Also, Overwatch is fantastic for defence.
One thing you should know about Overwatch: if you Overwatch with vision on an enemy, the enemy will not move and will attack instead.  Generally they'll have pretty bad accuracy, but over time you will take an incredibly large amount of damage if you use Overwatch wrong.  Use it to cover exploration or chokepoints, but don't use it if you can see an enemy unless it's worth getting hit to have them pinned down (always assume they will hit, always).

What difficulty are you playing on?  The game actually cheats for you on the lower ones.

I sorta figured Overwatch abuse might be a bad idea for direct confrontation, but this particular situation benefitted from it quite well. The huge facehuggers (seekers, I think?) entered stealth mode and went straight for one of my injured squadmates. However, uncloaking next to a squadmate triggered overwatch, and three different people opened up on it simultaneously. Ditto for the next one and an unfortunate sectoid that burst into the back door. The difference was that I was bunched up and stationary while the aliens were making a push to confront and attack directly, granting the Overwatch ability to give me the first chance to fire as soon as they came into view in a closed area. Fighting head-to-head seems to merit a more traditional flank-and-flush approach.

Typically playing on middle-high difficulties are more fun for me, but I read that Classical/Impossible are like pulling teeth with pliers, so I stuck to normal. Considering that I'm still learning and the expansion stuff is new, I didn't want to dive headlong into a frustrating experience. This is the kind of game that has many different working parts which makes the early game rough going, especially for someone getting a feel for things.

I've been playing Battlefield 3's campaingn (two years after the goddamn thing was realesed) and, well, it isn't as bad as people say it is! Yes, sure, it's no Call Of Duty, but it's kind of fun.

I'm back to Etrian Odyssey after being distracted...again.  And I got the sub-classes and then fucked up two minutes later.  I accidentally gave my Medic the Arcanist sub-class when I meant to give it to my Nightseeker.  I wanted my Medic to sub in Sniper cause in my head Medics and bows go together.  But it turned out pretty good, I maxed out her Circle Boon and put a couple levels into Poison Circle.  I was thinking making her specialize in Status effects and maybe still subbing my Nightseeker into Arcanist, but having her specialize in Binds.

I still haven't done anything with my Landsknect, Fortress, and Runemaster.  Probably going to wait until I get the Sentinel, cause that sound tanky and a Fortress sub Sentinel sounds really, really tanky.  And there's always that tenth class.

A few things:

- resting removes your subclass and only costs two levels, so it's not a terrible chore to grind back up
- Nightseeker/Arcanist is absolutely boss
- Sniper is a pretty bad subclass in general, particularly on Medic; the bows are nice but you're still going to do pretty poor damage and you'll have lousy success rates with the binds
- Nightseekers are the ailment specialists; better to have your Medic use the bind circles (or maybe switch to an Arcanist/Medic, it's a really powerful combination) - and if you're worried about the poison damage, at level 40 Nightseekers get Venom Throw which deals 700 damage a turn when maxed, as well as Auto-Spread which lets them hit all enemies with it around 70% of the time.
- it's worth having a subclass on your other guys if only for the five free skill points, you can always rest to switch it around if you don't like it.  Some good options are Fortress or Nightseeker (or Bushi, the class you get from the Sentinels - although I should point out that it's not a tanky class at all but a brutal physical damage class) for the Landshark, Dancer for the Fortress, anything for the Runemaster (only the final class or maybe Bushi for silly blood surge runes are good subs to be honest).

Thanks, I misread and thought the subclasses were locked and resting just reset the points.  I guess I'll bench my Medic and respec Wufan or just make a new Arcanist altogether.  And my Nightseeker is 38, so that Venom Throw is gonna be fun.

Diablo III is a surprisingly fun game. I've been playing the PS3 version. So far, I've cleared Softcore Inferno with the Wizard and Hardcore Inferno(Medium) with the Monk. I wouldn't be surprised if I could handle Hard but I haven't really tried it and obviously in the Monk's case I wouldn't want to unless I knew with certainty that my stats could hold up since trying the harder difficulty settings with a permadeath character would be quite reckless. I know I'm not ready for Master 1-5 on either of them since I've tried Master 1 with the Wizard a few times and gotten destroyed due to bad gear and possibly skill setup. Paragon levels were either 7 or 8 for Softcore characters and 9(almost 10) for Hardcore.

I've gotten the platinum now, so I'll be taking a bit of a break from the game before trying the other classes out. Going to go back to Tales of Graces f and work some on finishing that up.

