Ok... as of this evening, my history shows 1/47 on Byakuren's first card on lunatic... and I still haven't managed to unlock the stage for practice, which is why I was trying so hard in the first place. 

At least I didn't need 2 hours to get to stage 6, unlike the previous attempt... <.<


I'm beginning to develop a heavy dislike for Super Hijiri. The pattern is nothing really exciting, the card has much health and Byakuren moves all over the place, making it last awfully long. The bad part, however, is how the pattern consist of these glowing/translucent bullets that are hard to tell from one another when they overlap and then the boss moves so far down the screen that her white charge effect obscures them just as good as Nue's 7th card.

Oh well...

Holy crap, you went into Stage 6 with SIX SPARE LIVES?! @_@

Man, your ONLY problem is VoWG. You have everything else down brilliantly. I really, really strongly suggest you just go into Stage practice and practice Stage 6 repeatedly. When you get to VoWG, don't shoot and don't bomb. Just dodge only. You'll be dying very often until you get the hang of it but that really is the best way to learn how to dodge the waves of VoWG. Many times you bombed when you weren't even in any danger! I think you've fallen into the whole 'AHH IT'S VOWG SHIT CHRIST GODDAMN BOMB BOMB BOMB' way of thinking; judging from how you performed during the rest of the run and some of the dodges you managed when you ran out of bombs, you can easily clear VoWG, hell you could probably capture it at your current skill level, except you sort of... panic, I guess. I'm confident lack of practice/confidence at VoWG is literally the only thing stopping you from your 1cc. It has patterns, even if you don't notice it at first - get the hang of them and you'll be clearing it with much less difficulty.

And on a more rage-ish note... still haven't captured Peerless Wind God. <_<

I hate stage 4 MoF. I seriously think that if not for the abundance of bombs, the stage and boss would be impossible. I don't think I have ever gotten past the midboss without bombing. Also, I'm not sure if it's just my reflexes, but the deathbomb timer seems to be shorter in MoF than in any of the other games. Third: am I the only one who, while playing MoF, will try to graze during a boss's cards or non-cards at the expense of doing damage while forgetting that MoF doesn't care about grazes?

Besides the usual abundance of LOLWTF deaths on the first stage (MoF Stage 1 is an absolutely terrible stage, by the way), the first decent run clipped Lady Ohgane's Fire twice, the second got killed twice by the fairies at the beginning of stage 3, and the third clipped Nitori's second noncard...twice.  That's the one I'm usually pretty good at, for the record.

Then I got to stage 4 and suddenly was completely unable to bomb.  Game over'ed just before Aya.

By the way, since I used to be able to do it and now just autobomb it, HOW THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU DO BROKEN CHARM OF PROTECTION?  I kinda need the bombs...

80% of MoF attacks are aimed, it's really cool to graze at it =P

I agree, Stage 1 is terrible, and Autumn Sky and a Maiden's Heart is the worst spell card I have ever seen. And Broken Charm of Protection is annoying in the same way that most of the MoF cards are annoying... it's somewhat random which bullets fly where and when so it's sometimes really easy and sometimes it'll just screw you over. I don't think it will ever throw something really undodgeable at you like Peerless Bullshit God or anything but I think bombing it is the way to go on a 1cc run, unless you see a clear opening (assuming you use Reimu B you can kill it before the end of the second wave IIRC so you only really need to worry about dodging the first lot).

Having said that I have a tendency to paranoid-bomb anything that I think might clip me, but it's a working tactic, so hey. :V If you're set on capping it the best tactic I've found is to just stay slightly to the side of the bullet coming down the centre, and you're likely to find an opening.

Seriously, practice stage 4 a lot. It's just so damn long, and at first it took me over 10 tries just to reach stage 5. Bullet density is pretty high for the Easy difficulty. When I stopped dying with bombs in stock all the time it went rather well though.

EDIT: Also, does anybody else ever feel like their bomb button sometimes just gets temporarliy broken for like half a second sometimes? .-. Seriously, sometimes I SEE THE BULLET COMING, hit the key, AND IT DOESN'T BOMB!!!

Get the vsync patch.  I had much the same input lag, if not worse.  Hard kept BSing me around; with the patch I cleared it easily on my first try.

Anyway, since I kept hearing that PCB Normal wasn't much tougher than PCB Easy, I decided to try Easy mode again to see if I was just not doing as great as I had before... The results? 1CC WITH FOUR LIVES LEFT! And I hadn't ended up using nearly as many bombs as I do on Normal... And that's with two stupid random deaths thrown in ._. I have trouble getting past stage 5 on Normal... Seriously, I CANNOT understand why people think there's so little difference between the two difficulties... For me at least, it's enough to turn a lot of really easy cards into absolute nightmares...

For example: Foggy London Dolls (not really a nightmare, but definitely much tougher on Normal, though I still rarely die to it), Hino Phantasm (really pathetic on Easy, absolute panic on Normal), Five Signs of the Devas (that's right, I have a lot of trouble on Normal. No trouble whatsoever on Easy =/) Youmu's nonspells apart from the one with the knives, several of Yuyuko's cards... So yeah, I kinda think that Normal is WAY tougher than Easy >.<

OOOOOOOOH. LFO LUNATIC. It had the tiniest sliver of life left. If Byakuren didn't become completely damage immune when you died on that card the death damage would have been enough to kill her.

It's either, you play by reaction, and move "in between" butterfly lines, or you move to where I marked the cross (i.e. the temp-safespot). Of course, the SC is mirror imaged so the other side works as well.

Died to the fairies at the beginning of stage six on Easy.  Yes, you have to put in some effort to get hit by those bullets.  No other option but to restart and graze out those attacks all over again...we can only come out of this a better person!

Also, I just noticed how MoF seems weirdly short compared to the other Touhou games... my 1cc replay is 22 minutes to PCB's 34 minutes. :V I mean, hell, the no focus Phantasm run I did was only five minutes shorter than that.

That's because Autumn Sun & A Maiden's Heart is clipdeath-tastic.

Don't be afraid to bomb it, it's not like PCB where you HAVE to capture as many spellcards as possible to give you resources later.
