Spoiler:
There are technically two in Netherworld, according to the Chinese wiki for the game. I know that one of them, like the original game, appears when you kill all 100 people, but I do not know how to trigger the other one.

As for that bug, I don't know. I think I might have heard of it before, but I did not get it when I was on that chapter (although I never finished said chapter, so...).

Spoiler:
It's weird, really, even if you DO know how to do it.  Go to the right side of the moat thing, and enter the thin hallway there.  Once inside, go to the next room, then immeditately go back to that thin hallway.  Go down that hall til Youmu is one space abpve the...second, i think it was?  markings on the walls, then turn around and go through the doorway.  If you did it right, the room should be different.  If my instructiins sucked, look up some Youtube videos since  I stumbled across the info in one, or the comments thereof.

Oh wow really.
That's a thing?
Geez... well thanks for letting me know so I can show it off. I probably would be missing it otherwise once we get there at some point. Once I actually freaking write earlier updates. Laziness and distractions are killing me. :V

I found him but now I can't get out again. :V
Spoiler:
I'm stuck in the room with the boss, the hallway that lead to him and a third hallway below with a pot that talks to me in Japanese with 3 options, where 1 seems to give me something and 2 end the talk.

Edit: Never mind, I got out. Don't know what I did but, eh. Probably the same way I got in. Still doesn't make me any wiser.

Yeah, it's completely ridiculous and I have no idea how you're supposed to figure that out normally
Spoiler:
since from what I read it supposedly makes a SOUND when you hit the right tile, but I don't recall hearing one so I just had to keep trying til I found the right spot once I knew that was even a thing to DO.  At least the prize was worth it since I messed up and couldn't get either special ending.  Doing something before a given point will lock you out of the 100 kills ending apparently too, but that one makes some slight sense at least.

I found him but now I can't get out again. :V

Agh, sorry, forgot about that part.  Yeah, just repeatting the process resets the hallways to the normal layout.

For a second I thought that adding more videos to a playlist in such a way that changes the index numbers of the videos would screw up the music links, thus making prior music uploads become broken links, but then I realized Youtube thankfully isn't that stupid.

Hourai Chapter- Prologue: How Many Immortals Does It Take to Track Down Kidnapping Victims?

I am uncreative with titles.

LET US DO THIS CHAPTER THING.

Oh god Tanasinn is that you. Oh wait, wrong game.
Also, errm...

I went with "not really." After all, life is kind of a downer at times.

???: "That's a real shame...
But remember, your life is your own...
And it's all up to you to make it yours, and nobody else's."

Fair point, strange and mysterious eyeballs.

???: "Life deals you all kinds of hands...
Fun times, tough times, sad times...
But when it comes down to it, death is the end."

Gee, thanks for reminding me of that.

Oh?

???: "So we think we'd like to live forever. Would be better if we never died.
But it's a funny thing... As soon as you get what you wish for, you start to realize the hollowness..."

What's the fun in living forever if there's like... not a lot you can fill the endless time with?
Also the hollowness thing is reminding me a bit of Heart of Darkness, considering I just read that in English recently.

???: "Whoops, I'm preaching a little, aren't I?
Well, stick around, and I'll tell you a little piece of my story..."

...OKAY THEN MYSTERIOUS VOICE FROM THE BEYOND.

I don't know. Do more LPs? Play more Touhou? RP with the usual gang as long as possible?

???: "In my case..."

And then sudden jump cut to the Bamboo Forest of the Lost!

Oh hey Mokou and Kaguya. Let me guess, you two are about to fight?

Mokou: "Who knows how many times we've done this...
Heh heh...
Kinda like we're lovers or something, huh?"

Like what a decent size of the Touhou fanbase believes?

Mokou: "But all that's..."

What the...?

Mokou: "W-Wazzat you just now?"
Kaguya: "Idiot... I didn't say anything. Use your head."

Yeah... pretty sure Kaguya wouldn't scream like that. It would probably be a lower key scream.
...Why am I even thinking about something like that.

There you go, you used your head!

Whoa whoa whoa, who the hell are you weirdos?

Girl: "Help me! Someone!!"

Uhh... Mokou, Kaguya, don't stand there!

Masked Man: "Shh! Shut up!! Here... have some candy..."

Don't take the candy. Bad things happen to those that do.

Mokou: "Hold it!"

Here comes the cavalry!

Masked Man: "Yeah? And who'd you be?"

A woman who can set your ass on fire, and a woman who can wreck your shit with magical treasures.

Mokou: "...
I'm jus' passin' through...
I'm the forest tour girl!"

Not the most badass of pre-asskicking one-liners, but good enough.

Okay, so we've got a new battle theme for this chapter: Painful Death at the Hands of a PYRO!! This is a remix of course of Painful Death at the Hands of a PSYCHO!! and Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke.
As for these guys, they can do some physical attacks, but aren't too hard to kill.

As for starting skills! For Mokou:

Low Kick: A physical attack with a range of one tile in any direction.
Pyrokinesis: Attacks in a 3x3 grid centered around Mokou with fire, and sets the attacked tiles to Fire.

Now, what do I meant by setting the attacked tiles to Fire?

Well, certain attacks can leave behind elemental tiles. There are four elements that I am aware of: Fire, Ice, Poison, and Electric. After a set time has passed, anyone on any elemental tile, friend or foe, will take damage from the tile. Certain characters or enemies might actually heal from the elemental tiles. Mokou, for example, heals from Fire tiles. Also, after the tiles deal damage, some of them will randomly disappear.

As for Kaguya's skills...

Dragon Necklace- Same as Mokou's Low Kick
Buddha's Bowl- Single-target healing spell with the same range as Low Kick and Dragon Necklace, and can self-target

Any skill or item in blue is a healing skill or item, just to let you know.

And not too hard.

Oh hey item drops. YagoCo Rapidrugs actually are like really amazingly great healing items.

No problem!

Mokou: "Heh, it's fine.
But what's a kid like you doin' out in these woods? What'd you do if we didn't show up?"

Yeah... Not only is it easy to get lost, but if there are other people like that running around, then it's not safe out here.

Girl: "I was collection bamboo shoots because I thought it'd make Miss Keine happy..."

Oh, you know Keine?

Mokou: "You're one of the kids from Keine's village school?"
Girl: "Do you know Miss Keine?"
Mokou: "Man, we're almost family!"

They're almost lovers! *shot*

Mokou: "'Sdangerous to go alone. I'll take ya back to the village."
Girl: "You'd do that, miss? Thank you!"

Again, no problem! It's kind of Mokou's job to guide people through the Bamboo Forest.

Just get back to Eientei before Eirin starts freaking out.

Girl: "Come with us, miss!"
Kaguya: "..."

I think she isn't in the mood.

Houraied. It's like being shanghaied, except with more immortality.

Kaguya: "Fine... shall we go?"
Girl: "Yay!! Let's go, let's go!"

And so the opening starts. And for our opening theme, we have Go! Go! Patchouli Robo!! (Opening Version). It's like Go! Go! Buriki Daioh!!, except with more Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room.

Oh man title stuff.

Oh man lyrics to the song. And oh man a rather modern looking city.

What's that I can barely see in the background?

Still walking. And stuff.

Why are you walking that way? There's a faster way of getting there!

Random Bamboo Forest of the Lost is random.

More forest. Moooorrrrrreeeeee foooorrrrrreeeeesssssstttt.

A song of ice and fire?

[insert obligatory Emperor Palpatine reference here]

Oh wow, you're still walking?

I don't know whether to call these stereotypical anime theme lyrics, or what.

Pa-dum-dum. Dum.

Well you're excited, Mokou. Also, have our main field theme for this chapter: Wait for Millenium, which of course is a Wait for Truth and Gensokyo Millenium ~ History of the Moon remix.

Well you sound annoyed.

Mokou: "Well, one of your kids got attacked by some masked punk in the forest. Jus' here to drop 'er off."
Keine: "One of my kids...?
Ah! Shinobu!
I've told you so many times! Really, now... What if something happened?!"

Yeah, um... yeah. If there's masked men running around kidnapping people, it might be a good idea to try being a little more careful.

Shinobu: "Wahhh... I'm sorryyy, Miss Keineee..."
Keine: "Hey! No crying! Don't go off on your own again. Understand?"

Otherwise you'll probably get a headbutt. Or something. Be glad it's not a full moon.

Shinobu: "Yes, teacher... I won't do it again..."
Keine: "I'm glad to hear that. Now, go to the playroom.
Your teacher wants to talk with these two."

Oh? Well, errm... if that's the case...

Shinobu: "Okaaaaay!"

Indeed.

Mokou: "So, what're we talking about?"
Keine: "I'd rather we talk in my room."
Kaguya: "..."

Oh right, Kaguya's still here.

Kaguya: "Am I to come as well?"

Kind of awkward that you would ask for help from the enemy of your best friend, but... oh well?

Yeah, what's the problem?

Keine: "Er, well... Numerous parents to my students have been going missing."
Kaguya: "Missing, you say?"

Well yeah, what else would she mean?

Oh great. Take those masked men into account, and you've got your regular case of kidnapping.

Keine: "Until their parents are found, the children are in my custody... I'd rather it not stay that way."
Mokou: "So you just want me to find these missing dudes?"

Well, if she seems that worried, it's probably a big deal.

Keine: "Ah, well... Would you do it?"
Mokou: 'Yeah, I got this! Just leave it to Fujiwara no Mokou!"

Yaay, we're awesome. Kind of.

Uhh... you're asking Kaguya for help?

Kaguya: "....."

Kaguya is so stunned her elipsis is longer than usual.

Kaguya: "Hm. Are you... "hiring" me to search for this person?"

well "these people," but yeah, kind of, I guess?

Keine: "Huh? If you want to call it that... I guess this is the sort of thing people who work as detectives usually do."

Kaguya Houraisan: Private Eye.

Kaguya: "Now, Mokou, we must gather intelligence at once! Hurry, we must go!"

You are like... really formal even for this sort of thing.

Yeah, Mokou knows what she's doing. Maybe.

Keine: "Thank you! I'm counting on you two!"

Well, there we go!

With Mokou and Kaguya together, can we find the kidnapped humans and figure out what's been going on with the kidnappings? That's something we might find out next time!

Super long update time, brought to you by me overdoing it with the screenshotting!

Hourai Chapter- Part 1: Investigate the Village!

That sounds like a level name that would have come out of MaGLX. I'm not sure if it was, though.

Oh hey there's a television in Gensokyo apparently.

"The search for missing persons in the west human village continues, but our search has turned up nothing."

Well that's what we're investigating... not that we've done much of anything yet.

"North, west, and south villages, watch out! We wanted to hear from the Hakurei shrine maiden, known for her resolving of incidents.
One of our reporters sent to the Hakurei Shrine to meet its maiden, Reimu Hakurei (age unknown), and interview her on these events."

Oh, maybe Reimu is aware of something?

""Some things you should just settle yourselves rather than rely on me for," she commented."

So helpful, Reimu. So freaking helpful.

"It still seems it will be a difficult road until the ultimate resolution of this affair.
In other news...
Recently, the number of spirits passing through the Sanzu no Kawa has dropped tremendously."

Huh? That's weird...
Would less people be dying or something to that extent? That's all I can think of...

"We interviewed the star of TV show "Assaulting Neighboring Celebrities," Komachi Onozuka (age unknown) to get the facts."

...Do I even ask about what that is?

Komachi: "Yyyep, no one's been comin'... Now I ain't got no job to do, dangit! 'Least now I'm free to slack off..."

Typical Komachi.

"No one's been coming? A distressing omen. Could it be as severe as another incident? Let's hope it won't come to that...
...The resolution of comparably small incidents falls to the Gensokyo Patrol Organization. Here's what they have to say."

Oh yeah, the GPO is going to kind of show up quite a bit across the game.

""It's too soon to say anything for sure. But as soon as it's an established incident, we'll begin taking action.""

And you're not considering mass human disappearances at all an incident? Helpful!

"In other news...
The Memento Mor, the space ship which was launched two weeks ago to investigate the surface of the moon..."

And the TV cuts off before we can find out what happened with that ship. Oh well, we'll find out more about that in Return Chapter.