Aww, for FUCKS SAKE. I just lost a one-and-a-half hour massacre on GTAV just because I got instakilled by a Shotgun on SINGLE-FUCKING-PLAYER.
Here is a hint for you, Rockstar: Making games more realistic won't necessarily make them more fun. In fact, it might do the opposite.
Hell, this was my setup: Hide inside a liquor store, kill everyone that comes across my path, and when it finally becomes boring, enter my 100% Armour with bulletproof tyres vehicle and try to escape. When the slaughter was starting to get tiring, I decided it was time to stop, so I wiped the area of policemen and made a run for my car, which was 5 STEPS AWAY FROM THE STORE. Just as I'm about to enter the car, I get shot ONCE by a shotgun and DIE, which made me lose about 27K$; and atleast HALF of that was on that godmode vehicle.
DAMMIT, What the hell am I supposed to do next time, park the car 2 steps away from the store?
BTW, before you ask, I had half my health when I got shot, and a full shotgun blast "only" takes 1/4 of your health, so I should atleast have survived with a little bit of health. I think the game was pissed off at me so it decided to make up some random excuse to kill me. I swear this game hates me.

So I started up Eternal Sonata. Honestly, it'd been so long since I last played a Tri-Ace game that I forgot they loved to have a shitton of semi-needless exposition/infodump before you get control of the character. Also, girl named Polka? Is it really any wonder why she tossed herself off a cliff with that name? (I kid, I kid.)

Also picked up Dragon's Crown. Subverting expectations, chose Elf as initial class (really not interested in either Amazon or Sorceress). Probably not the right choice considering how I love to be up close and personal.
Let's Play: BIT.TRIP FLUX | Let's Play: Malicious | Skyward Sword: Shieldless Final Boss | Skyward Sword: Boss Rush! | Ace Combat Infinity: Campaign in the X-02 Wyvern

Move eternally forward,
So that we may always be at your side.

also been playing Enemy Within here, having a lot of fun with the MEC Trooper enhancements. It is impossible to not enjoy being able to literally punch Chrysallids to death (Unfortunately, I lost a Captain and a Lieutenant on a mission full of them...)

I loved Eternal Sonata overall but I also hated it.  There's some parts of that game that are REALLY bad (The battle system isn't that strong until near the end of the game/NG+ ;
Spoiler:
the 20 minute death scene in which she fucking gets up and writes a letter in the middle of it: the amount of completely unfiltered cheese to the point of having a fucking montage of 'meaningful life lessons' during the end credits
), and yet I also really love some of the overarching concepts of the plot and the battle system gets great later on so ????

Also any time someone mentions Tri-Ace I am suddenly reminded that I still have not finished Resonance of Fate and this is a crime.

  • Not postponed. Not in the end. Not for long.
The mentioning of Tri-Ace makes me remember to ask where the fuck is my Valkyrie Profile 3: Hrist enix.

And still playing Elsword, just got level cap on my Rune Slayer and I apparently discovered that Field Bosses are a great way to make money, especially with such a broken economy. Gems, Advanced Gems, ElFragments and a slight chance of getting +7 Scrolls for free? And a small chance of getting purple seals every 30 bosses along with the game's best Stamina;Experience ratio? Yes, please.

I'm in a bit deeper and loving how utterly overwhelmed I am right now. I've been throwing up satellites as soon as they're off the production line, using them as a panic band-aid. UFOs went from microscopic to Death Star in size in under two months. I'm also dealing with a huge lack of scientists but a glut of engineers. Laser weapons are way behind and I've got a dozen research projects waiting in the wings. Half of my roster is injured at any given time and I've had a number of resets due to losing soldiers I wanted to keep. The RNG can also be a giant ass. A handful of miracles have really helped out and it's real rewarding to see that the entire team of 4 received a promotion after. I've put some cash towards the officer's training school since and it's worth it.
Spoiler:
EXALT has just shown up and I'm just as thrilled as I am nervous for how that will play out. I'm guessing the coughing civvie you rescue early on is intended to be one of them, but I'd rather find out for myself.

Haven't really used the bio-augmentation or MEC systems much yet because PANIC and NO MONEY NEED SATELLITES! Once some soldiers really start to separate themselves, I'll start using it more often. I only just got the arc thrower so I don't think I'm far in the plot yet. BV. Speaking of separating, it's not exactly the most reassuring thing to see the little graphic with the arms and legs being removed from the soldier saying "this irreversibly changes the soldier" or somesuch.

I accidentally put a council mission off for a spell and it vanished. Do they come back again, or did I just lose it forever? I also rolled a mission in Canada with zombies galore but accidentally discovered how hard they hit and didn't wind up with it when I reloaded.

Don't have many interesting randomly generated mission titles or nicknames just yet, but one of my first rookies was a Spaniard with the longest hair (for guys) and a 'stache. He wound up being a sniper. He's now named Inigo "Hello" Montoya.

I'm gushing quite a bit, but it has been a very long time since I've been so thoroughly addicted to a game.

Hello. My name is Alliterator, and I am an XCOM addict.

