Magical Lotus came along, I mean. Every youma created during the Lunarian war was either destroyed during the war or dissolved at the end. But I agree with Lotus, I don't think they'll be back. It would just be bad tactics."
