Also if you know anything about bamboos (they generally flower at decades long fixed intervals and then die; the one Sakuya used here has a 60-year interval), you know this is a quietly morbid ending.

Wow! Thanks! I didn't know where she used time acceleration, but now it's all clear xD and it seems in some of her Fighting Game Spell Cards and Skill Cards she also uses this kind of trick...

cuc, Drake and Clarste are my idols!! They're like Touhou Canon Omniscient Beings! xDDD

I have another question. It's stated in the wiki, and I also read in several other places, that the eyes inside Yukari's Gaps are the "manifestation of how desires are swirling around".

I would like to know: where does this statement comes from?

Is sm2932797 lost forever?

If I can read properly, it's モグモグフヨード's second video. I missed my chance to see it then it still was available.

Maybe I should create separate thread for that?

Mogufuyo took down all his stuff, deleted his nico account and stopped making videos a while ago. His site also stopped reference to his videos. Some of his stuff is available again from reuploads.

I remember there being a translation thread before...

Anyway, can anyone please translate for me the titles of these two vocal remixes?

雷々伝々

The second one seems to be "Thunder's Legend" or something.

Thanks in advance!

I would probably do something like

"The Great Depths the Girl Saw"
"Thunderous Legend"

I took some small liberties with those though, since more literal translations sound either dumb or nonsensical imo!

Does anyone know why on the wiki "Charming Domination" has been changed to "Youkai Domination" when the second title is an inaccurate translation? The kanji in the song title are the same as the third and fourth kanji in the game's title, and although "you" is in there, "kai" isn't (it would be romanized as "youyou bakko"), so why is it "Youkai Domination"?

Ehh... even if that's the case overall I don't agree that "youkai" is the best word to have there, especially since the translations of the same kanji used in the title of the game and the fifth stage theme are different. Youyou just doesn't equal youkai to me, it's more akin to "ghostly" as implied by the title of the game, especially since the Extra stage takes place in the Netherworld. I guess it's just a nitpick of mine, but it just feels like it's going too broad for the actual meaning of "youyou."

Then post on the talk page about it. I agree with the assessment made in the page so far, but I also am not too keen on using youkai explicitly. Using two different words in different contexts isn't a bother, though.

Personally I like the really old translation of Phantasms' Domination, because it coincidentally carries the meanings of 妖 and 妖怪 and is also a reference to the stage.

Funnily, this has made me notice the blurb in the afterword:
妖怪に始まり、あらゆる妖の者が好き勝手している世界。
Which is certainly not "The world where, starting with youkai, every possible youkai-like beings prevail", but instead should be "A world where, beginning with youkai, all kinds of mystical beings do as they please".

Is there any official information about the approximate location of Spring Path? I'm trying to figure out the route in GFW that makes the most sense geographically. It seems to make sense to start off at misty lake because that is where Cirno lives and where she found out her house (I find it a bit weird that an ice fairy lives in a house for some reason...) destroyed. But I'm not sure if she should reach the forest of magic first or spring path first  ???

The location of many areas of Gensokyo in relation to each other often aren't very well-defined. If anything, all you can say is that the Spring Path is close to the Misty Lake or the Forest of Magic or both. It's also hard to say if she would start looking near her house first, or head for the Forest of Magic, which is where the Fairies lived at the time.

This really might just be done on purpose in order to have ambiguity between which route makes the most sense. The Forest of Magic is somewhat by the Human Village, and the Misty Lake is at the base of Youkai Mountain. That's about it.

The joke with Spring Path is that even Cirno herself isn't sure why she's heading there.

If you still want a more or less definite location and are okay with a theory, here's how I've always seen it. First off, Spring Path looks like it's the same location as the Extra stage, only with a different color, which can be explained by a different time of day, and with a different name, but there are strong associations between spring and sakura. While Extra stage location isn't definitely known either, we know it's a path that Marisa took while returning from a flower viewing. And where else would a flower viewing that involves Marisa be but the Hakurei Shrine? Of course, all this is just a conjecture, but it's as good one as any could be.

Hi, reasonably new here (usually found around the garage experiments board), and i have a question about a certain song maker known as JynX
(if this doesn't fit on this board, tell me, it seemed like the right place when i was looking at each of the boards)
anyway, this guy does videos or remixed touhou games from PC-98 and makes music for them, a good example being his lotus land story video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw5DWji_X0c
anyway, the question i want to ask, i'm searching for a way to purchase the songs from the video, and I think i've found the album that they belong too, but am uncertain as I couldn't find a place to listen to enough of it to find out if the songs from that video are on it.
The album I believe they are on is this one:
http://mugenri.blog.shinobi.jp/%E6%9C%AA%E9%81%B8%E6%8A%9E/%E5%A4%8F%E8%BE%BC%E3%81%BF%E9%A0%92%E5%B8%83%E7%89%A9%E8%A9%B3%E7%B4%B0%E6%83%85%E5%A0%B1%E3%81%A0%E3%82%88%E3%82%88%E3%82%93
with the name of 現樂団の往古2 ~ 束方懐幻想郷 ~ (i think)
has anyone heard this album?, mainly interested in whether or not it includes the songs from  the video above as it is from the same guy and has remixes of the songs in question

Also, further apologies if the question is weird/written weirdly, I don't write on forums very much  :ohdear:

Something come to mind, how come all those new arrive youkai who just come in Gensokyo (to cause an incident or whatsoever) seems to generally follow the spell card system as if they new about the spell card rules beforehand?

