The music for that game was made by like 4 different, probably completely unrelated people.

I managed to extract the DXA files containing the music, it seems that they just collected a bunch of songs and used it as the sound track for the first version, the second version seems to have been made by the developers for the game.

I wonder if you can play as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. characters on there.

I'm trying to recall a doujin about Yuuka I read a long time ago. It changed her backstory so she was a relatively normal human(?) that gained the ability to hear or talk to flowers or something. She became crazy because she would always hear flowers no matter what and went on a killing spree. Does anyone know the name of this doujin?

That'd be Tohonifun's [Yuka vs Yukari]. The doujin's title speak for itself, but the little backstory about Yuka is in there.

Has ZUN ever said anything regarding everything related to yukkuris?

And how do you translate this: 外連味フィクサー

That's the title of a remix of Sekibanki's theme, mind you.  I only know that the kanji part is "Fixer."

Thanks in advance!

And regarding 300 Heroes, I read that you cannot sue China for plagiarism.

Are all the spells in GFW capturable without freezing? I heard it's doable but pretty hard so I'm not sure.

If some of the spells are uncapturable, wouldn't that mean that the fairies are breaking the spell card rules? As only Cirno and Letty (?) would be able to freeze the bullets, Reimu and Marisa would have to bomb their way through or something.

In Slient Sinner In Blue, a character said "The Rocket is not taking it easy!" or something like that.

Yeah, I'm aware about that.  I was thinking if he said anything else and want to know if he commented on the... *gasp* abuse fandom.

Yes, they're "capturable", for some definition of capturable. As for the second thing, the bullet patterns in GFW are canonically exaggerated because they're seen from Cirno's perspective (see in-game manual).

ZUN doesn't really delve into fandoms much. I'm not even sure if he's particularly aware of yukkuri abuse existing beyond a few comics.

IIRC, "Take it easy!" was in EoSD (or at least, long before SSiB.  The wiki states it somewhere but it's been so long since I put it in the wiki that I forget where) before Yukkuris existed.  Yukkuris took "Take it easy" from Touhou, not the other way around.

I'm guessing Wine would be your best bet. Some games might glitch but I don't think there is any other way of playing them.

EDIT : Well, would you look at that.

Fairies are the playful kind, so they could tag along if they find it fun (like Orin's "zombie" fairies), or they might just simply leave (they shouldn't have some sort of attachment to some random person who just caught them anyway). They are not the smartest creatures around and are pretty curious, so getting them doing various stuff might be okay, but since they are not very diligent and tend to act on their own, they shouldn't be very reliable. The "owner"'s patience becomes relevant too, since he / she might get tired and let the fairy go away, besides, catching and releasing fairies is a thing.

Living proof here that yes, you can. I can play all the games without any issues - save for SWR but I don't care for fighting games anyway. You will need to use WINE. I use 1.7.44 and have no problems playing the oldest to the most recent.

Why is it that fans tend to say that developers have no idea about anything going on in the fandom?  It's not just for this series, mind you.  Is there actually a basis for this belief?

I'm not so sure, but I know for sure that it's often untrue for indie developers. Edmund McMillen and kupogames are two examples I can name.

In general this would just come from developers in a large company not having the perspective to be able to acknowledge fan-stuff, just by sitting isolated in some company. You also have to consider what member of a development team you're talking about, and there are many influential people not involved in direct development at all. Even then, it isn't necessarily because one person was unaware of fan-stuff, but that as an aggregate for the dev team, fan-stuff isn't known about or is ignored. Do they even want to care about "fandom"?

As said above, it's often untrue for indie developers, since the above doesn't really apply and they're usually much more receptive and involved with their audience.

However, at the level of popularity and breadth of fanmade content as Touhou, I'd think it would be difficult to follow. Moreover, for ZUN specifically, he says more often than not that he doesn't indulge too much in fanworks, even the games.

I know that some developers and writers stay away from fanworks because they're worried about legal repercussions, since if the fanwork so much as seeps into official work even subconsciously, or even if an official work happens to resemble a fanwork by pure coincidence, copyright issues can emerge so being able to say "I don't look at fanworks at all" is a good legal defense.   The director of Frozen told her fans that she specifically could not and would not look at anyones' proposed story ideas for a sequel due to that. That probably wouldn't apply to an indie developer as much though.

I guess it would depend on how they were caught. Fairies don't ask for much either (IIRC, the fairy maids in the SDM just get free room and board).

I would presume that they would enjoy simple games. I wonder if I could train one to play an FPS?

There was a novel writer who was sued because he used an idea that sounded a lot like a fan idea (I forget the name, though).

No.

As for ZUN's stance on fanworks, he's repeatedly said in interviews and stuff that he doesn't really pay any attention to it. It's not just an assumption.

Didn't he said once that there are some fanworks that he liked, but didn't give names to not be unfair to the others?

Time for outrageous levels of hair-splitting?

So, in my efforts to provide succinct interpretations of the games' main titles (to be used for stuff related to what's discussed here), I have a pretty good idea of what to use for most titles, even if some become a bit awkward. The actual problem comes from Touhou Hisouten and how it's currently translated.

緋想天 is individually just three kanji which, without context, would end up with like "red thought sky". The first, 緋, refers to a couple of things, among them being Tenshi's sword (緋想の剣) along with its color, Iku's title (美しき緋の衣), "Scarlet" Weather Rhapsody, whatever. Obviously using "scarlet" makes sense. The next, 想, refers most likely to the Buddhist term sa??a, and is usually translated as "perception". Now, the current translations for 緋想天 use "Sky of Scarlet Perception" which kind of falls flat with the last kanji. This is because these three kanji are used all over the game in various ways, all essentially referring to the same thing. First off, 緋想 is pretty much wordplay on 非想, as 緋 contains 非 (and consequently is pronounced the same). ZUN interchanges these everywhere, too (非想天 is even used in Yuyuko's final stage title). So we can look at 非想天 being the same, which ends up being a shortening of 非想非非想天 ("the heaven of not perception and not not perception"), which is a term for Bhavaagra that's also used in Tenshi's title (非想非非想天の娘). More commonly though it's called 有頂天 (wiki), which is Japan's direct translation of Bhavaagra ("the peak of existence heaven"), and that's considered to be where you fight Tenshi.

All that being said, I think it's profoundly clear 緋想天 refers exactly to 1. the "scarlet" theme, and 2. Bhavaagra. So, using "Heaven" for 天 is also the clear choice, which would make the short name for 緋想天 "Scarlet Perception Heaven". It's also worth an explanation on the wiki by itself.

Now, one problem with this is that we get the same situation as with Yuyuko's theme and Utsuho's theme, where both 緋想天 and 東方緋想天 are used as music titles, and changing them kind of screws over music title searching if you get it from the wiki. I think it's justified, but that's me.

I guess my "question" is just... "Thoughts?"

I think it sounds better when ordered as "Heaven of Scarlet Perception".

Part of me wants to translate 緋 as a different shade from EoSD's 紅, but a larger part says that would be dumb when the subtitle has "Scarlet" in English.
As for 想, the Wikipedia page on saṃj?ā (Mahayana section) describes it as noticing a specific trait of something and giving significance to it - that makes it sound like "perception" refers primarily to Tenshi's sword drawing out aspects of peoples' personalities and manifesting them as weather (which is also scarlet mist, hence "scarlet perception"), so there might be a better word for it.
