No Game No Life
« on: April 14, 2014, 11:33:21 AM »

The story of No Game, No Life centers around Sora and Shiro, a brother and sister whose reputations as invincible NEET hikikomori gamers have spawned urban legends all over the Internet. These two gamers even consider the real world as just another "crappy game." One day, they are summoned by a boy named "God" to an alternate world. There, God has prohibited war and declared this to be a world where "everything is decided by games" - even national borders. Humanity has been driven back into one remaining city by the other races..... but now they will have 2 secret weapons. "Well, let's start playing"

There are Light Novel at Baka-Tsuki (partially translated)
There is an ongoing manga (translated in your usual online reading sites)
and now there is an ongoing anime, first EP is out, second one will be aired in 2 days

I personally find this story AWESOME..... great characters, great premise, great artwork and the "game fights" are mind-boggling (seriously, the second real battle bring out NUCLEAR AND ASTRONOMICAL PHYSICS! O_O )

The protagonists:

Sora, older brother, 18-years-old virgin, an utter failure in normal life but incredible at reading peoples and finding out-of-the-box solutions.... Put him in front of a challenge and he turns into Lelouch ON STEROIDS....

Shiro, younger sister, 11-years-old supergenius, fluent in 16 languages, inhuman mathematical/logical capabilities  resulting in her actually SOLVING CHESS!

Stephanie Dora, 18-years-old beautiful young noble, grandchild of the last Human King, despite being not so good at games and having lost her chance to become queen she desperately wants to save humanity. She almost immediately meets the sibling, and a battle with Sora will utterly change her life.... causing her to become the chew toy of the terrible duo  :D

Oh, and if you think the 2 NEETS have the usual looks of shut-ins, think again.... especially in the manga! Shiro is the living dream of any lolicon/siscon and Sora often looks like a freaking Vampire lord!  Stephanie..... she is the embodiment of cute 'n sexy..... i've been in love with her from the beginning....  :derp:

Watching this because it is by the guys who gave us the Usagi show about undead people etc. There is of course also Greed Packet Infinity, which never got to anime phase by the same author.

This author seem to have a lot of half cooked projects on his/her dish, sadly.
But the shared commonplace is the IMOUTO IS THE BEST GIRL IN THE GAME/ANIME doesn't change and I will stick on it simply because of this.
At some point our male protag will dress up as a trap.

Ai Kayano as another emotionless beauty, must watch.

Breakneck pacing and fantasy setting at full throttle, excellent.

Amazingly fufilling visuals, good proper 2014 graphics and a helluva of special effects sprinkled for good, ecstatic.

Overall amazingly well-executed show, for a novel which I quitted during the prologue, the anime captures all the quintessence (if any, as I have aforementioned haven't actually finished the book lol) of it in one single motherfucking episode. This is going to be beautiful.
and Ai Kayano as female protag no shit Ai Kayano me please

EDIT: This is almost as great as Unbreakable Machine Doll, or maybe even better, just need to wait and see

HOLY CRAP!!!

I just read the latest translated chapter of the Light Novel....... i take back what i've said about Sora being Lelouch on steroids......
Lelouch HAS NOTHING ON THIS GUY!!  :o
It has taken me 3 rereads to actually understand his gamble, and what he actually did is a mind screw i would put on par with those of Higurashi!

The author is either a god of convoluted thinking or absolutely out-of-his-mind drunk with a side dish of a few tons of cocaine..... :V

That's pretty much my take. This sounds like something I would really like in theory, but... Yeah.

If the anime try to stay close to the Light Novel or the manga you can't even call it simple fanservice..... during half of one battle everyone present is COMPLETELY NAKED (yes, even 11-years-old Shiro) and the usual bath scenes are actually part of the story so no can do.....

Hopefully at least they'll use reasonable censoring or something so that it doesn't end up turning people off of what sounds like an otherwise awesome show.

I've already seen a couple shows that sounded great on paper but made me feel dirty just watching them so I dropped em.  There was one from I think last season or the one before, I think it was "I couldn't become a hero, so I went into computer sales" or soemthing like that.  Sounded funny, but the first like minute was enough to make me mentally tableflip and drop it like my hands were on fire.  A shame, really.

Well, for now the anime have shown LESS fanservice than the manga, only one pantyshot that frankly was almost unavoidable considering the position and the reason for doing that kind of shot....

Judging from the teaser this might slightly change in the next episode, since
Spoiler:
in the novel AND the manga Stephanie is dressed, while the teaser show her covered only by a blanket, obviously having lost her clothes in the poker game.

I know it's only the first episode, and they share the same VA, but atm the only thing that bothered me was the MC acting all Kirito in this new world already. Hopefully that'll change soon though :V

One thing that bothers me

>Tells viewers Sora has a communication disorder
>Has no problems negotiating and haggling for more days in the inn.

Still gonna watch this though because the whole show looks very promising still.

It should happen in the next episode, but the explanation is
Spoiler:
that the two are almost entirely dependent on being within about ten feet of each other. Sora just breaks down into incoherent babbling and fear and Shiro starts doing similar.

I was waiting for the headbashing of poor Steph and they delivered..... laughed so hard i woke up my brother  :D :D :D

Some minor difference or alteration in the order of scenes from the manga/light novel but all in all quite faithful (although i would have prefered Steph in her actual outfit instead of that rag..... she pull off the medieval noble mistress beautifully)

A note on Sora speaking pattern: in the light novels in the beginning he isn't so precise or crisp, he use very often "eh" "uhh" "mhh" and similar (like you would expect from a shut-in).... it's only after the bath scene that he start speaking like he does now....

Teaser for the next episode: get ready for the most absurd game of
Spoiler:
MAGICAL CHESS
ever seen. This will be the true test of this anime.... the games are awesome battle of wits and i really hope they do them justice!

It devolves or evolves into a straight up RTS with charismatic sweeping commands, moral, and a third party forming, so I dunno if we want to call it 'chess' per say.

Sorry, i'm feeling impish today and want to make it even harder for you  :3

If you will like the upcoming match (and i'm pretty sure you will), let me tell you now: the second and third game are CRAZIER!
Remember when i said that the second one bring out nuclear and astronomical physics? Well, to give you an idea of just HOW CRAZY they will get, here is a small second spoiler about the 2nd game: if they keep close to the original novel, at one point there will be
Spoiler:
an horde of CTHULHUS running around the NAKED players
.....

Now i dare you to guess WHAT kind of game can cause that situation  :D :V

I plowed through all four volumes in one shot after watching the first episode and its time for the second!

Holy crap I am absolutely baffled at this anime, it is clear that the studio put alot of effort into making thing easily understandable and presentable (by that I mean the
Spoiler:
boob squeeze
) while without butchering any of the main ideas of the novel. I can't wait for the next episode where (very minor spoiler that is probably okay to read but just to be safe)
