With the game out in Europe and the demo up on the eShop, I figure we could use a thread here.

I've barely scratched the surface of the demo, but a few thoughts:

- oh god the hats, THE HATS, it's like 4 heroes of light without being terrible, all my class decisions are solely based on hats
- red mage/ninja is a surprisingly amazing combo, evade and get paid for it
- oh my god the music
- oh my god THE MUSIC

S'yeah.  Probably picking this up come February 7th!

I saw this in Game and was tempted to buy it because I'd heard it's name bantered around here.

Then I realized it had not been linked with 'Good' or 'Bad' or 'Average' yet; and it was still full price; so I decided to wait for more info/less monehs spent on it.

I don't even remember who put the above in my sig. [Wasn't me] Nor do I understand why I keep it here anymore.
Those two facts sum me up pretty well.

It's widely regarded as good if you're a FF sort of guy.

But that would take away from the majesty that is Performer Ringabel so I'll accept that.
This is the first time in basically forever I am getting a game on release and the special edition to boot because DAT SOUNDTRACK AHHHH :*

Chapters 5+ are poorly executed. The rest is pretty good, though the game is ridiculously easy to cheese your way through.

Yessssss, a Bravely Default thread!!! I have played this game for idunno how long (60h+) and I'm still not done with it. It's just so awesome and fun and all of the side things and other stuff.

The collectors/special/deluxe edition is imo totally worth it. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and the artbook is pretty cool. (Also, living in Europe I also got the figurine) If you're really hyped for the game, then everything is completely worth it.

How many chapters are there? I'd think that the final bosses and whatnot would at least be impressive...

Regardless: I preordered the Special Edition, it's worth paying for if you can spare the cash :3c

There are technically 8 chapters for the True End, but you can get another ending and only play through a minimum of 6.

Oh snap, this game has *endings*?!  :o That's new (well, not quite, FF13-2 did it first)

Played the demo, enjoyed it greatly, pre-ordered the special edition. Jealous of outside regions that get the figure with it.

I estimate the Social Gaming thread will be very busy once the game comes out.

>enter southern dungeon
This was your mistake (I totally did the same thing too)
The demo's not really clear about this or maybe it is, it's kinda WORDS-WORDS-WORDS at first and I completely glossed over WHAT 2 DO as well, but you pretty much have to go in order of the quests they give you or you will be absolutely slaughtered, the south dungeon being the final of the three didn't help you much either :ohdear:
Gotta collect beast livers and whatever for a while first and use that quest $$ to buy some upgraded town weapons/armor sooner or later.

or you could turn off encounters, pillage the dungeons, and then do what they want

Wait, there was an option for that?  That seems kinda silly.

(Recently downloaded demo myself, only did like 1 quest so far and I was an idiot and didn't buy armor/weapons first, instead buying magic, so now I've gotta try to get more money saved so I don't take insane amounts of damage.  There's also the fact that I've yet to strike my balance for Braving/Defaulting and haven't figured out what classes I wanna start with but that's another story.)

Yeah I didn't realize the encounter button was a thing until I was doing the 3rd dungeon legit and at that point it'd be more of a convenience to get back to town/dungeon peddlers faster than anything else.

As for classes I found that black magic users and ninjas are the most useful, I wound up pretty much soloing the final boss of the demo with my ninja by accident, and I didn't even optimize her with the Red Magic BP hax skill.  I suspect this won't be quite as good in the real game, between having bosses that will actually do magic damage and I know there's no way this is the order you get the classes in.

Oh the subtitle of the game actually means something. It's not that big considering I've beaten the non true ending and am now just grinding for 99s, but it's cool nonetheless.

Looking into it, the full game both A. hands you classes in a different order, and B. also has a different order for what abilities each class learns (eg Dungeon Master is the level 2 Freelancer skill in the demo, but level 4 in the full game).

The boss at the end of the demo is kind of a jerk on Hard.  Its damage is frankly just way too high; without Default, Mow Down is about 250 damage to everyone and Bully is 700 to one target.  Which is to say there's no way I can presently keep up with it on healing and I don't particularly feel like grinding for a demo so I guess I'm waiting for the full game now whoops.

Not only can you disable encounters(which supposedly has an ingame challenge for doing the whole game without them), you can disable the experience, money, and JP gains for battles.

Though I doubt that you're going to be able to do much of those in combination.

It'll make life easier for all the level 1/no jobs/etc challenges people do.
Hey I wonder if you can do a FF5 Four Job Fiesta sort of thing with this game?  I guess it depends on when exactly and how the jobs are dished out but HMMMM.

You don't get Conjurer until Chapter 6. It's the last job you get. I don't see how you would incorporate support abilities in.
Also man these sub quests are kind of hard late in the game :(

I actually wondered about this myself.  I loved the original FJF earlier this year, and I'd be more than willing to play a challenge run like that again. :)

Well that was fun, I guess I'll just buy all those weapons I skipped over now and call it a 100%.
60 hours game time, many hours just leaving it sleeping.

For context this is the "Summon friend" system where you can summon someone from your friend list/passerby/random net invite and get them to use one move that they 'sent' over. The damage cap for this game is 9999 but through using Bravely Second you can get 999999 through incredible amounts of buffing/debuffing/weaknesses.

Spoiler:
Yes you can change the name of your characters late in the game
