That's always been my problem with the "--- Master Mode"s. The first challenges are too simple, the late ones are absolutely ridiculous, and the progression's far too quick. If they had a set of challenges of several difficulties, and none of that jacked up mod crap they liked to pull, they'd actually be pretty cool.
I agree. If I recall correctly, at least one of the Hottest Party games (I play those games too) was decent with this. Most, if not all, of the missions relied on ordinary, raw DDR skill ("Get X points or more", "Get letter grade X or better", etc), and most of the time, the game told you to choose difficulty level X or
higher, so you could play through a lot of it on Expert if you wanted to. I consider doing these modes again, but they're very similar to just playing the game normally.
Seeing the instructions for some of the VIP Card missions was sort of amusing though in the case of boss songs. "Challenge your limits!" Basically they're saying "Hahaha...Good luuuuck~!"
That's what I thought too, but these aren't the only examples of useless/silly advice. For instance, for many of the missions that rely on mods, the hint is basically "Semi-memorize the steps".
I won't lie about the fact that I used a PS2 controller for most of the harder missions, and cheated on some Trials. I played with a nasty mod, player 2 (nobody, but as long as one of the players hasn't failed, both get to continue playing) didn't, and I read player 2's chart. Anyway, now that I hopefully won't have to go through Stellar Master ever again, I'm going to play the main game, and do it properly (with a dance pad).
Because I've beaten the final boss of Sonic Colours (I found the level before the boss harder than the boss itself), I'm trying to get all of the red rings. It's going slowly. I really don't bother with S ranks.