Oh, who's here?

Shinobu Tohdoh: 7-year old girl
Father: Missing  Mother: Died four years ago
Brother: Vanished three years ago

Takashi Kakizaki: 7-year old boy
Father: Missing  Mother: Missing
No siblings

Kaede Hirasaka: 7-year-old girl
Father: Missing  Mother: Divorced, no info since
No siblings

Tomoya Watanabe: 7-year-old-boy
Father: Missing  Mother: Dead
No siblings

I guess when your school essentially is forced into becoming a boarding school, it's a good idea to have records on family so that they can return to them... at some point.

Hmm?

Uh, sure.

Wonders of Gensokyo
- Forgotten Mansion -

They say there's an uninhabited mansion deep in the bewildering forest. The forest rabbits have written a hint...
"Usa sama usa usa hima usa."
At least, it sounds like a hint, but... Well, we have no idea what it means.

Huh, interesting. Maybe it's a code or something?

A local typographer asked to see the hint and performed an analysis of the rabbits' naturally-sloppy handwriting.
"I feel somehow certain it's indicating a path. But I haven't quite figured out how the message might connect to directions.
As messy as the writing was, something about the "u"s in particular didn't look quite right.
The "ma"s were written quite neatly... A little too neatly, to be honest. The lines were oddly straight.
And "hi" and "sa"... Unfortunately, they've both left me completely clueless."
A vague, generally inconclusive, yet commendable effort. Can anyone decipher this code? If so, write in!

Err... to be honest, I thought when I first played I knew what it meant, but I haven't exactly figured it out. Seriously, I'm clueless as to what this even does. Is it like... a red herring?

Oh man treasure in drawers.

Why the exclamation like that?

Seems like this yukkuri isn't doing too well...

You're a human, so... it's not exactly doable.

They are, aren't they?

Talking to children like a creep!

Mokou: "Eh, nothin' in particular...
Hey wait, where'd that girl with the black hair go?"
Kaede: "You mean Shinobu?"

Oh yeah, Shinobu. The girl we rescued. Did she wander off or something?

Kaede: "Have you checked Marisa's room?"

Err... sort of?

Mokou: "Marisa?"
Kaede: "She's a yukkuri we keep as a pet.
But she's not doing too well right now..."

Yeah, I kind of saw that...
Well, let's go see if Shinobu's with Marisa, then.

She is!

Shinobu: "Ah, you're the ones from earlier!"

Indeed we are!

Kaguya: "What are you doing, Shinobu?"
Shinobu: "This is our pet, but she hasn't been feeling well...
I think she might die..."

Oh noes, the yukkuri!

Mokou: "Reminds me of jelly donuts... Not interested."

Hey, Mokou, don't be like that!

Kaguya: "So I see!
Perhaps Kourin can assist in some way!"

How do you know Rinnosuke? You like... don't often leave Eientei.

Kaguya: "To Rinnosuke's Kourindou, to the north!
Mokou, let us head there and discuss this matter with him!"
Mokou: "Yikes, ya don't need to shout!
...Sheesh. Since when do you like kids, anyway?"

Beats me. Maybe she's just excited to be outside the mansion?

Oh man we're outside. Let us celebrate being outside.
...Okay we're done here. Move along.

So "world map," in a sense. Kourindou is to the north, but let's fight some enemies first. You kind of want to clear the map a couple times... which I fail to do, which kind of ends up biting me in the ass later on in this update.

Here we have a Neo Gladys and two Giridas. The Neo Gladys is rather easy to kill with two Pyrokinesis attacks. The Giradas, being tanks, are kind of tougher to kill, and they hit like a truck. You can bypass some of the challenge though, by...

...Causing Break Down. Break Down, which I think only appears in this chapter of the first seven, happens when you kill the "leader" of a group of enemies. The rest will instantly die, but don't drop any items, I believe. This is how you will be killing off most of the battles to make it easier on yourself, because otherwise killing them all the usual way is difficult.

Also, this chapter, being more of a traditional JRPG, has actual level ups. A bit of grinding is needed.

Another new enemy here. The Blizzard Dogs can hit you with an attack that leaves a 3x3 grid of Ice tiles behind. Be careful about that.

Buzz-Buzzs are not that strong, but have an ability that they use almost instantly to raise practically all of the stats of the entire enemy party. Go for the Neo Gladys quickly before they go crazy with the buffing.

After clearing the map, we're finally set for Kourindou.

Lot of junk you got there, Rinnosuke.

Silent Patchy is silent. Oh well.

How is the drum nostalgic?

Okay...?

...Uh... okay.

Whoa, settle down, buddy.

Is someone in there...?

Mokou (thinking): Ewww, I touched it...

...Do I dare ask?

...

Rinnosuke: "Uh, hi..."
Mokou: "W...
Wash your hands!"

...I won't dare ask.

Errm... maybe we should ask someone else.

And then a Kaguya from nowhere.

Rinnosuke: "What's that!!
Well, you can leave that to me!
Don't think I'm JUST the simple owner of an antique shop...
With my great knowledge of the outside world, I'm always on the cutting edge in Gensokyo!"

Says the guy who can stare a piece of 21st century technology in the face, say what it does, but have absolutely no idea how it actually works.

Rinnosuke: "I'll give that yukkuri thing another chance at life!"

Good freaking luck...?

Rinnosuke: "I'll head to the basement and get there on my man-powered flying contraption!"

Okay...
Well, we need to go after him in order to progress with the plot.

And here it is.

I'm beholding it... and I am unsure of what I see.

Oh, it lifted off. Hurray!

...Or it can crash land!

Rinnosuke: "Hack, cough...
I... don't feel very good. You go on ahead."

Sure thing. We'll let Shinobu know you're coming.

We might as well look around first, though, such as at the busted flying contraption that I figured would be useless.

Back at the school, oh man, that's quite the sandbox you've got there, Takashi.

Rinnosuke blew himself up, but other than that...

Kaguya: "Not to worry. Rinnosuke is coming to help."

And there's the man himself. Looks like he took a bath in the process.

Rinnosuke: "I ended up having to hoof it."

No, really?

Rinnosuke: "She's in bad shape..."

Well yeah, we kind of figured that.

Rinnosuke: "But the filling inside this yukkuri can still be extracted!"

Uh... okay...? Wouldn't that kill her, though?
*is not up to speed on yukkuri memes and shit, go figure*

Rinnosuke: "And then..."

Oh, umm... so we're essentially putting her consciousness and such into a robot because her body is about to die?
Uh... seems legit? Maybe?

Kaguya: "Whitey-empty-ivy...?"
Mokou: "Flewed an' droyed...?"

Oh right, these two are like from waaaaaaaaaay back, so these kinds of things are essentially Peanuts adult speak. I forget exactly when the period where the Fujiwara family had influence was, but I'm sure it was at least a few hundred years ago.

Rinnosuke: "Yukkuri Droid Marisa Type IV! But YDMT-IV for short."

Can I just call it Marisa still? That might be a bit hard to remember.

Rinnosuke: "I can't explain fluid androids too well. It's too scientific even for me..."

And yet you're the one who's like "I SCIENCE THINGS GOOD"? Geez, I'd trust Kanako or Sanae's word over you on outside world technology and such. At least they had the experience of living there.

Rinnosuke: "We need some electricity..."

Hmm... well... seeing as I believe the underground nuclear power plant also fuels the human village, we should have some form of electricity somewhere...

Errm... find it yourself?

Mokou: "Outlet?"

You're trying to ask a person who's lived hundreds of years without modern convinences to know what one is.

I guess?

Mokou: "Okay..."

...Did we kill him?

Apparently not. That's a relief. Kind of. Also, hey, it worked!

I wish I could!

YDMT-IV: "Take it thankfully, madams! YDMT-IV is joy of joys!"

No problem! I'm not one for yukkuri abuse. Unlike a decent portion of the Touhou fandom. *stares with disdain at said portion*

Mokou: "Was it changing her body that made her start talking in third person...?"

No clue.

You okay?

Rinnosuke: "Science is spectactular!"

Uh huh.

Rinnosuke (thinking): Hm... wait...
If I apply this same theory...
(speaking): "Why, that's it!!"

Huh? Rinnosuke?

I've got just as much of a clue as you do, Keine.

Shinobu: "It worked!"
Kaguya: "Is it doing better now?"

Those two lines were from me talking to the two of them. Well, yeah, it worked.

We were resurrecting a yukkuri by stuffing it in a robot. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Keine: "What are you guys doing?"

I just said...

Oh, um, okay?

Mokou: "H... hey, wait!"

It's okay, YDMT-IV is actually a decent party member. Also agh that's going to be so annoying to type out every time.

Mokou: "You gonna follow me?!"

I guess so.

Kinda.

Mokou: "Following us's more like it... That alright with you, though?"
Keine: "Well, you can consider it a sort of payment for accepting my request."

Oh man, we get a yukkuri as a reward for investigating things we haven't even really investigated yet.

Keine: "I'll tell the kids about it, so... See you."

Okay...

Will do! I only let yukkuris get hurt if they are the Strawberry Bose variety, because those ones give me a lot of XP. Speaking of which, King Yukkuris in Nightmare of Rebellion are hilariously easy to kill if you got the one Doppel with Damage Net. They don't even do the thing like in Devil of Decline where they cast Regeneration to clear the field effect. And their version of Face Smash is hilariously weak.

So we have a yukkuri in our party. We'll go over stuff in regards to skills and such later. Just to let you know, YDMT-IV can't level. Keep that in mind. For now, let's continue investigating stuff.

Oh hey Keine. Again.

Keine: "Hm? Uh, just reading.
It's a good sunny day to read. It feels really nice out here."
Mokou: "So what're you reading?"
Keine: ""The Legend of Heroes and Demons.""
Mokou: "Oh, I know that one."

You do? What's it about?

Mokou: "At the start, he's a hero doin' stuff for peeps, but then his best friend and fiance betray him, so he becomes a demon?
That's an old one. Sure liked it, though!"

Oh huh... someone actually wrote what happened during you-know-what. That's weird.

Keine: "It's just a fairytale, of course. Yet, it still has some truth to it."

Like the fact that "Don't give up as long as one person believes in you" can be totally, utterly crushed because people can be dicks?

Keine: "And no one seems to know who wrote this story..."

No known author? Odd... but that actually makes me wonder, did anyone write that down after the fact? Because it's more or less confirmed across this game that Live-A-Live already happened, but you know, besides the seven protagonists, didn't everyone in that era get wiped out by Odio? If so, who was able to write the story? It's not like the seven were told the whole story.

Keine: "That kind of mystery just makes the story even more interesting, doesn't it?"

Mmm... well, I'm sure something like that will never happen again. Nope. Never.

Meanwhile, back at Kourindou, you need to go down this basement to continue the plot. Kind of a Guide Dang It moment, but this chapter is already sort of filled with them, so...

...What the hell.

Mokou: "W-What's THIS thing?!"
Rinnosuke: "It's just as I thought!"

What is just as you thought?

Rinnosuke: "A liquefied creature would be the perfect fuel to move this giant robot!"

...I'm sorry, did you say "liquefied creature"? That sounds... I don't know... disturbing?

Rinnosuke: "It'll be done in no time!"
???: "Not so."

Hmm?

Oh hey Patchy. I guess if the robot looks sorta like you, you would be involved in its construction...

Patchouli: "Patchouli Knowledge, of the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
If you use a liquefied creature, it is that creature who will have most of the control."

...Right. Again, freaking disturbing.

Patchouli: "So a simple animal won't do. It would have to be a human, you see?"

Agagagagagagagagagagagagh. No. Please. Don't. Not in Touhou. Please. Youkai eating humans? I can take that. But something like that? Urgha...

Patchouli: "How can you be thinking about this nonsense when the cockpit isn't even complete?"

Uh... wouldn't it be something you would have to worry about later anyways? Might as well strike the iron while it's hot... disturbing as it might be, in this case.

Mokou: "What's your part in all this?"
Patchouli: "I had the idea, did the planning, and constructed it... he just financed it."

Rinnosuke isn't entirely useless... I guess?

