On top of Clarste's comment I have to point out that amanojaku are very explicitly (as in, outright stated in Seija's profile) not oni. Gensokyo's vampires are probably more like oni than amanojaku, as they have incredible strength and have yanked a few traits/weaknesses from the oni out of ZUN's whim. Talking about the relationship between the amanojaku and the oni is obviously not an issue whatsoever, but picking those in particular seems to suggest a perceived link between them when there really isn't one.

When is it Utsuho's Day?
Is it today, the 6th of June?
Or is it the 11th of November?

(Disclaimer: probably pointless. But still, I missed sixball day twice...)

<Tengukami> Hi, this is the thread for miscellaneous, one-off questions such as this. Thanks!

Amanojaku are kinda like oni (or at the very least, Seija could pass for one as long as she wasn't asked to prove it with muscle or liver strength) so on one hand they could be friendly.
How is an Amanojaku kinda like an oni? How could Seija pass as an oni? If the answers here are "She looks like an oni" then this would assume that identifying an oni is as easy as checking for horns and chains, and while these may be features of oni they are not exclusive to oni. Tokiko and Ex Keine have horns but we don't have this discussion about them. Any oni would need to be particularly dumb to judge Seija on this criteria alone.

When does the so called 3rd generation of Windows games begin? I always thought it began around GFW and TD due to the change in presentation and the way continues work as well as other changes to mechanics such as the weakening of the player character, the return of unique bombs and overall lowering of difficulty (subjective). However, the Touhou Wiki states DDC as the beginning of the 3rd generation. Does this game run on a new engine? Is it because of the higher screen resolution? Or is there something I'm missing?

The plot is unrelated to the previous games.

Happens when a person tries to use both the English patch and the original exe.
Does anyone know why this sort of thing happens?
I can try to guess that this happens because the game writes the name of the spellcard to score.dat whenever it updates its history, but I don't really know how to check this.

This is a question best asked here; this thread is about non-gameplay stuff. Just for future reference, as I don't feel like snipping this post and moving it.

I chose this thread because I was curious about why this happens rather than trying to say that something's not working.
If I posted it in the Tech Support, I don't think I would be able to get the answer I wanted.

IIRC, game engine was updated significantly starting with DS, so from a technical point of view third Windows generation starts there. However, people started recognizing it with DDC because, as mentioned earlier, it feels more fitting since its story is unrelated to previous games, compared to a pretty solid MoF-HW "religious wars" arc. Plus playable roster was rebooted.

Tech Support is actually exactly the board for those kinds of subjects, trust me on that one. This thread, and this entire board, is for fan-related stuff i.e., Miscellaneous Questions about characters, stories, abilities and such. Your question is of a technical, game-related nature and as such belongs on the game-related board, and the technical sub-board.

When will be the next Forbidden Scrollery and Wild and Horned Hermit chapters translated  ???
It seems like the translations went on hiatus; because it's been like 6 months since the last chapter of FS was translated  :( :(

Thanks to the translators for doing such an amazing act btw even if there is just (sadly) a few people who reads the Official Manga

I am the person who normally translates them.

Two chapters of FS were released a few weeks ago. I just didn't really announce it. You can find them on the Touhouwiki. There are also some "rough drafts" floating around the internet, up to the second-to-latest chapter. The releases have been delayed recently because some of the people involved are busy. Sadly real life takes precedence over a hobby. There's really no anticipated release date or anything, just slower progress.

Can we have the RAW files, if you don't mind?
That way other people won't be too impatient and they may be able to help with something.

What was the story behind "Anime Tenchou x Touhou Project" all about? Does it event have some sort of story or did the Touhou characters appear out of nowhere and start to fight...

I was just going to ask something related to that, and what do you know?

So speaking of the Anime Tenchou crossover, I read that it never got a public release because UFOtable, the company that made it, tried to pass it off as an official and canon Touhou product, even going as far as saying ZUN helped develop it.  That wasn't true, so ZUN got angry and forbade a public release of it.

Is that true?

Thanks in advance!