MEC troopers are love. (Getting the Site Recon mission when you have Carapace armor but only one laser rifle for the whole squad, however, is not.)

I just finished the fourth stratum in Etrian Odyssey 2. The boss was a JOKE compared to Scylla. I didn't even use my force skills.
Extra stages cleared : EoSD, PCB, PCB Phantasm, IN, PoFV, MoF, UFO, TD, DDC

Meanwhile, I'm storming Cinnabar Gym with a Butterfree, an Aerodactyl, a Charizard, and a Gyarados. Oh, and a HM Slave Pikachu.
The ultimate joke would be making Wriggle an EX Boss, but there being a game-breaking bug in her final spellcard that made it impossible to catch.

Think about it for a second...

I'm kind of going... wth is going on with EO2 to require that sort of specificity regarding that spoiler. Then again, never played EO, so wth do I know?

Picked up DJMAX Portable 3 from the weekly sale. I don't know why Sweet Dream and Cosmic Fantastic Lovesong is so addicting to play. Also, Sunny Side's protag looks like she could be a main character in an Atelier game (by the way, Koei, you better hurry up with localizing Ecsha & Logy!).

Explanatory spoiler to explain the above spoiler here:

Bosses in Etrian Odyssey outside of floors numbered 5F/10F/etc are rarities; and so that there's a boss on 23F is a surprise
Spoiler:
also I felt like being ominous

in other news The Typing Of The Dead Overkill is fantastic and everyone should play it (or at least wait until steam sales when I'm sure it'll be on sale it is almost December afterall)

Okay, you shouldn't have any problems.  Proceed.  (Why I asked:
Spoiler:
The next boss starts using a stupidly broken powerful attack called Mad Rush if you have too many buffs on your party - it does 300-400 bash damage and triple binds everyone.  The only party that has any real chance in hell of triggering this though is a party with a Troubadour, which nobody ran in EO2 so even most guides don't mention Mad Rush
)

Finished The Typing Of the Dead Overkill. The final boss is out of nowhere and amazing.

I have been playing a lot of Pinball Arcade recently. I have some story's to share about my experiences.
First off, I have managed to beat Join the Cirqus in Cirqus Voltaire. It is tough especially in the second part where you have to hit the ringmaster and then shoot up a ramp to get him to come back up. I could swear that one of my shots clipped through the High wire ramp and into the Juggler Kickout. I also have started Grand Finale in Theatre of Magic but I didn't finish it as I drained and apparently it doesn't start at Grand Finale again if you happen to drain.
Also, I have been playing a lot of the Ripley's Believe it or Not table which is a fun but very tough table to play on. The main goal is to collect the seven letters in Ripley's to start Trip to Atlantis by completing a task in each continent but the most I managed was 3.
I encountered another clip shot as it clipped through the Believe it or not Scoop and into the Bozo hole. I have also encountered a more serious glitch in that table. During any of the multiball modes, your ball can get stuck in bottom of the bumpers area. In theory, this helps you play multiball and accomplish the task easier. This only works if you can get the ball out which I wasn't able to half of the time. You can call an attendant but it is random whether it works or not. Sometimes, it will say the ball is stuck and will reset it and sometimes it will say it is not stuck. This happened to me a lot while I was having a good run in Bigfoot Multiball.
Normal 1cc: IN,EoSD,MoF,PCB,LoLK-P(403 Retries(Hope to Improve))
Extra Clear:PCB
ISC: All Stages Clear !

Basically, I'm drunk with games and my summer break hasn't even started yet.

I was replaying Black Ops' Multiplayer a few moments ago.
I played 9 matches, and lost 6 of them. 3 because Host Migration kicked me, 1 because of a power outage, and only two proper losses.
Man, my luck is absolutely ROTTEN today.
This also proves how much of an excellent parent my dad is: he scolded me when I got startled after the power went out, and said I should only scream when some emergency is going on. Great fucking parent.

I've been playing A Link Between Worlds.  I finished a dungeon in the Dark World and although I love the game it's been really easy.  I've been having more fun just running around and exploring and finding the babies than the actual dungeon crawling.  And getting into the dungeons is more fun than the dungeons themselves.  But I do love that once I got to the dark world I could go anywhere.  The world maps are great and music is awesome.  And the going flat mechanic is really fun.  I just wish the dungeons were a bit bigger.  Also Link has awesome sideburns in the one.

I picked up Ys: Memories of Celceta and A Link Between Worlds today, so I'll be going back and forth between those a lot. The Gamestop I went to pretty much just got the shipment of Ys in a little before I got there and they hadn't opened the box until I came to pick it up, so I got the first one out of the box!

I also installed Dark Souls a couple weeks ago for the fist time, which I bought at last years Steam Winter Sale, and have been playing that whenever I get a decent amounts of free time. I'm at the Four Kings fight right now.