Patchouli: "It'll take a couple months to finish anyway, so there's no rush."

Fair enough. I guess in that time you can find an alternative power source, like nuclear power or magic. Because yeah, liquefied creatures? No just no.

Oh, well that's useful. We did find a couple of "Who Knows What" earlier, so...

Let's give some to him!

Do we need the circle effect?

Rinnosuke: "..........
....................
..............................
........................................
Yes, I've got it!"
Mokou: "Hey, it's...
A Missile Pod!"

Oooo, that's something we can give to YDMT-IV! It gives her a skill.
We also get a Power Wrist and Fireworks from the other two things, so yay!

Next stop we need to head to in order to advance the plot is Eientei. So let's go there!

And here we are. You have to go through the Bamboo Forest, but all you need to do is walk left a bunch until you get here.

Fancy looking.

...That's what the paper here says.

Looks like you're making some money, Eirin.

Hey Eirin, how's it going?

Indeed we are, although we still haven't found shit.

Eirin: "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At last... the princess, getting a job...
After so many long years of toil, my dream has finally come true..."

Hurray, she isn't a complete hikikomori anymore. She probably will go back to it after this, though, so don't get your hopes up.

Eirin: "Take this as my congratulations!"
Mokou: "Hey, it's...
YagoCo Rapidrugs!"
Kaguya: "Thank you!
Well, I shall do my best!"

Yeah, we should try actually doing some freaking detective work. Maybe. For once.

Eirin: "Good to hear it!"
Mokou (thinking): Guess I shouldn't tell her the truth...

As to what we're investigating? How is that a problem?

So, YDMT-IV's skills!

Tackle: Single-target physical attack with a range of one tile in any direction
Smash Stomp: Slightly more powerful single-target physical attack with a range of one tile horizontally or vertically

Equipping that Missile Pod also gave her...

Rocket Launch: Single-target physical attack that has a range of one or two spaces in any direction

She's not that bad in combat, but again, she cannot level.

Anyways, to continue with the plot, we needs to go back to Keine's school. Again, I have NO idea how you are supposed to know to do this, but...

Hmm?

Watanabe: "I've got something to give you later..."

Okay...?

Watanabe: "Can you come to the storeroom?"

I can do so right now, yeah.

And here we are.

What was it, Watanabe?

Watanabe: "U-uh, take this..."
Mokou: "Hey, it's...
Keine's Panties!"

Mokou: "How'd you manage to pilfer these?"
Watanabe: "I didn't steal them!"

But... you had them... and... agh, nevermind...

Watanabe: "Teacher got soaking wet one rainy day, and she forgot them here after changing!
I couldn't ust leave them there... But I couldn't give them to her either..."

...So you took them? Okay then...

Mokou: "You weren't peeping on her, were you...?"
Watanabe: "Errr..."

Watanabe, why. Just why.

Mokou: "Whatever... I'll take 'em off yer hands."
Watanabe: "Thanks, miss!
W-Well, I'll be going now..."

Let's never mention this again. Please.
Anyways, we needed to do that in order to progress with the plot. Let's go back outside and see if we can actually find a lead...

What the?!

Mokou: "Keine!"

Is she in trouble?!

Uh-oh, they found us...

I'm not exactly sure!

Keine: "Never mind me! They took Takashi!"

That's what you get for being the hero of the sandbox.

Mokou: "Got it!!"

And MORE ENEMIES. This time we've got High-Gladys, which... are just kind of more powerful Gladys enemies. They're not overly hard, but make sure your party doesn't get torn to shreds.

Oh no you don't!

Hey, you can't just put motorcycles out of your ass! That's not fair!

...Or they can just ride off and ignore me. Great.

???: "Ah, it's a beautiful day for a ride!"

Who the...?

Uh, sorry mister, but uh...

Mokou: ".....
I'll just borrow this!"

Sorry, we have a child to rescue from... masked guys.

Keine: "Mokou, do you even know how to use that?!"

Considering the time period she's originally from, I'd say no.

Mokou: "Who cares!"

But it doesn't matter because yeah.
I swear now I should have called the update "Immortals on Motorcycles" because lol memes, but whatever.

Let's follow them. Thankfully they don't seem to be too far ahead...

...And they led us to the Bamboo Forest. I'm assuming there's a puzzle here, but essentially what I did was randomly wander around until...

...We enter a new area.

Yeah, we've got you cornered now!

Mokou: "Just give Takashi back quietly..."
Masked Man: "Hoohoohoohoo...
Do you think we were just running away aimlessly?"
Kaguya: "What do you mean?"

Let me guess, a trap?

Masked Man: "Come!
Dead Soldiers!"

Oh no...

Oh man battle transition.

The Dead Soldiers are... to say the least, difficult. They have actually a fair resistance to fire, to the point where using Low Kick with Mokou is actually better than using Pyrokinesis. This is why you might want to grind before this point. I did not do so.

As you can see, Kaguya kind of died by the end of it. Mokou mainly stayed alive through healing items and usage of Fire tiles to regen HP.

We did!

Masked Man: "Ack! Time to get desperate!"

Not pictured: Another fight against four High-Gladyses. Mokou kind of died, but meh.

Gotcha. Again. Can you just give up now?

Mokou: "....."

Whoa, you're strong, Mokou.

Mokou: "...
I know all these kidnappings ain't your own idea...
So tell me...
Who's orderin' this!!"
Masked Man: "Ugh...
I won't tell you anything...
I'd rather die..."

No, you will tell us something, or we thrash you harder, but not hard enough to kill. That's how it works in Gensokyo.

Mokou: "Hah!
That's how you want it? Then we'll do this my way..."

Show 'em what happens when you fuck around with Fujiwara no Mokou!

Mokou: "...
Wearing those weird-ass helmets... Could be you're all jus' shy...
Or maybe you got somethin' to HIDE!"

...You're kidding...

Mokou: "Ain't these yer rabbits, Kaguya?!"

Don't tell me Kaguya knew...

Kaguya: "W-What on earth is this?!"

...Perhaps not...

Mokou: "Okay, I'm SERIOUS now! Who's orderin' you?! Was it Eirin?!
ANSWER ME!!
Unmasked Rabbit: "Guh...
Guhragoooh!!"

What the...

Mokou: "They're...
They're dead..."

...Okay, what the hell? Did we beat them too hard...?

Not happy about that turn of events, are you?

Mokou: "What the hell's going on here...? Why'd that guy have to die on me?!"

Uh... if I knew I would tell you, but uh... I don't.
Well technically I do, but you know. Feigning plot ignorance to avoid spoilers. Sorry Mokou.

Mokou: "Crap!"
Kaguya: ".....
The slave drug..."

Huh? Slave drug?

Keine: "Slave drug...?
I've never heard of that."
Kaguya: "The slave drug is a strong medicine which Eirin worked on.
Anyone who takes the medicine will become a slave to the person they see next.
But there's a terrible side-effect... If not provided with constant oxygen from a tank, their body will decompose like they're dead.
The effects are practically permanent...
If you drink it, you'll be a puppet for life..."

...So not only are they mindless, they're literally on borrowed time? Damn... Eirin, you're sick.

Keine: "That sounds like a nightmare medicine..."
Mokou: ".....
Let's go...
Let's go to Eientei!!"

...Yeah. That's our definite lead now. Those rabbits have to be from Eientei. If they took the slave drug, and that came from Eientei, then there's no other possibility.

Kaguya: ".....
But...
I cannot imagine Eirin is the criminal..."

And why is that? You have proof?

Kaguya: "Eirin sealed away the medicine right after making it."

Oh... but still, if she sealed it, wouldn't she be the only one capable of unsealing it? She's the freaking Brain of the Moon. She's probably got ancient magical techniques beyond the comprehension of even Yukari, and if the medicine was that dangerous, I'm sure she'd pull out all the stops to prevent anyone else from even being able to touch it.

Kaguya: "And after all...
The rabbits are practically family to us... Always so playful..."

...Cry-A-Live. That's all I have to say.

Kaguya: "Why would Eirin subject them to such a thing...? She couldn't have a reason for that..."
Keine: "Miss Kaguya...
The fact remains... the rabbits were given the slave drugs, and they caused the kidnappings.
Even if you don't want to believe it... we have to find out the reality... and the truth."
Mokou: "Thing is...
We can't really say yet if Eirin's a criminal here."

We can't? For what reason...?

Mokou: "Someone might just be tricking her... or makin' her weak... and that's why she's usin' those drugs."

So a second party? But who would be able to do that?

Kaguya: ".....
Right...
I...
I believe in Eirin...!"

Yeah... there is still a chance for Eirin to be manipulated... somehow. If that's the case, then we should be able to find the real criminal. Right...

Keine: "I'd like to help, but I need to stay and protect the kids...
I believe you two can settle this and make things peaceful again!"
Mokou: ".....
Keine...
Thanks...
Well..."

Right! But man, we've already done so much in this update alone. Eientei will have to wait until next time. Is Eirin the criminal? Is she being manipulated? And if so, by whom? And to what end? Next time, we'll get all of the answers to that and more.

Immortals (not Danmaku, modifying quotes is a baaaaad thing) on Motorcycles
Calling Touhou15 right here.

I was kind of overleveled in that chapter just because I ran around without any idea and beat up everyone on the map 3 times or so before I found out about the thing with returning to the school and Keine's underwear.

About the Bamboo Forest mazes and (not) clues: I too wasn't able to decipher that "hint" with the mansion and in the end looked it up. (shame on me)
At the part with the kidnappers I ran around aimlessly as well until I found them. :V

Edit: One should not just modify quotes and put words in other people's mouth!

Technically I said "Immortals on Motorcycles," but meh. :V
Also, I did know what the code meant, you know. I just tried it again (after looking it up to confirm, yes, I had it right the first time) and this time it worked. I followed the directions incorrectly the first time I tried them. :V
As for what is the reward for following the instructions? Well... I'll go over it in the next update first thing. I already screenshotted it.

Spoiler:
This will be a fight I will have to majorly put off until later, after doing some level grinding. Just aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

EDIT: I'm going to post my reactions and the screenshots of what I just ran across as sort of a mini-update. Just to give a preview as to what the fuck just happened.

It's mini-update time.

Hourai Chapter: Part 1.5- Diediediediediediediediediediediediedie...

So, we were going to Eientei. But before we do that, let's go check out what that code written by the forest rabbits meant.
I actually knew what the code meant. You see, each syllable represented a direction, but from the perspective of your character, starting from the Bamboo Forest of the Lost's eastern entrance (AKA where you enter from the human village). Let's refresh our memories as to the code and what the typographer said, with the necessary hints bolded:

"Usa sama usa usa hima usa."

In other words, "u" is right, "ma" is straight, and both "hi" and "sa" are left. This turns the code into:

Right
Left
Left
Straight
Right
Left
Right
Left
Left
Straight
Right
Left

And if you follow this...

...You end up here. It's... rather disturbingly quiet, besides some small environmental noises.

Oh hey, there are some yukkuris here. They all say "Take it easy!!" when you talk to them. Seems about right... although this place is giving me the creeps...

Huh... well, it won't let me, so let's just look around.

On the second floor, we find this room.

Oh?

Sure, why not?

...Why do I get the feeling we are utterly fucked? Also, the little environment sounds COMPLETELY stopped, to be replaced by some sort of roaring and crashing noise, then just silence.

...Uh... Where did those footprints come from?

...This door was closed before.
...What did this...

...Whatever came through here... killed all of the yukkuris. I think I'm gonna... yeah...

An open door...? No way, I'm outta here. Fuck this.

...Or not.

...The room down here is completely dark... but if you look very carefully...
...There's footprints everywhere.
...LET'S GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS PLACE NOW.

EXCEPT TRYING TO DO SO GIVES YOU A NASTY ROAR AND THEN THIS MOTHERFUCKER.
Okay, okay, first of all, new boss theme: METALMANIA (Withered Leaf at Trance), which is a remix of Megalomania and Withered Leaf. That's our bonus boss theme for this chapter.
AS FOR THIS GUY. HE USES...

