Latest game from Aquastyle
« on: June 04, 2014, 04:46:50 AM »
So I was looking at stuff at pixiv to find new portraits to use for Touhou Labyrinth when I saw a banner with a familiar name on it.
From there, I eventually got to this video.
Redirector here if needed.

So from what I get, a Mysterious Gensoukyo 3 standalone side game staring Mononobe was made. They just keep making those. aren't they? ^^
Also, Nito-fusion? Ummm...
The game is already out, there is even a Let's Play of it in Japanese in case you would be curious.
Edit This game has some furigana? How convenient! ^^

I want to play these so bad but they are just too much of a drag when you don't understand the text qq.
If I magically learned japanese instantly, This series would be among the first games I play.

I wish I could play this too. Darn language barrier.

I can't help but feel sad when I see people not playing games due to the language barrier.  :(
Anyway, if anyone if feeling really adventurous, I have seen the game on sale online on the melon books DL website.

I would like to know it just like that too but I am instead learning it the slow way, looking up kanjis and words one by one.

I want to play a rougelike so bad, but can't find any good ones. This series looks amazing but, I am also restrained by the language barrier. I heard that someone was planning on translating the first one, but had to stop due to irl stuff.

Oh god I was just watching the video and I think I saw Patchouli use self destruct.

Nah the translation didnt stop cuz irl issues, it stopped for technical "gosh we tried and tried and dont know how to work around the fact that ____" issues.
I cant remember what it was exactly, text was too limiting using roman characters? I forget.

Text was way too big. Changing it would require modifying compiled LUA files, which is a massive pain.

I think someone else started working on it much later and got farther, but stopped for some reason.

Language barrier have always been an issue for me. I've missed several untranslated RPG's because of it, despite how much I wanted to play them.

I've already had trouble to learn English as my second language (the first one being Portuguese). Learning Japanese as my third one would be far more difficult.

Sweetness and love~ ♥

I only recently knew these games were a thing from the last one, I remember seeing boxart for the second one IIRC but never got past that since I had no idea how to look it up (being Japanese and all). I love me a good rouge like and love that I'm seeing more Touhou fan games having voice acting, but that scream from Futo is just sad (and slightly funny???).

Even if you do understand the language, this game still needs extreme planning, strategy and luck. It's great that it's challenging, but I sure can use less of the latter.
Even with Lv 99, final form equipments (though not fully upgraded with pluses and skill gems), you can still get your ass kicked easily.
I still haven't started FnG 3, since I haven't even gone halfway on the Gold Experience version of Miracle Party.
But yeah, Nitori-fusion in the third is a godsend.

By the way, anyone played Bullet Report here? That side-scrolling Aya game?
Did anyone complete all the achievements? I still have 7 left, 4 of which I have no idea about the requirements.

Here's the thing... Roguelikes tend to make people say exactly what you just did even if they do not require luck. I mean luck certainly helps, but I find nearly every roguelike that people exclaim "omg so unfair you need to be lucky in order to ____" with CAN actually be beat MORE often than not by a vet/pro. Even if they don't, even if a pro can only win 20% of the time, that's still a fine level of fair for a roguelike imo.

Now of course you may be right, it's very well possible that this game is particularly luck-dependant. I honestly don't know, but any roguelike fan can probably agree with me that this is just something each player has to decide for themselves, and not really take anyone else's word for it. I mean even Touhou labyrinth have people qq that the game requires far too much grinding from start to finish (not just 20f and 30f), when it's quite simple to in fact beat the entire game with no grinding at all until floor 20, at which point you only need to grind an hour or two at most since the trash there gives you 10X the rewards, then 30f which... yeah the 30f grind is stupid, but nobody makes it to 30f without deciding the game is effing awesome.

your in luck, the first one did stop, but mostly everything is complete. i've played it myself, even the story is english. i think the only thing in japanese is some rare random chance cutscenes, and the newspapers, if you want i can link you the english patch. (newspapers just tell about random irrelevant things going on in gensokyo)

@Ghaleon im assuming you havn't played it before but its another kind of roguelike, unlike normal rougelikes it doesn't just wipe your items, it basically deletes your save file. and its ungodly hard, after only a handful of floors (if you get that far) there is already invisable enemies and enemies with quad-turn. the only way to save anything is to bank it, but you have a RARE CHANCE of being allowed to even do so. so even if you temper a item and then take it with you again, there is no guarntee you will even be able to re-bank the item.

however the game is so ungodly hard there is a interesting feature, once per floor you can 'dodge' a game over. you can restart the floor as you entered it (except for your hunger meter). so you can do that constantly to try to avoid constant BS, but naturally, your allowed to 'dodge death' once per floor for a good reason, because the game is so very very sure it can kill you once per floor. (its worth noting that because food is only 'uncommon' and your hunger meter does not restore upon dodgeing death, that hunger can also become a very serious problem, very quickly if things start going south)

Which game is that hard or is this a joke about the fake pirated versions of the game released by AQUASTYLE themselves?

no its real, its their rougelike series, altho i'm specifically speaking about their first one. and its not a anti piracy thing its just how the game is, its made to be like shiren the wanderer (the original) but harder and touhou like.

hell on the 3 and 4th floors (i believe, maybe F5/6) there is a enemy that hits you through walls destroying them and usually instantly kills you unless your overleveld via a free exp item you warehoused to bring into 1F

i believe the first game is called fushigi no gensokyo.