That is not true. ufotable never planned to release it to the public and said it was a derivative work from the beginning. Moreover if they had planned to sell it at some point, they would have contacted ZUN about its sale. However, until the trailer was released ZUN didn't even know it existed (as he posted on Twitter), so it's reasonable to assume they never intended to release it for profit in the first place. They had the free screenings as part of the campaign, and they had the bonus materials DVD release. That's it. It's a bit unclear as to why Animate never bothered with an actual release, but it didn't have anything to do with Touhou, as they never released the other parts of their campaign outside of the campaign, either.

The premise of the story is basically this:
Anime Tenchou (Anizawa Meito) is hurrying to an Animate event hall to deliver a finished anime OVA. In his rush he leaps through a boundary that Ran had just finished repairing. It becomes unstable and a pocket world mixed between Gensokyo and the outside world is created that sucks in Anime Tenchou and a bunch of Gensokyo inhabitants. Flandre is one of them, and she starts blowing stuff up. Reimu is there to try and stop her and they have a danmaku fight. Anime Tenchou has to safely get back and reach the event hall without the film getting destroyed. He doesn't really do anything the whole time, though.

There are many other characters shown, more notably Marisa, Yukari and Ran; Remilia, Sakuya, Patchouli and Meiling watch from a rooftop; Satori reads a book inside a bookstore with Koishi running around nearby; Rumia, Mystia and Wriggle chat in an abandoned building; Suika, Yuugi, Nitori and ZUN are in a bar; besides that there's Nazrin, Byakuren, Murasa, and basically just a bunch more extra characters. Flandre and Yukari are the only ones voiced.

According to ISC's story, Seija stole the magic items she uses from various denizens of Gensokyo. Most of the items' original owners seem pretty obvious to me, but who would be the owner of the Nimble Fabric?

Seiga? She has that shawl thing. I'm just guessing here.

Nobody knows. Suggestions range from Mamizou, Nitori, Miko, to Hatate's skirt, but there's no evidence of anything.
It's also possible it's a homage to Doraemon's ひらりマント, just to note.

Regarding the Nimble Fabric, I don't know if it's explicitly stated that Seija stole the items from others, but seeing as the Nimble Fabric is the first item you use in the game, it's likely that it's just a "default" item that isn't associated with any other character.

Has ZUN mentioned Kancolle on his Twitter account before? Read somewhere that he once said Kancolle and Touhou go nicely with each other.

He mentions it here and there. He doesn't really care for it himself and has casually mocked the gameplay (what gameplay amirite), but he more or less has to keep up with it to stay informed on trends in doujin culture. The tweet you're talking about is probably
https://twitter.com/korindo/status/382370568604897281
Which more or less says "but seriously kancolle and touhou are highly compatible so maybe i should be proactive and make a collaboration work"
This is immediately after a tweet where he's surprised that there's conflict between fandoms and jokes that he'll make a battleship character next and do a collab.

Considering ZUN's statements regarding the PC-98 games, is it safe to say that the PC-98 games are Gaiden to the Windows games, which from what I've heard means that while the setting and characters may not be completely non-canon, the story isn't necessarily fully canon either? Correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm still kind of a noob in canon interpretation. >.>

From here:
Quote
ZUN has stated that the PC-98 games can be ignored just like derivative works. He's stated that the Windows era is canon to Touhou and that the PC-98 isn't, where there's no relations. ZUN has said that Highly Responsive to Prayers was simply a "study project". He also did state that the reason why the PC-98 characters aren't seen in Touhou any more is because he finds it weird to fit them into a story, but he's stated that he won't say they'll never show up again. He's also stated that the older characters aren't gone and just don't get to be shown on game-screen.

And so forth. Ignoring the fan speculation (or, if you prefer the newspeak, "head canon") on display on that wiki page, ZUN's made this position pretty clear a number of times. The PC-98 world and its characters are a part of the past, in a separate continuum from Touhou canon.

Yeah, seems they still exist - they're just "somewhere else".

Which certainly leaves a lot of room open for fanworks, that's for sure.

First sentence of the wiki article on Makai.