THIS ATTACK

IT DEALS 999 DAMAGE

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TTTTTTTPPPPPPPKKKKKKKKK

AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE GODDAMNIT.
...SO THEN. RIGHT. OKAY. YES. AGHAHGHAHGAGHAGHAGHAGHAGHGA.
OKAY THAT'S IT FOR THIS. WE'RE NOT GOING TO GO THAT WAY UNTIL WE CAN BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THAT GUY. THANK GOD I HAVE A SAVE BEFORE I WENT THERE, OTHERWISE I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE GOTTEN MYSELF INTO AN UNWINNABLE SITUATION. SEE YOU NEXT TIME WHERE WE GET TO GO TO EIENTEI FOR REAL. SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS IS FUN. YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME.

Summary:

TPKs: 1 this update, 1 this chapter, 1 overall

Also, if you're curious; Patchy's robot is a reference to Megamari, and Keine's Panties is a reference to Cave Story. Just sayin since I saw none.

Hourai Chapter: Part 2- Rocket Hideout Gensokyo Edition

So, it's now time for actually going into Eientei. But first, I did some grinding on the enemies wandering around town, so as to make the upcoming area easier. The big thing I got was Mokou's Elfire skill, which is a pretty powerful single-target skill. I'll mention it's range and stuff in the summary as usual.

We got some Who Knows What, which is pretty nice for getting better gear, such as this Ignition Glove.

If you don't cause Break Downs, you can get Strong Parts off of the robotic enemies. They add 10 HP to YDMT-IV, which is actually very good. If you feel like needing to grind them for whatever reason (and you don't have to, I beat this chapter originally only getting one Strong Parts), I suggest beating up the robotic enemies around the human village. The enemies in the upcoming area will also drop them, but they're more difficult to fight, so...

Right, back at Eientei, and... Eirin's not here. Huh. Where is she, then?

Yeah, this floor panel looks suspicious...

Because it's a staircase! Aha!

Whoa, what the... this kind of reminds me of the Rocket Hideout. Also we have dungeon music: Silent Labyrinth, which is pretty much the same as it was in the original Live-A-Live.

"Soylent Base"? Is that the name of this place?

Authorized personnel, please insert ID card

...We don't have an ID card.

Current status
- Security System ON -
- Control System ON -
- Defense System ON -

...Right, looks like we should be careful, then.

This place has tours?

Be careful not to wander too deep into authorized areas.

Define "authorized areas."

So this is a medicinal factory? Okay...

Good to know, I guess?

Oh? Maybe we could take it down to where the person in charge is?

An ID card is needed to use the elevator. If you lose your ID card, go find someone who has theirs.

...And we don't have a card. Great.

The B7F control computer can be used to remove the elevator ID lock.

...Why would you have that on a poster that would supposedly be for the public? Granted, it seems like no one knows much about this place.

Well no freaking duh, it wouldn't be a good security system if it didn't somehow ward off or attack intruders.

Please do not pass through without first disabling the defense system.

Like we even know how. And like we even care about the system. If it's anything as bad as the guys we've been beating up until now, we'll be fine.

Oh, there's a list? Fascinating.

1: Angry Bees
2: Meat Processing
3: Liquefication
4: Incineration
5: Shady Drugs
6: Slave Drug

...What. Okay, so... they will either unleash bees to kill us, PROCESS OUR FREAKING MEAT INTO GOD KNOWS WHAT, LIQUEFY US, INCINERATE US, DOPE US UP ON GOD KNOWS WHAT, OR MAKE US THEIR ETERNAL SLAVES.
Oh this Soylent Base place is oh so friendly! Definitely!

So we're on B1F, and the lock for the elevators is on B7F. We've got a ways to go.

Oh hey, they're making drugs. How wonderful.

Mokou: "These're those same Rapidrug things Eirin gave us a sample of."

So this is where they're made, huh?

Kaguya: "I can hardly believe a facility like this was under Eientei..."

Indeed. For a Japanese-style manor, this place is freaking high-tech as all hell.

Kaguya: "...Let us go."

Right.

Elevators we can't exactly use.

ID Lock active
Please insert ID card

We don't have one. Whoops.

And here's that one-way elevator. Thankfully, it has no lock on it, so we can use this to come back here if we get far down yet want a quick way back to the entrance.

Looks like there's enemies here. Let's take 'em down.

Okay, so, we've got the Control System here and Girida Mk. IIs. The Control System acts as the leader here: Take it down, and you've got instant Break Down. The Girida Mk. IIs hit like trucks, but of course will drop Strong Parts, so you've got a choose: Kill everything the usual way and maybe get Strong Parts for YDMT-IV, or just kill off the Control System with Elfire. I went for getting Strong Parts for a few battles, but switched to ganking the Control System ASAP later on in the dungeon.

Also, we got Rafoie. I will mention it more in the summary, but I wanted to give an example of its range because I'm not sure if I worded it right in the summary. It's kind of weird trying to describe the ranges of these attacks.

Maybe we can find some sort of data in this room?

Looks like they left it unlocked. Let's see what we can find.

...
...
...
...
...
No. Comment.
Also, this was pretty much why in my original run, I never used YagoCo Rapidrugs in this chapter. It makes me feel slightly like a horrible person.

...Anyways, two new enemies, the Offense System and the Blaze Cannons. The Blaze Cannons shoot you, and the Offense System is similar to the Control System, besides the fact that if left alone, it will use Genocide Ray, which hits the entire screen. Thankfully, it won't really kill you if you have some decent levels, so two Rafoies and an Hourai Barrage or two, plus maybe an Elfire will handle the whole party.

Rocket Launchers can also be paired up with Offense Systems. They launch rockets at you. And that's it.

Bio... what?

...That does not look friendly in the slightest back there.

More enemies, what a shock.

Two more new enemies, this time being the Blue Alert (which is just a more powerful Buzz-Buzz), and the Metal Guard Man, which is kind of physically tanky but isn't too powerful in general.

Looks like we can't get through here... yet.

I wonder what this thing does.

It turns out to be a teleporter, as evidenced that there's a little security dot where there wasn't one before.

Oh hey, living quarters.

Errm... we destroyed the Rocket Launchers. It wasn't really that hard, either.

I think you're going to go down first!

High-Gladyses, what a shock. They again manage to kill Mokou... somehow. Sticky Slap hurts.

No problem, just don't try to kill us.

Thank you for the help, masked rabbit dude guy person.

You know, if you are on the slave drug, wouldn't you like... fight us to the death or something? Or have you not taken the slave drug yet?

Errm...

Oh yeah, there's some good stuff in here.

Right, let's change that quickly...

...And we can end up over here, letting us open up those doors from earlier.

...I have no clue.

Kaguya: "It's far off in the distance, but... Is that a giant robot...?

And somehow Kaguya knows about robots. Wasn't she from a period where robots weren't exactly a thing...?
...Oh right, we've seen a couple so far. Right. And she's from the moon, which is apparently leagues above even the outside world in terms of technology. Right. Forgetting things about canon.

Mokou: "So they've been making one too...?"

Apparently.

Mokou: "I gotta say, though, these guys got some terrible design sense.
I wanna know what kinda nutjob came up with THAT."

It does kind of look... uh.. weird, even from a distance. Then again, Patchy's MegaMari-style robot didn't look exactly "normal" either.

Kaguya: "...
Look. The people working on the robot...
Might they be the abducted persons we're looking for?"

Huh, maybe. We can't exactly tell from up here, though, can we?

Mokou: "Could be...
An' it might be my imagination, but...
I don't get the feelin' they're even alive... Yeah, that's not creepy at all."

Not even alive? That doesn't sound good...
Anyways, let's keep going.

Oh hey there. You look kind of like you're from Final Fantasy IV.

Ooh, so if we shut it down, we should be able to get through?
Granted... we don't have a password for doing so. Yet.

Hmm... best not touch it, or something.

Alright, so, we can input a 4-digit or 6-digit password. One of the things we got from those drawers was a Crumpled Memo, which had a six-digit string on it.

As we can see right here. Those ID Cards have parts of a 4-digit string on it, but we don't have the full thing yet, so we can't input that. I believe that's what you need to fight the other bonus boss, but seeing as I never did that in my original run, well...

Let's just put in this password for now.

Yay, we got it!

And we can open up the next door to proceed.

Another new enemy here. The Robot-Cop is pretty tough, and is practically a mini-boss who can one-shot almost everyone. The Robot-Cop will show up if you input an incorrect password, but you also encounter one in the corridor that opened up from that door.

Who's that?

Huh? You look familiar...

???: "I'm Rikako Asakura."

Oh, Rikako! Haven't seen you since Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream. What brings you here?

Rikako: "I am responsible for the manufacture and security systems here, and I don't appreciate your attempts to break either."

Err... you do know what you're doing is wrong, right?

Mokou: "You the mastermind behind all this?"
Rikako: "Mastermind? Don't flatter me, I'm merely an engineer.
However, I was instructed by a certain someone to build this facility. Would you consider them to be the so-called mastermind?"

Well, no freaking duh. Who was it, though? Do you know?

Mokou: "Where're they now?"
Rikako: "Deep in the facility, I would guess. There's a chief's room down there. It only seems fitting."

Errm... thanks for the information?

Kaguya: "The deepest part... understood. Thank you for telling us!"
Mokou: "We're in a big hurry. You gonna let us through?"
Rikako: "And why would you think I should have to do that?"

Umm... because from my understanding you are albetting a horrible series of deeds and we're here to stop all this?
But of course, villians be villians and thus don't have to listen.

Mokou: "Say what?"
Rikako: "What kind of individual can let slide the rampant destruction of her work?"

Fair point, I suppose, although seriously, you should look at what the hell you're doing and think long and hard about whether it is right or not.

Kaguya: "We truly wish to pass through!"
Rikako: "If you are to pass, tou'll have to do so with force."

Meh, you're a scientist with some magicial prowness. Big deal. We're freaking immortal. You lose by default.

Mokou: "That's how you wanna play? Give it up, it'll be way less painful."
Rikako: "Painful... for me? We'll see..."

Oh no, robots. As if we haven't beaten up enough of them.

Okay, so we have Goldfinger, Blackeye, Silburn, and Rikako herself. Much like other fights, Rikako is the leader, so taking her down will cause Break Down. You'll probably get slammed a bit by the robots, but as long as you keep up your healing you should be fine.

Not a problem.

...We're going to have to go into the Bio Side, aren't we?
...Goddamnit.

...Well this place looks funky.

Errm, yes, we are.

Ant King: "Kyaha! You came here simply to die! You utter morons!"

And you're utterly jumping to conclusions.

Ant King: "Your coming death saddens me so, so I, the great Ant King, shall explain the purpose of this facility!"

Oh...? O-oh, um, yes, we're totally so going to die, so please, bless us with your knowledge so in the afterlife we can despair about how we were unable to stop it, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Ant King: "Kyaha... this facility captures living humans and turns them into liquefied ones. Then, they can be put to work!"

...What. No... no no no no no no no no no. No. You're kidding. We're using the liquefied humans thing.
From the original game.
In Touhou.
...Has Gensokyo just kind of gone to shit or what?

Ant King: "And the strong humans... those are remade as zombies, which serve by fighting!"

...Was that what those Dead Soldiers were from earlier?
...Oh shit.

Ant King: "If any of that gets out, however, I'll certainly get a scolding from Doctor Cindleman..."

Cindleman? That's new information... so does that mean Eirin's innocent?

Ant King: "But you will die right here, so I can gab all I want to you! Kyah ha ha ha haaa!!"

Oh no, you're so totally going to ki- Psych, I was messing with you, Ant King. Prepare to be utterly crushed now.

The Ant King isn't too hard, although if you're dumb, you can get easily killed.

But still, easy.

You probably should have. Now we get to hunt down your master and beat the shit out of him/her!

And he's gone. Right, time to move forward...
Or not, actually. I'm going to stop here for now because I want to keep the updates a fairly decent length, and we've still got about another half of the dungeon to go. So next time, hopefully we'll take care of most of the rest of it. Longish chapter is longish.