- Another important thing I wanted to know and have some clarification about, as far as I know there no absolute reason(s) that youkai (e.g. youkai living in hell like Oni, etc.) or other entities (like Tenshi/Yamas) living outside Gensokyo have to strictly abide by the spell card rules system (or even follow it at all) and thus spare the life of the loser, etc..., isn't it?

- This mainly means that all of those till now ultimately chose to do so (like Watatsuki no Yorihime) irrespectively of the reason, isn't it?

Nobody knows for sure. Maybe the rules magically apply by default, maybe the heroines explain them to every boss that wouldn't know them, maybe they are already known beyond Gensokyo. But it's likely that whoever you are, if you're in Gensokyo they always apply fully, that's their whole point. No way to tell how much they apply in "neighbourhooding" worlds (Netherworld, Heaven, Hell, Makai), we just know they don't really apply on the moon and Yorihime just gave everyone a sporting chance.

I can understand how there might possibly be something "magical" about the spell card contract, if only because I find it VERY hard to imagine a truckton of youkai following the rules otherwise, but... it still makes it odd that Byakuren, who was fought outside of Gensokyo and was isolated from it (as well as any contact with anyone from it), used them.  Me myself, I personally just file it under the "Whatever. Just don't think about it too hard" category.

I'd guess Byakuren simply used non-lethal magic to duel (which would be in-character for her, I think). Magic that was suspiciously similar to spell cards.

But yeah, it's best not think too hard about it.

I like to think of the
Spoiler:
Rumia
fight in Rei Reimu videos where they fight legit but Reimu or the other heroine explains the way they fight now. What we see in the game could just be the latter and from a gameplay perspective the former is excluded.

妖怪に始まり、あらゆる妖の者が好き勝手している世界。
"A world where, beginning with youkai, all kinds of mystical beings do as they please".
The issue with translating 妖 as "mystical" is that the word "mystical" tends towards the positive in English, when 妖 is negative: it's seductive, morally ruinous, or at very least uncanny. I'd render the 妖の者 here as "sorcerous beings", and the general term 妖術 as "sorcery" or "sorcerous arts".

One of the problems with the term is that it doesn't seem to have a good english counterpart for any one situation. I definitely get what you're saying; I did choose "phantasm" just above but I don't think "phantasmal beings" fits here either.

In English, "uncanny" is the closest to 妖 in the ayakashi sense. Unfortunately it's also not a practical word to use in most contexts.

"Eldritch" then? It literally means "of the realm of the elves", in the old-school sense of horrifying monsters that eat children.

Ant = Ari
Fang = ga

It was a fun theory. But in truth, IN was the only one that says "ant, fang and you". In EoSD it looks like this:
Quote
Special Thanks
ant
fang
and All Test Players
and you...

In PCB:
Quote
Special Thanks
ant
fang
pbg
and all test player
and you...

Now consider the following:

-The names "ant" and "fang" appeared in the games from EoSD (2002) to IN (development period from 2003 to 2004).
-In PoFV (2005), "ant" and "fang" disappeared from the Special Thanks section, replaced by four playtesters.
-Starting from MoF (2007), the only name in the Special Thanks section has been his girlfriend and later wife, Ki-san.
-These two people are neither part of the Seihou crew (like Ponchi/pbg is) nor on the list of his doujin friends (e.g. the folks who made Uwabami Breakers).

-After graduation in 1999, ZUN had been living in Taito's Ebina dormitory. His dormitory address was actually written as contact info in the game manuals.
-He moved out of the dormitory at the end of 2004 (source: ZUN's diary).
Quote from: Diary from Dec 11, 2004
冬コミ前だ というのに引っ越しももうすぐ行います。しばらく不通になってしまうかも。

The Winter Comiket is near, however I will have to move soon. You might be unable be to contact me for a while.

It's quite reasonable to assume that ant and fang were his roommates/colleagues from the Taito dormitory, who helped playtest EoSD, PCB and IN. It'd be natural for them to never show up again afterwards.

Why is Reimu such a bit-er, i mean, ruder than she normally is in Wild and Horned Hermit? I mean, shes not normally the nicest person in canon ether, but in WaHH shes almost a outright con artist, who fails at anything having to do with her Shrine Duties, and is forced to come up with greedy scams to get followers to her shrine, and treats everyone coldly (But then again that's standard behavior for Reimu).

...O.K., maybe I'm over-exaggerating her personalty in WaHH a bit, sure, Reimu isn't exactly a saint in the other official manga and games ether*, but I'm pretty sure that anyone who compares Reimu in, say, Oriental Scared Place where she
Spoiler:
allows the three fairies to live on her shrine grounds
to her outright selfish and greedy actions in WaHH can see a bit of difference in characterization.

Does she just really hate Kasen and chooses to be a jerk around her just to spite her?
Or is it something else?

*After all, she does have a "shoot first, ask questions later" way of dealing with things.
