It is at this point that I would like to say that UFO Extra is possibly the single stupidest stage ZUN has ever made, and likely ever will, because if he ever makes one stupider, I'M NOT GOING TO FREAKIN' PLAY IT ON ACCOUNT OF UNGODLY STUPIDITY.

Your memory isn't quite working properly...

Tried a Normal run to test this, and yes, there were more than 4, up to 6 usually. But one or two of them always went away almost immediately, so I didn't notice them before because they weren't a threat.

And I know now why I find Easy harder than Normal. There are less enemies. Less enemies = less power = enemies have the time to be a total pain before dying.

So I transported all my Touhou games to my new computer with my trusty USB drives (well, I had to cut PoFV and UNL for room, but whatever :V), and was testing the vsynch patches for all the games (I hope TSO's advice will help me get it to work with EoSD, or else I'm going to be very sad). I opened up PCB and...I couldn't select stage practice for Marisa A. Then it hit me: It had been THAT long since I updated PCB on here. I've been updating the games on these drives since April of last year ever since a virus nearly killed our computer, but this...this means I haven't updated PCB in particular in 8 months. D: And to think I've updated SA as recently as a week ago!

Also re: RAGE, I am not liking the UFO chaining thingy on Extra at all because I don't want to memorize EVERY SINGLE ONE. This is NOT GOOD STAGE DESIGN WHEN MEMORIZATION IS NOT HELPFUL BUT AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY FOR SURVIVAL.

I can't 1CC Normal with MarisaB. I've done it with everyone else. I even went into stage 6 with max lives with MarisaA. But I just can't do it with MarisaB.

I guess this isn't rage so much as sadness.

First 2 stages ok, I usually completely screw up Keine, but Marisa.....
I usually leave 3 lives on that stage. I can't capture a single card.

Reisen compared to Marisa is a stage 1 midboss, except for Mind Stopper all of her cards are pretty much trivial....

My God if I hadn't made such stupid mistakes I might have finished that run of UFO Hard... my first death was on stage 3 followed immediately by another death ten seconds later. I then died on Stage 4 midboss Nue and then died again trying to get the bomb. I then died twice on CAPTAIN MURASA's third card. I then got Stage 5'd and Shou'd, as usual, which ended with me dying with two bombs in stock on her third non-card. Man... that run started so well, too. I perfected Stage 1 and only used 1 bomb in Stage 2, before of course it all went to hell.

Okay...my first lagless UFO hard run. It went from not dying until Ichirin's first spell card and grabbing the stage 4 boss' 1up, to losing 3 lives on stage 4, sucking it up on stage 5, and running into Syou on her last spell card with a bomb in stock..

Methinks I need to learn this stage 4 better.

After taking a small break from the games, I try and see how far I can go in UFO on normal. I perfect stages 1 & 2, clip a bullet in stage 3 and make it past Ichirin after dying once and using a few bombs. Then came stage 4, where I clip a bullet during midboss Nue and another bullet later on in the stage that spawned right in my face. Murasa shows up, and I nearly time her first 2 spellcards out due to her jumping to the other side of the screen. I die and bomb her 3rd card and clip 2 bullets early on in her survival card, ending my run.

In my frustration, I accidentally hit "Continue" before saving the replay so I could see how I did her 1st and 2nd card.

You know what I just realized? There's a reason UFO seems so much harder than SA. Not necessarily because it is (I certainly think it's the hardest to date), but because I started with everyone else! I didn't seriously start SA past normal until 5 months after the game came out, which by then tons of strategies were known. Now, I'm just so lost...I hope that within 5 months we will have managed this game as well as SA, down to knowing the optimal UFO collection. Until then...

No, the entire thing, equally in both ways. Screw you UFOs that force you to basically run into the thick of bullets to get your preferred UFO, screw you second half that after a point shoves random bullets an inch away from you, screw you lasers that move too quickly to gauge their trajectory (Syou's second non-spell), screw you static spell cards that guarantee a tight claustrophobic squeeze EVERY time, screw you rotating lasers with bullets that have hitboxes that reach out to touch you...

Actually, I guess that's more Syou than stage, but the whole thing is just augh. It'd be fun if it weren't so augh.

Absolute failure to not get destroyed by lunatic Cirno every single time. I can see myself getting through Meiling, Patchy and Sakuya just fine with only a bit more practice, but I get ⑨'ed so hard by Cirno that I'm running on fumes by the time I enter stage 3. Damn you Perfect Freeze backstabs, Hailstorm/Diamond Blizzard clipdeaths and, mostly, Cirno Shotgun.

I always found Cirno's opening to be pretty hard until I realized that you can camp directly above her for major graze points and a nice safe spot to shoot her from. Then she becomes easy since you can get her to go to hailstorm without her firing another series of spread waves. I don't know why, but the spread waves are infinitely more annoying on lower difficulties than on hard or lunatic.

With every passing day I'm becoming more and more suspicious of the PoFV lunatic AI. I believe that some form of malignant intelligence have taken up residence inside the game, full of spite and sadistic intent. Today I had a match against lunatic Shikieiki in which the AI acted quite weird in the first round, getting itself hit in a rather clumsy fashion. After a minute had passed it was down to the last bit of health and before 01:20, I had taken the first round. It repeated this process in the second round, getting itself down to minimal health by 01:50. At this point I was almost shaken, my first victory against lunatic Shikieiki was within reach... but I was also a bit disappointed that this grand moment would be because the AI had played such a bad game, it certainly wouldn't make for an impressive replay.

I needn't had worried though, for as soon as it reached this final point, the AI swung the match around. I threw boss after boss against it, the lasers flew (I even saw the AI avoid a laser beam that should rightfully have hit it. Atleast it would have been hit by it in any regular match!) but still the AI held itself in the game. A couple of moments later and the winner had become the loser.

The AI let me take that first round and then let itself drop down to minimal health in order to give me hope, which it would destroy the very next minute. The third round was a massacre.

It's so freaking trival at normal it isn't funny how did I manage to die not once but TWICE to this garbage spellcard?

the lasers materialize a bit too fast imo....then you forget to tap slightly and there goes one life.

Pretty much every Byakuren's attack except for the opener and her second to last one is on my touhou shitlist.