Summary:

Treasure: YagoCo Rapidrugs x2, ID Card (F), Crumpled Memo, Castella x2, ID Card (L)

Drops: Who Knows What x2, Strong Parts x12 (YDMT-IV), YagoCo Rapidrugs x2

Identified Items: Ignition Glove (Mokou), Mind Band (Kaguya)

Skills Learned:

Elfire (Mokou): Throws a powerful fireball exactly three spaces in any direction
Hourai Barrage (Kaguya): Powerful all-targeting attack, but debuffs self's IQ
Rafoie (Mokou): Attacks a 3x3 area centered around a single space two tiles away from Mokou in any direction. See example picture for what I mean
Flare (Mokou): Hits either two or three spaces diagonally with a very powerful attack, but has an insanely long charge-up time, to the point where it is utterly useless.

TPKs: 0 this update, 1 this chapter, 1 overall

So remember kids, if you are ever offered YagoCo Rapidrugs by a weird guy in a van, just say no!

A side note, you can't fight the second bonus boss now, if what I've read is true.

Spoiler:
To get one of the ID cards with a number on it you need to fight Rikako WITHOUT causing Break Down, from what I read.  Also just figuring out the number won't work, because after you input the code and go to the area that opens up, there are four computers you need to insert the actual cards into.  Probably to prevent people like me from brute-forcing things by just guessing the missing code.

Oh, really?
...Well that's a shame. Oh well, if you want to see the second bonus boss, well... you're not seeing it from me, because I kind of saved over shit and stuff. Well then. I'll just take down the Forgotten Chimera when the time comes, and that will be that.

If you want to see that bonus boss for yourself, I happen to have a save file with the 4 ID cards in front of the input console.
I could give it to you.
Spoiler:
Maybe you can beat it. Everything I do just misses and on the off-chance that I hit nothing deals damage. It also doesn't feel like an endurance round and if it is one then the timer is really long. And I'm most likely not underleveled since it doesn't manage to annhilate me in two hits. (If that even is said boss and not just something before it.)

I'll think about it. I might just show it off, but not beat it. I've heard it's insanely difficult, and I'm sort of in the mood to finish this chapter ASAP. Speaking of which, got the next update screenshotted and mostly written up. It's another long one. So yeah.
Also on that note, I've already decided what order I'm doing the rest of the chapters in. It's more or less going to be, for the rest of it, the same order which I did the original game, except instead of it being "Hourai-Ice Fairy-Return-Netherworld-Wild West-Gatekeeper-Wild", it'll be "Wild West-Hourai-Ice Fairy-Return-Netherworld-Gatekeeper-Wild." It should more or less evenly distribute the story heavy chapters among the gameplay heavy ones.

Goddamnit, I did the long update thing again.

Hourai Chapter- Part 3: Don't Wait for Truth

So, let's continue on with the Soylent Base. We don't have too much left to go.

...What the hell...?

...I see... what the hell is it doing...?

Cocooned Person: "It's warm... it feels good, but... I'm feeling weak... I need to get out of here..."

...Is that possible?

Calm down! You won't be able to get out of you panic... I think...

Cocooned Person: "It... it HUUURTSSSsss... HELP... meeeee..."

Cocooned Person: "But... what's going... on... I... I... I feel like I'm dying... Aaaannnhhh..."

Yeah...?

Cocooned Person: "No, I don't think you can save me... My body's already liquefying into this cocoon..."

...Sorry we didn't come sooner...

Cocooned Person: "There's nothing to be sad about... I have no regrets... well...
I suppose I wish... I could have been a better person... Ah, forget it..."

...Right...

...I think you've lost it just a bit.

Cocooned Person: "The human vvvillage is... zere... for humansss!
N-Now... they lllive all... over Gen... sogyooo! Zose hhhumans might... get... togezzer!"

...What.

...PLEASANT IMAGES EVERYONE.

Well... no duh. You're being liquefied. It's not pleasant.

Can't really do so anymore, you know...

You're not doing so well...

Huh?

Cocooned Person: Either... you're... liquefied... into a c... cocoon... like... us...
Or you're... rem... ade... in... to... a mon... ster..."

...

...New enemies. Black Ants use some physical attacks, but nothing a good Rafoie and Hourai Barrage can't take care of.

You can't really do anything anymore, you know...

Cocooned Person: "I... I can't feel... my filling..."

...I've been silent through these last several images because I don't have much to say, but, uh... did this guy become addicted to pushing the drum?

This is Takeshi's father! Oh no...
Well... he is doing well... but... you're not...
...

...That's enough. Down we go.

There's still more...?

Yikes... and there's Dead Soldiers everywhere...

Like I said. They're difficult. Best to try avoiding them.

Looks like we're close to out of the Bio Side...

These boxes are all full of YagoCo Rapidrugs...

Meat?

Mokou: "I guess they make food here too? Looks pretty edible to me.
We've been walkin' a while... I'm getting hungry.
.....
...Want some, Kaguya? Tastes pretty good, actually."
Kaguya: "No... I'd rather not..."
Mokou: "Hmph... And here I thought you were a big eater..."

...Uh... Mokou...

Another teleporter.

And the elevator lock. This is the furthest the elevator CAN go, so...

Errm... isn't that... what you just ate?

Mokou: "I don't wanna see the process..."
Kaguya: "Wait.
Mokou... You ate that meat back there. Just... keep that in mind..."
Mokou: "What about the meat?
Sheesh... What's all this about...?"
Kaguya: "Well...
We're about to see for ourselves..."

...And then when we go down another floor...

...

Mokou: "...No way!
...Ugggh!"

...New music. It's actually music from... I think Return Chapter? At least I think it is. It's Heartless Syndrome -Base 3-, based off of Hidden Syndrome and... apparently Fires of Hokkai.

Mokou: "W... What is this?"

...I'm going to stay silent and just let the conversation play out, because... what is there to add?

Mokou: "What the hell is this?!"
Kaguya: "Soylent Base...
It's a facility that liquifies humans using Rafflers, plants that do so automatically, then remakes them into whatever else...
And... That was the purpose of the kidnappings..."
Mokou: "...So that's what that jerk bug was saying..."
Kaguya: "It was all true.
I didn't want to believe it, but...
I just... I couldn't imagine..."

...Did you know?

Mokou: "You knew...?
If you knew... Why didn't you stop it?!"
Kaguya: "I am sorry...
I wasn't confident enough...
I didn't even think they would truly do this to people from the village..."
Mokou: "So you're saying these guys are the people who were kidnapped?!
You gotta be foolin' me..."
Kaguya: "And not just these corpses...
The Dead Soldiers in the forest... The things we've been fighting here...
All of them... were an end of product of those kidnapped humans..."
Mokou: "Why do you know that?
I mean, I thought you didn't know 'bout this facility...?"
Kaguya: "I saw it in some of Eirin's things... She had data on the Soylent Base...
I thought it was a joke... I couldn't imagine it was true...
...But I do know one thing."

...And that is...?

Kaguya: "The mastermind here isn't Eirin."

...Wha... but she had data on it... so if not her, then who...?

Kaguya: "Eirin's data and reports were always written in her own handwriting.
But that data I found was a computer printout."
Mokou: "So whoever printed that out is behind these events...
Well, sweet, right? Don'tcha feel better just knowing that?"

...Why do I imagine Mokou saying that in a scathing voice despite it probably being comforting...?

Kaguya: "...Yes..."
Mokou: "Don't suppose those reports mentioned any kind of name?"

That Ant King mentioned a "Cindleman," so...

Kaguya: "...
I believe...
I believe it wasn't Eirin's name, but rather, "Cindle Reje"..."

Cindle Reje... right... hold on, that sounds familiar... just slightly.

Mokou: "So that's our guy...
Okay... let's go!"

Yeah... no need to continue moping around here. We need to find Cindle Reje and punish him for all of this horror.

Can we open it?

Please insert ID card

...Nope. None of the ID cards we got earlier will open it.

Oh, it's a nice little robot.

Robot: "Squeeeek, tweet tweet... CLANK!!"

...Uh oh...

...Isn't "Clumsy Robot" an Earthbound reference?
Whatever the case, hello boss time. Clumsy Robot can hit hard with Stumble Missile and can heal itself for about as much as... I'd say around three-quarts of an Elfire with Bologna Sandwich.

Stumble Missile is big.

It also hurts a lot.

But we still get him.

...Looks like a prison... or something.

...Oh shit...

...And you're crazy.

...Should I call Utahime? *remembers no one besides a few people will get what I mean*

I have no idea? I think she might just not know...

Trapped Person: "That's why we despise that shrine!"

And Reimu just gets more and more hate...

Huh...

Trapped Girl: "Everyone says that once you're taken out, there's no saving you.
So does that mean you... "die"?
"Die"... what's it like to die? When you "die"... what happens?
Why does everyone "die"?"

...It's biological?

Another crazy one...

Laughing Man: "Why am I laughing?
'Cause I'm gonna die! And you should laugh about it while you've got the chance!
Laughter lets you ease into death!
Ha! That's how you gotta treat things!
I'm tellin' you! It's futile! Ha!"

...I don't know whether to call him crazy, fatalistic, or wise in his own way.

...I don't want to know them...

Trapped Woman: "They might as well fill this floor with liquefied human. Then everyone can be together."

...Woman, you're crazy.

Satisfied Man: "Beds, even if they're hard. And no fear of youkai!
This is the best! And for three long months!
I wonder what I'll do after that?"

Be liquefied and turned into god knows what?

...So that's why there's been so few spirits crossing the Sanzu...

"Spirit" Man: "And when a spirit's gone nuts, it doesn't wanna see anyone normal.
So I'm gonna kill you, too! 'Cause you're too normal!!"

...How about no?

We already had one person go that route, and he nearly caused the end of the world. Don't worry, we'll stop Cindle Reje and let at least you guys out before you get liquefied.

Uh...

Weapon-Desiring Man: "Die!
I'm gonna die here and now!"

...Backing off.

It's Kaede's father! At least you haven't been subjected to liquefication yet...

Kaede's Father: "Please, just let me meet her one more time..."

Don't worry, we'll do our best!

...Uh, yeah.

Hopeful Man: "If you're here, then I suppose this is what I have to say...
You've seen them, haven't you? And killed them, too?
Those monsters who don't even look human anymore... Those ill-fated kidnapped people...
Once we're here, we're not leaving. We're beyond help.
We're just test subjects. Monster bait. And we just have to wait our turn.
But you're different... You're alive, and you're this cage.
Don't let this tragedy go on! Here's the ID card to the chief's room!"

Hell yeah!

Where did you?

Hopeful Man: "Heh heh... one of the patrols dropped it. Easy, huh?
This is all I can do for you. I'm beggin' you!"

Right!

Right, now we can open this.

And here's the chief's room. However, opening this door is more or less a point of no return for the chapter. If you haven't fought the bonus bosses, you should do it now. I can't do one of them because I missed one of the four ID cards, but there is still the Forgotten Chimera.

Yes yes, die die die.

Okay, so, the strategy for this fight? Spam all of your healing items. Seriously. I have no idea how you are supposed to do this otherwise. Just keep YDMT-IV on healing duty with items, and spam Low Kick with Mokou and Robe of Fire Rat with Kaguya. Keep everyone in around the same area.

Of course, I get TPKed. Multiple times.

Essentially my formation for when I did beat it. I had to even dig into the YagoCo Rapidrugs... which I really didn't want to do, but... well...

But I got it at one point.

We get the Chimera Chick for doing that. It boosts ATK and IQ by a bunch. Mokou, I'm giving it to you, for a very good reason.

Now then, let's go back to Eientei!

Eirin and... you...

???: "You should have knocked first. Have some manners, hm?"
Mokou: "So you're our mastermind..."
???: "My, you seem like a powerful lady.
Oh, I apologize...
My name is Cindleman... The "dead-yet-alive" Cindleman..."

..."Dead-yet-alive"? So... you're undead? Or something? Geez... also why the alternate name? Isn't it Cindle Reje?

Eirin: "Princess...
Your detective work, then... was investigating these events..."

No, really? You've gotten yourself mixed up with some pretty gruesome things, Eirin...

Kaguya: "Eirin... why...?
I believed in you..."
Mokou: "...Why would you be so cruel...?
How could you play with people's lives like this...?"
Cindleman: "Oh, I can't say I'm fond of how "cruel" sounds..."

WELL IT'S FUCKING TRUE.

Cindleman: "But, fine, if you like.
You seem prone to reckless courage, so let me explain to you.
To be brief and to the point, we are studying the art f reviving the deceased."

...Ahahahaha, right right, now tell me what you're really doing.

Kaguya: "The deceased...?"
Cindleman: "Precisely...
We already know that, with the Hourai Elixir, it is possible in this world to grant one still living eternal life..."

Well yeah, but that got branded by itself as forbidden magic by the Lunarians.

Cindleman: "But what of the deceased...?
Even here, they cannot be revived. Rather, they are sent to the netherworld."

And they are often happy there! You ever think about that?

Cindleman: "That is why we research a means to conquer death.
And why would we do this?... [sic]
To achieve mankind's dream of transcending death...!"
Mokou: "Enough!!"

Yeah, enough. Spout your bullshit all you want, I don't see any sort of "conquering of death" going on. All I see is people being turned into drugs and monsters.

Mokou: "Who gives a crap about your dream?! There's damn good reason to kidnap and murder people!!"
Cindleman: "It seems such an ordinary person couldn't ever understand..."

Understand what? YOU'RE KIDNAPPING AND MURDERING PEOPLE. YOU. ARE. IN. SANE.

Cindleman: "Every great achievement must have its sacrifices..."

Aghahghaghaghahgah, shut up shut up shut up!

Cindleman: "But things have gone rather awry..."

IT'S A LOT MORE THAN "AWRY," REJE.

Cindleman: "The human body can be revived, but not the spirit, it seems..."

Well no shit. That's why human transmutation in Fullmetal Alchemist doesn't freaking work.

Cindleman: "They're reborn as monsters and the person and memory is lost...
Their cells degrade quickly as well. Their lifespan is only about a month...
I lack materials necessary to my experiments...
That's why, every day, I must restock my ingredients."

...You regard humans as "ingredients"?
...You sir, are freaking mental...

Cindleman: "Do you comprehend now? If so...
Since you made it here, you must be quite skilled...
You'll be perfect test subjects for my latest creation..."

...What latest creation...?

Eirin: "Doctor, please wait!
I thought you promised you wouldn't hurt them!"
Cindleman: "I will not let this opportunity pass!
Come, Death Knight! Give these girls a painful end!!"

Oh give me a freaking break...

...Nuts...

Death Knight: "I..... KI... LL.....
I WILL... KILL YOU..."
Mokou: "It's coming!"

And here's the Death Knight. Okay, this fight can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing. However, like the Forgotten Chimera, it's a case of thwacking away at it at close range while spamming heals. Kaguya should be able to use her spells for this.

Whew. There we go. He's pretty hard if you don't keep a good healing-attacking rhythm going.

His helmet fell off...

Mokou: "That face...
Where have I...?"
Death Knight: "What am I...?
Why am I in this body...?"

He spoke normally!

Death Knight: "You're... from Miss Keine's..."

And... he knows us?

Kaguya: "I remember!
You're Watanabe's father!"

...You know, that's not necessarily a good thing... the death rate of the father of anyone named "Watanabe" in this game is pretty high...

Death Knight: "Tell me...
My son... is he doing well...?"
Mokou: "Y-Yeah! He's safe at Keine's...!"
Death Knight: "I see...
That's...
Wonder... ful..."

...And he's dead...

Cindleman: "Uwhawhawha...
It's always good to see parents thinking of their children.
Just before death, his memory came back... It seems I've made a step forward."

...Shut. Up. Now.

Mokou: "I won't let this stand..."
Kaguya: "No, you idiot! We must run!"

Kaguya, why? We've got the bastard cornered! We need to beat the shit out of him now!

Kaguya: "Against Eirin, we're at a disadvantage!"

...Argh, point taken. Let's go!

Sorry Eirin, we're not taking chances. Also, uh, YDMT-IV... you might want to run.

Oh there it goes.

Glad to see you've come to your senses, Eirin.

Eirin: "You broke a promise. We can work together no longer."

...And it wasn't the freaking appalling nature of the research that has finally caused you to stop?
...*sigh*... I guess either way...

Eirin: "I don't care about money anymore... I'll just need to find another way."

So you did it for financial reasons... I see. I don't agree with that in the slightest, but... well. desparation, I guess?

...Uh-oh...

Cindleman: "Too bad, really. You were the only one who understood my genius.
...If you will not assist anymore, you are no use to me.
Time to disappear."

Uh, yeah, Reje... you do realize who Eirin IS, right?

Eirin: "I'm not the kind of girl who can be erased so easily."

Kick his ass, Eirin!

Cindleman: "Uwhawhawha...
I have no reason to fight you.
...I've had something more suitable planned for you."

You were planning on offing her as soon as the research was complete, weren't you?

...Oh shit...

...These are zombie rabbits...?

Cindleman: "Do you remember these girls...?"

Huh?

Eirin: "...No...!"
Cindleman: "By no, I believe you mean yes!
When you were to take back your princess... You betrayed your orders, and killed these Lunarian soldiers instead!"

...And you summoned them back in order to kill Eirin in an ironic fashion...?
Uh... wouldn't Eirin just be able to kill them again... or something?

Cindleman: "And I'll have you know it's no use attacking me. For I need not order them at all!
Their hearts are full of anger and hatred for you! They wish to kill you of their own volition!
Do you understand why undead like these would want to attack the living?
These girls hate the living death is a painful thing! What they seek is companions!
I heard their wish of life, and I granted it... Although granted, perhaps not in the most satisfying of ways!
How long have they waited to kill the one who killed their brethren...?"

...Goddamnit... you're a necromancer, aren't you?
...Hahahahahahaha, ahahahahahahaha, goddamnit... I'll make sure you suffer when I get the chance. No one, and I mean no one, has the right to defile the dead.

Eirin, you might want to do something about now...

...Dropping a vent on one of their heads was not what I expected.

Hey hey hey, looks like Mokou and Kaguya came back for you!

Mokou: "There's still things we gotta ask you...
Leave this to me, and escape with Kaguya!"
Eirin: "...I understand.
...I'm sorry."

Apologies can come later, escaping comes now!

...You're having the robot yukkuri pull the rope?
...Seems legit.

Hell no!

Okay, Mokou has to take on these Lunatic Zombies alone. Stay out of their diagonals, or they'll use Double Shot and drop you like you were hot. Which Mokou is, in a sense.

Elfire, Rafoie, and the occasional Self-Flame will do the trick.

You will also get Al-Phoenix from this fight, regardless of level.

Surprised, Reje? Don't be.

Cindleman: "It's not over yet!
The time to use IT has come!
Uwhawhawhawha!!"

...Do I want to know what this "it" is?

We also get a save point here (which I will not show because spoilers from my first slot save), which I will use. And that will be our cutoff point for this update. What does Eirin have to say about Cindle Reje? What is this "it" he is planning to use? Will we be able to resolve this entire incident once and for all? Next time is going to be the finale for this chapter, seeing as I've already screenshotted it, just not written it yet. I'm efficient! Somewhat!

Summary:

Treasure: YagoCo Rapidrugs x8, Key Card (W)

Drops: YagoCo Rapidrugs x2, Chimera Chick (Mokou)

Skills Learned:

Al-Phoenix (Mokou): Seeing as this was a specially learned skill we'll get to see the use of next time, I'll go over it in special detail then.

TPKs- 4 this update, 5 this chapter, 5 overall

It's funny how the TPK counter can spike like that when I'm being dumb. Oh well...

Partway through making this update, I stopped and beat IN's Extra stage. Poor Mokou, getting killed over and over again. Oh well, let's conclude her story here as a memorial for her.

Hourai Chapter- Finale: Rage Burns Eternal

Okay, so, last time we escaped from the Soylent Base with Eirin in tow. Let's see what she has to say regarding Cindle Reje.

Well, besides the obvious things.

Eirin: "He usually calls himself Cindleman. He's a scientist from the outside world.
He came to Gensokyo and apparently became a necromancer."

As I thought. Crazy bastard...

Mokou: "Necromancer?"
Keine: "A reviver of the dead...
Basically, a magician who revives dead creatures as zombies or skeletons."

Pretty much. It's some pretty dark magic.

Kaguya: "So, Eirin was cooperating with him for our sake, was she...?"
Eirin: "Yes, but...
I, myself... Had some interest in his research..."

So in other words, you were a spy of sorts, but at the same time, were doing it because "I WANNA RESURRECT PEOPLE TOO!!!"?

Eirin: "And, also...
Eientei was in financial crisis. I was forced to cooperate for the money..."
Mokou: "So that's it..."

Well... yeah...sometimes you're forced to do horrible things in desperation.

Kaguya: "...
This is my fault...
It's all because of my lazy lifestyle..."

Errm... it's not like that fully caused it. I mean, Eirin's business is mainly based around selling medicine and acting more or less as Gensokyo General Hospital. If there's not much needfor medicine, business kind of falters.

Eirin: "Don't say that, princess...
My own business was to blame, too..."
Patchouli: "Calm down."

We are calm, Patchy. Just kind of trying to make personal amends with each other.

Patchouli: "There's no point in arguing over who's responsible for what right now.
The pressing matter here is, what is he going to do next?"

Point taken. Reje's still got something up his sleeve, from what we know.

Eirin: "...A robot."

Oh yeah, there was that robot they were working on...

Eirin: "Did you see it? That giant robot is probably going to attack the village..."
Mokou: "What...
What kind of weapons are on that robot?"
Eirin: "At the very least, it's equipped with a weapon I made that emits poison gas..."
Kaguya: "Is he trying to massacre the whole village?!"

Apparently so, although wouldn't that be majorly counterproductive? After all, he needs LIVING humans to liquefy... right?

Keine: "If that happens, it'll have no small impact on the rest of Gensokyo!!"

Yeah... we need to stop it!

Kaede: "There's a robot in the basement of Mr. Rinnosuke's store!
Can't that fight it?"
Takashi: "Yeah! Giant robot showdown!"

I love how the kids are here listening on to this conversation, which is of a pretty dark nature. Oh well.
Also, yeah, the Patchouli Robo. That might be able to stop it.

Kaguya: "How did you know that...?"

Good question. How *did* the kids know that?

Rinnosuke: "That won't work, I'm afraid..."

Huh?

Rinnosuke: "Right now, the only thing that can move it is a liquefied creature.
If we had another month or so, we could get it moving with magic, but..."

So in order words, we either liquefy someone to power the robot in order to stand a chance, or we just do our best on our own? Sounds like we're kind of stuck here...

Eirin: "Obviously we don't have time for that!
He's going to act fast! It could be before the day is over!"
Mokou: "Crap...! Is this it...? After we came so far...?!"

Looks like it...

YDMT-IV?

...You're kidding...

Patchouli: "Do... Do you even know what you're saying?!"

And Cry-A-Live comes in just to make it worse... geez game.

Patchouli: "Liquefied creatures are used as fuel... You would never come back!"
YDMT-IV: "YDMT-IV will...
Will..."
Mokou: "M... Moron!
There's no reason for you to get involved in this!!"

Err... well... she was the children's pet before becoming a fluid android, so...

YDMT-IV: "But if YDMT-IV doesn't do it, then who will?!"

...

YDMT-IV: "If YDMT-IV does it... She can save the children and the teacher...
YDMT-IV will do it!!"
Keine: "...
You're certain... you need to do this...?"
Kaguya: "Miss Keine! This is... cruel!"
Keine: "...
She's speaking for the children... She wants to prevent their slaughter...
She's the key that can do it... She means what she says.
This is her last wish... Is now the time for us to grant it...?"

If she says she's going to do it... well...
...

Kaguya: "...
Sometimes this world is irrational..."

Welcome to fucking Gensokyo, Kaguya. If you're not being irrational, you're doing it wrong.

Kaguya: "Sometimes, peace must come at the expense of some..."
Patchouli: "We can't waste any more time. Let us prepare for takeoff!"

Right. Let's go...

And here we are, inside the machine.

Eirin: "We can leave at any time."

Alright... then we need to go as soon as possible.

Patchouli: "Thanks."
Kaguya: "Eirin, you need to leave now."

Huh? But why?

Mokou: "The three of us are going."
Eirin: "...
I'm not sure how to say this...
There [sic] people out there who know courage like you do are few in number..."

vgperson, you done typoed.

Eirin: "But the amounts you can save with that courage are immeasurable.
...I'm glad I was able to be here.
Even if I was the fool who caused it all...
...May you be happy."

Well, it's not like you were the one who caused everything. The real mastermind is Cindle Reje. And we're going to make him pay.

Let's start this!

Patchouli: "Vernier units normal! All systems green!"

Here we go...!

Keine: "Mokou... Miss Kaguya... Miss Patchouli...
And YDMT-IV...
For the sake... of the human village...!"

And the full version of Go! Go! Patchouli Robo!! plays! Hell yeah, let's do this!

Alright, let's go!

Sorry Reje, but we've got the time advantage. There's no way we're letting you get your robot out that quickly!

Cindleman: "Send out the tanks!!! We need more time!"

And we're in a battle... although it proceeds automatically. Just sit back and watch the ass-kicking.

Yeah, no problem for the Patchouli Robo!

Kaguya: "Here come the next!"
Patchouli: "They're trying to stall us until theirs gets going!
Don't let that happen!!"

Sure thing!

More Story of Eastern Wonderland references.

I skipped most of the stuff, seeing as it would be kind of boring.

That hurt it, though!

Looks like we're kicking ass!

Uh-oh...

Kaguya: "They've already gotten it working!!"

...Nuts... We better stop it, then!

Patchouli: "What is that wretched design...?
Smash it!!"

No problem!

...Holy fuck that's ugly.

Let's just attack it.

...What.

Errm... Babylon Kick?

Still crappy damage?

Royal Flare!?

This thing's nuts...

Uh-oh...

Owwww...

I'd assume so!

Patchouli: "It's not taking damage!!"
Mokou: "What're we supposed to do?!"
Kaguya: "If we're ineffective on the outside...
Let's attack the inside!!"

That's... a good idea, actually.

Mokou: "We'll smash it from within!!"
Patchouli: "Got it!
Get on the two-person escape pod!! I'll shoot you somewhere you can enter!!
Use this to stay in touch!!"
Mokou: "Hey, it's..."

Right, let's go!

Patchouli: "Destroying it unarmed may be difficult...
So there's a bomb in the escape pod! Use it!"

How convinent!

Patchouli: "I'll watch you from here! I'm counting on you!!"

Right, let's go. Seriously now.

Mokou: "All ready...!
Let's do this!

Whee, in we go!

Looks like a cave to me.

Kaguya: "I'll head down to the reactor. Mokou, head up to the control room and defeat whoever's in control!!"
Mokou: "Got it!!"

Alright, let's go.

Well, if you say so!

These rooms have some enemies, but they are easy to avoid.

Up in the control room... you HAVE to fight these guys.

More Dead Soldiers, but this time, we have...

...the almighty power of AL-PHOENIX.

Just aim like that, and...

We can do lots of damage!

Between that and Self-Flame, this fight is easy.

Yays!

Kaguya: "There should be a switch to open the reactor door! Press it!!"
Mokou: "This one?"

Looks like that was the one.

Kaguya: "Time to place the bomb and escape!!"

...Shit

Emergency! Emergency!
A malfunction has been detected originating in the reactor...

...You're kidding...

She's burning alive, thanks for asking!

Kaguya: "It doesn't look like I can escape..."

Shit...

Kaguya: "Mokou!! It's dangerous here!!
It's leaking liquefied human...! You'll be liquefied too!!"

Uh... we can resurrect after being liquefied... right?

Mokou: "Kaguya!! I'm coming to help!!
Kaguya: "Don't come for me!!
You need to escape, now! I'll be fine!!"

Well, she is immortal, so... it's not like she's going to really "die," is she?

Mokou: "No way! I can't let you do that!!
Patchouli: Get away from there, or you're done for!
Get out of there, quick!!"

Ahem. Immortality. They both have it. I'm pretty sure they will just come back... or something.

Mokou: "Kaguya...
You knew this would happen all along, didn't you?!
You knew, and still sacrificed yourself..."

This feels like a Final Fantasy V reference. Anyone else getting that feeling?

Kaguya: "I'm going to be okay! Believe me!!
Ending communications!!"
Mokou: "KAGUYAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"

Errm... Mokou... she's immortal.

Err... okay then. It's not like this is the end, right? The Hourai Elixir's going to kick in and you'll be fine... right?

Kaguya: "But if I told you, you wouldn't have come...
This was our affair to begin with...
There was no need for you to get involved..."

...Okay...?

Kaguya: "You have many friends in Miss Keine and the children at the school...
Don't disappear like this useless woman...!"

...Again. Hourai. Elixir. You'll. Be. Fine.

...And hello there burning flames and liquefied human, how's it going?

She's not that idiotic if she resurrects.

Mokou: "Going it alone, trying to look cool...
Without Kaguya...
Who am I...
Who am I supposed to fight?!?!"

The Hakurei Shrine Maiden? Eirin? Any number of people across Gensokyo?
Sorry I'm breaking up any tragedy, but seriously, why isn't Mokou remembering that KAGUYA IS FUCKING IMMORTAL AND WILL PROBABLY SURVIVE THIS? THE DRAMA IS UNNECESSARY.

Oh shit...

Go the fuck away, Reje. Also hello there, The Demon King Odio. How's it going? Funny you'd play here when Odio's long gone, but, well...

Cindleman: "In my great search for materials, I've come across something unbelievable!
Liquefied essence from an immortal...
Surely, it would be an inexhaustible fuel!!
As much as I hate to lose this robot... This is far more valuable, so I'm perfectly fine with it!"

...You better fucking not.

Mokou: "It's all "materials" to you!! Everything's damn lab supplies!!
How can you be so uncaring?!"
Cindleman: "I don't see why you can't understand..."

Reje, it's called "morals." You severely lack them.

Cindleman: "...Although...
Given your immortal body... You're hardly human at all!
Yes, that's why! You're not a human! You're a monster, with its own flawed mind! Of course you don't understand!!"

...Wow, you are fucking clueless, aren't you? You sick, twisted fuck, you have no fucking sense of morals, do you?

Mokou: "Maybe my body ain't human..."

Although it is, technically speaking.

Ohh, fuck yeah, Mokou is pisssssssssed.

Mokou: "Now it's time..."

IT'S BOSS TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME WITH OUR GOOD FRIEND MEGALOMANIA. KICK HIS SORRY FUCKING ASS.

Okay, so Cindleman/Cindle Reje/whatever you want to call him (I prefer Reje, for a few reasons). He's really not that tough. He can hit you with Cane Whack, which can take about half your health, or Nightmare, which can inflict Sleep, but has like no actual damaging power. Just alternate between Self-Flame and Al-Phoenix, while staying close to him so that he doesn't spam Nightmare.

Yeah, no problems here.

Looks like we got him!

Mokou: "!!
The robot was pretty trashed before, but I don't think that fight helped! Is the whole thing going down now?!
I don't wanna give up on Kaguya...
I want us all to come home!!!
Waaaaaugh!!
Just wait, Kaguya!!
Someday...
Someday I'll come save you!!
'Cause I'm not lettin' nobody get away with not payin' a debt!!!!"

...Shit... Did she get crushed...?
...Oh wait, immortality, hurr fucking durr.

?

???: "Hey...
HEY!!"

Whozat?

...Wha...

Mokou: "Huh...?
Ah...
Okay!"

...AND CREDITS.
I'm sorry, but, what? That just... ended. Like that. Was it all a dream or something?

Looks like Eirin and Tewi are fine... Where's Reisen, though?

...The robot is there, so I guess everything wasn't a dream?

Looks also like Patchy and Rikako are swapping ideas. At least we didn't kill her!

Yay it's the end!

And sepia Mokou is finished time. Oh wow, that was a long chapter. Whew. I need a break from the story heavy stuff...

Next time, then, we'll be doing Ice Fairy Chapter! Where there's like... very little plot!

TPKs: 0 this update, 5 this chapter, 5 overall

Pretty sure Hourai Chapter is meant to be a flashback Mokou is having, hence the intro where the player is being spoken to.

That's likely to be the case, since the original was the same, and is even said as such in the opening cutscene.
(The 'Are you happy?' part way back was even lifted whole-hog. Though most here likely already know that.)

Ice Fairy Chapter- Prologue: I Wanna Be the Strongest

Let's start a chapter. Before I post pictures, opening cutscene theme is The Strongest ~Bakatory Load~, which is an Ultimate Strength ~Victory Road~ and Tomboyish Girl in Love remix.
Also, vgperson, it should be "Bakatory Road," not "Bakatory Load." I know rs and ls are weird in Japanese, but uh... yeah.

Wouldn't it be kind of hard to tell who is the strongest unless you tested everyone in the world against each other?

The artwork for Cirno is kind of weird looking, so uh... Namekoneko, while I appreciate it, uh...

The idea of Cirno having a miniature gym is somehow cute.

Good luck with that.

...Fairy. Strongest Fairy.

Well no, really?

Who is that strongest one?

So you've decided to become Mega Man?

Maybe.

You can kick it!

...Or have it rebound in your face.

You hope. Sadly, Reimu and others will still look down on you, regardless.

Indeed you do, otherwise this might be... uh... hard.

"Haa!"

Alright, this chapter is weird. You essentially fight these six guys in whatever order you want. Each one has two abilities to learn by getting hit with them. I will do them all in the next update. Can we defeat Hina, Medicine, Yuuka, that old guy from the original game whose name I forget, Suika, and Letty? And once we do, what next? Next time... we'll at least deal with these six guys.

Before we end off, though, have Flower Viewing Mound..., which is a remix of Martial Arts Masters and... I believe PoFV's title theme based off of the title, but it just sounds like Theme of Eastern Story either way, so that's how I'm going to list it in the "based off of" portion of the song description.

Thank you. ^^;
Also, I already screenshotted and beat the entire chapter already, although I might hold off on making the updates for it because I feel lazy. I should get up at least the first of the two updates tomorrow, and maybe both if I am motivated enough.

Spoiler:
I hate the final boss so, so much. Tsuda spam for the win, yeah, but good luck getting it to land right from the start...

This is an update brought to you by utter laziness.

Ice Fairy Chapter- Part 1: The Strongest Challenge

Alright, let's go up against these six guys in order to beat them and learn their skills.

But first... how does Cirno have more IQ than James? Like holy crap. I know Cirno has only 25 IQ because Masaru also had only 25 IQ in the original game, but seriously.

First off, let's fight Letty. She's the easiest of the six in my opinion.

A fairy that rules over the winter. Specializes in manipulating snow and ice to attack with snowstorms.
She's not too skilled at danmaku, but how strong is she really...?

Skills   Ice Blast
           White-Mute

Technically she's not a fairy, but hey we can forgive that just slightly, I guess?

Letty Whiterock: "But if one does not take such a mistaken path, I wonder, can greater power be achieved at all?"

No clue, but hey, let's fight. Also, during battle introductions, Versus! plays.

Alright, first battle! Our battle theme for this chapter is Knock ⑨ Down!, a remix of Knock You Down! and Tomboyish Girl in Love. Excuse the strange volume changes, I have no idea what the MIDI to MP3 converter I used did to the track.
As for Letty you want to stay out of her diagonal, as she has an attack that can inflict instant death along that. Otherwise, her attacks are easy to learn.

Cirno herself starts out with only two skills:

Perfect Freeze: Attacks two tiles away from Cirno in any direction.
Frost Repair: Heals Cirno slightly

And here's our first attack we can learn.

Ice Blast is simply an attack that hits a single tile up to three tiles away in any direction. Useful for taking out the next boss we're going for from a distance.

And here's White-Mute.

It has a pretty large charge-up, but it deals heavy damage to the entire screen, so it's not too bad. Let's actually use it ourselves, as risky as that is in this situation.

Hey, did someone get hurt back there?

Huh...

Letty: "Don't get in the way of a fight between maidens!!"

Yeah, you have to use White-Mute in order to get Absolute Zero. It's basically White-Mute on crack, but the charge-up is even LONGER. It's a rather risky attack to use.

Indeed.

And I finish her off pretty easily.
As a note, after every battle, you gain a level, which helps out in the upcoming battles.

Indeed.

Next up: Hina

A misfortune-absorbing god. Since she has to spin to absorb misfortune, she's developed some powerful rotating skills.

Skills   Spin Drive
                Exiled Doll

Hina Kagiyama: "With my rotary attacks, I'll suck up your misfortune AND your confidence!"

Alright, Hina... she's not too tough either, but that's only if you stay on top of healing and such.

This attack actually hits sort of hard and causes Cirno to be knocked back, but hey, learning it allows you to do the same thing.

Exiled Doll is not as powerful, but it is full-screen. Cirno's can learn this as...

Snow Down. Not only is it a fullscreen, but it covers the field in Ice tiles. Handy!

And that ended fairly well.

Indeed!

And Medicine is the next one!

A poisonous being living within suzuran flowers. She uses the plants to attack with poisonous fog.
Hoping to attain power comparable to humans, she's had her eyes on Cirno during her head for the top.

Skills   Clouder
           Ill Storm

Medicine Melancholy: "Very well, I'll bring you down little by little. I'll make you suffer swiftly from my poison!"

So... you're going to make Cirno suffer... yet you're also going to defeat her little by little?
Okay then...

Medicine is tougher than the first two, mainly because all of her skills hit hard and can inflict Poison.

Clouder?

It has a chance to inflict Instant Death for no reason. For a learnable skill, that's dangerous to attempt learning...

So yeah, first TPK.

Well yeah, I know that. Also, Wounded All Over... plays here, which is pretty much a slower version of Flower Viewing Mound...

Clouder grants Icikill, which has a range of only one tile horizontally or vertically right next to Cirno. It can inflict Instant Death, but generally isn't useful, at least in this chapter.

Medicine's Ill Storm (which causes Poison tiles to appear) grants Harsh Blizzard, which is basically an Ice version of Mokou's Pyrokinesis. Not so handy now, but it might be handy at some other point.

And she's down. After getting TPKed 5 times against her.

Ehh... you did inflict poison. A lot. It hurt.

Next: Suika.

Currently living in the Hakurei Shrine. One of the few oni in Gensokyo.
With her power to manipulate density, she has many mischievious attacks to unleash on unsuspecting opponents.

Skills   Throwing Mt. Togakushi
           Minion Strike

Well, Cirno has a boatload of confidence, so...

Suika Ibuki: "But that feelin's not enough, 'cause you'd be no match even'f I wa' sober!"

Well, I can still beat you! Maybe!

I somehow forgot just to do the normal "THIS IS BEGINNING OF BATTLE" picture. Suika can hit hard, but seeing as she is slow and her attacks a bit more melee-based, she's not overly difficult. Death Penalty is learned from Throwing Mt. Togakushi, and it is a powerful single target attack with a range of two spaces away from Cirno in any direction... I think. I forget the actual range. Also, the attack has a bit of a charge-up time, but not as much as White-Mute.

And Minion Strike grants Option Orbit, which is essentially Ice Blast with one less tile of range and a bit more power behind it.

And down goes Ibuki.

Can an oni drink too much?

Next to last, let's go with Moribe. He's actually one of the fighters you battle in the equivalent original chapter of Live-A-Live. I guess he came to Gensokyo after being killed by Odie Oldbright.

During his life, he was a master of bare-handed killing. He's now a ghost settled down in the human village.
With his mastery of powerful secret abilities, he's defeated many kinds of people.
Skills   Tsuda
           Abise-Geri

Well that's because you're not from Gensokyo originally.

Moribe Seishi: "Perhaps that man who surpassed me has led others onto the path of becoming the strongest...?"

Masaru? Wouldn't he be in the outside world, though?

Moribe is mainly a close-ranged fighter who likes using attacks that cause special effects, such as Turn Around (as I call it) and debuffs.

Abise-Geri hits at the same range as Perfect Freeze, but has the additional effect of causing Turn Around, which can cancel an opponent's attacking charge-up and make them waste time. Granted, it's difficult to know when to use, seeing as you can't tell really if an opponent is in the middle of charging up.

Tsuda is freaking godly. It has a range of only one tile away from Cirno in any direction, but it debuffs all stats, including level. And the debuffs stack. Spam Tsuda against an opponent enough, and they become wet tissue paper.

Doesn't prevent TPKs if you don't spam it, though.

Ehh... you were just lucky.

Only one TPK against him. He's not too bad, but he can be a bit tough to hit because of accuracy stuff.

Thanks! We'll keep going! Just make sure to treat those wounds of yours!

Last but not least, Yuuka.

Often regarded as the strongest youkai in Gensokyo. A very old youkai that loves flowers.
She's said to have settled a past incident as well. Her strength is unmatched.

Skills   Razor Leaf
           Solar Beam

Yuuka Kazami: "But you'll soon learn you can't do anything with mere courage!"

Maybe not, but we kind of do have some levels going for us, so...

Yuuka is tricky to get both her skills for. For one thing, she hits hard. For another, one of her skills not only is hard to trigger, but it also is a "HP to one" attack.

Diamond Cutter is learned from Razor Leaf. I forget its exact range, but it hits diagonally, I'm pretty sure. I don't end up really using it too much.

Oh hey TPK.

Ehh...

Solar Beam grants Ice Beam. Solar Beam itself is the HP-to-one attack, while Ice Beam is a charge up attack that, while strong, doesn't really end up being too helpful.

I beat her after a couple of tries, although I ended up not getting Ice Beam. Oh well.

Well, she's a fairy. Her life would be a rather simple and happy one if you think about it.

And for defeating those six bosses, we get a saving screen. Why is that? Is there something more beyond the six bosses? Next time on the finale, we'll find out.

Summary:

TPKs: 8 this update, 8 this chapter, 14 overall

Well I just freaking more than doubled my total TPK count. Geez game, lighten up.

I just realized I made that italics error in the last update. I need to be better at that than this.

Ice Fairy Chapter- Finale: Rage of the Strongest

Alright, let's see what's after that save screen.

Hmm? Who's there?

...Uh... hello there...
...Why is Demon King Odio starting to play now?

???: "For Gungrey Jibalt shall be the strongest in the world!"

Oh hey, this guy... wants to be the strongest too? Okay...
Also hey, the name is familiar again. That's... three times now.
Well... no, no, I won't explain more until next chapter. By then, it'll be clear what I'm talking about, for those not necessarily in the know.

Gungrey: "I'm the strongest one you seek to challenge...
Masaru Takahara disappeared before my eyes."

Wait a minute, Masaru?! What do you mean he disappeared...?

Gungrey: "I chased him around the world, learning powerful techniques at every stop!"

Ohh... so you were trying to challenge him?
Wait... that's right, he would have been considered the "strongest" at the end of Live-A-Live, wouldn't he of?

Gungrey: "And yet, I am still not the strongest..."

Well... it's not like you won the title or anything. You'd have to actually beat Masaru, I would imagine.

Gungrey: "So I'll kill you... And once this little ice cube has been melted...
Only I shall be the strongest!
Be proud to know that you shall be the foundation for my glory!"

Uh... Gungrey... there's two things wrong with your plan.
One, Cirno has not been considered the "strongest" yet. Remember, she got her ass handed to her by that "strongest one" before the events of the chapter. So killing her does nothing for you.
Two, you are assuming you CAN kill her. She's a fairy. She can't die. She'll just pop back up somewhere a bit dazed, but otherwise fine. So have fun attempting to smash a fairy to the end of your human life!

Cirno is unimpressed.

Cirno: "Kill me? Melt me?
How cold-hearted..."

Kind of ironic you say that, seeing as you're... you know... an ice fairy.

Cirno: "You're not becoming the strongest...
You're just an insane murderer!!"

Yeah pretty much.

Cirno: "With Hina's rotating moves...
Medicine's mist abilities...
Yuka's [sic] flower power..."

...Sorry I'm interuptting this, but seriously? You couldn't have phrased Yuuka's ability better?

Cirno: "Suika's sheer might...
Letty's icy skills...
Old man Moribe's ancient secrets...!
And...
With my own strength!"

Let's do this!

One final battle, Cirno versus Gungrey Jibalt. Who will win!?

Right, so, Gungrey. He is pretty much THE hardest of the final bosses of each of the seven chapters. He can dodge your attacks easily, he hits hard, he hits fast, he can buff himself, and in general he's quite a challenge. I started with a random strategy of "run to corner, use Absolute Zero, and pray." That's a very luck-based strategy.

BECAUSE SOMETIMES HE CAN USE THIS ATTACK

Attempting to express Demon King Odio in written sounds aside, thankfully you don't have to be sent to the title screen to re-attempt the fight, just press the confirm key/Z/whatever.

Also, after a couple of TPKs, I realized a much, much better strategy: Tsuda spam. This strategy works as long as you can land the first Tsuda. Due to his high evasion thanks to his high level (I would imagine), doing so is hard. However, if you can land a good chain of Tsudas against him...

Can you say "his basic physical attack does 0 damage to you?"

And he's as good as done now.

Surprised a fairy managed to beat you?

Jibalt: "Ha...
Th...
This won't be the end..."

Don't tell me you have another phase...

Jibalt: "One after another...
Others like me will surely appear...
And as they lust for power... They will take whatever means necessary without regard for life..."

Ohh... that sounds rather dangerous. And also... rather helpful of you yourself. This kind of makes me seriously wonder whether or not Gungrey was just testing Cirno, or something.

Jibalt: "...
And yet, you...
From the bottom of your heart, you believe...
And you will never part with those beliefs... will you...?"

Not particularly. Again, this seriously makes me wonder to what extent was that him being nuts or him attempting a test of some sort.

And he fell over. Well... we beat him!

Huh?

Cirno: "?!"

Hey!

???: "My name is Masaru Takahara..."

Hey Masaru, how's it going?

Masaru: "Which of us is the strongest now...?"

Oh, so are you going to fight?

I guess so!

Whew, and credits for this chapter already. Not a very long one, but hey, it's challenging for this game.

Hinaaaaaaa

Creeeeditss

Thank you for teaching me what I needed to beat Gungrey!

And of course the picture is of him using Tsuda against me.

You were hard. Like... I got the most TPKs out of anyone from you.

More credits and getting poisoned while we're at it.

Your physical attacks are decent, but you were still an easy fight.

Throwing Mt. Togakushi looks like it would hurt. A lot.

Letttttty.

Oh hey, it's that Instant Death attack she has that I didn't show off because you can't learn it.

Except I didn't get Solar Beam's skill from you. Oh well.

Why leaves can hurt, I have no clue. I mean, they're not THAT sharp, are they?

Hey Gungrey Jibalt, you have no nameplate here.

Are you like... stomping on me or something?

And the end. Whew, finally.

Now that we have that done, next time, we're going to do Return Chapter. This might also be something, but it's less a "oh this is difficult" thing and more a "this is going to be a pain in the ass to write up" thing.

Summary:

TPKs: 3 this update, 11 this chapter, 17 overall

That counter shouldn't rise too much over the next couple chapters. I hope.

You've mentioned the hidden skill you can get from Letty but there is another blank space in the attack list if you get every regular move + that one. So there is another secret one I suppose. (But I don't have a clue if that is true and if so then where to get it.)

But don't underestimate Return's capability of increasing the TPK counter (depending on how you count, of course).
Spoiler:
And I hope that you completed that great mini-game on hard. :V

That last skill slot? Uhh... I'm not sure about that myself. I don't think you can fill it during the chapter.
I will count for Return, thanks to its nature, any game over as a TPK. I won't underestimate it, but I'm going to be careful and HOPEFULLY do a deathless run of it.
Spoiler:
Also I've never really finished Working Cube on either difficulty before, so... I don't know what that gets you.

Spoiler:
Normal gets you nothing and I couldn't figure out the last stage on hard. But I doubt that you get anything out of it.
I remember some spots where there was just not much space to maneuver which got me killed rather often. But i was also too stubborn to walk all the way around and wanted to take the straight way, so there's that.
