First of all, welcome to the forum, as well as RikaNitoris.
If you have a question, you can ask it in the Q&A sections of RikaNitori. (Which you've probably already figured out.)

The script is way too hard overall, but since you've seen the bulletforge comments, there's probably no point for me to say this right now.
The best way to go would be to probably test the scripts for more playable patterns. Boringly easy is better than stupidly hard.

Thank you, I'll be sure to listen to the reviews and comments and play other danmakufu scripts to get a gist of what danmaku ideas are good or bad. I've already started another script and I'll be focusing on variety and lasers (curvy ones   >:D ). Also, I've learnt how to use Custom Shot Sheets (hooray!) and will be using one for my next script.
Once again, thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forums. Now I'm new to Danmakufu as well but listening to feedback helped me think more about what works and doesn't work and I've learned to design my bosses as close to fair and difficult as I could.

1st Non spell ~ Looks nice but but using look based patterns are no good. The purple bullets fly too fast for a pattern that moves you across the screen.
The other bullets don't do anything I don't really see why they're there in the first place.
I suggest using lasers instead of the knifes or loosen the gaps between them so that it is possible to move between them.

1st Spell ~ Again, luck based, starts out nice eventually it gets too dense, not a good combo for fast fast bullets.

2 non spell ~ Fast bullets taking a leap of faith in order to dodge.

2spell ~ borderline impossible, I don't know what you were going for here. Too dense to weave through any of the knifes.

3rd non spell ~ too dense to doge the purple dots. Luck based.

3rd spell ~Too fast to figure out where to move to. If you look at Flandre's time out spell and Koishi's timeout to learn how to use bullets coming from all sides.
If not make them static and have the boss do some something that still causes you to move between them.

4th non spell ~ give warning when spawning bullets across the screen where the player would be, that means increasing the delay to atleast 30frames, the patterns are too dense.

4th spell ~ Completely impossible to clear. Never go beyond a bullet speed of 4 to 5.

Last Word ~ Luck based The light sources are too close together and when you learn that the safe spot is pretty obvious. I cleared it in the same way people clear Satori's last spell. By hanging out next to her.

Overall D+, why, bullet speed and density is what kills the boss, you seem to have spent too much time designing cool looking patterns than testing them to see if players can actually clear it. Remember if you can't do it, odds are no one else can either.

Now, even I still need work but I hope my review can help you like others did for me. Good luck.

I see. Thank you very much for answering!
Could I ask you a question? Do you personally think Danmakufu scripts are good because they are aesthetically pleasing, fun to dodge, a mix of both, or something else?
Looking back at my script, I realised that even though the spells looked nice, they weren't as fun to dodge, either because it was repetitive, boring, difficulty, easy, confusing or anything else for that matter.
I have started a new script with less colour and more excitig danmaku (curvy lasers!), and I don't want to take a turn down the "Rainbow-Super-Fast-Bullet-Spam Lane" again, but honestly, I don't know what most people want in Danmakufu scripts, whether it's pretty patterns and beautiful danmaku (Like Yuyuko and Kaguya), or hard, exciting dodging (Like Utsuho and Raiko).
But once again, Thank you very much for reviewing my script!

Danmakufu scripts are good because their fun, it's not fun when things are unfair and or impossible to do. The way you make patterns comes before making them look cool.

I'm pretty sure when ZUN designs Touhou games most bosses are dull but when he finds something that works he expands on it to create an exciting game overall.

In other words, make something that people can enjoy and everything else will fall into place. This is the basis of Danmakufu and the entire Touhou series.

Look at other Danmakufu scripts(you can even check out mine :V) and study the way ZUN does it in Touhou games and you'll understand. Mostly look at Touhou, you don't wanna go around using other people's boss ideas :).

I don't know if you saw my comment on bulletforge or not.
But to add on to how to make your scripts better.
You might want to set a goal in your head. Maybe visualize a danmaku pattern or just use a simple concept and add more to it. That is the easiest step and the road in front of you now is all trial and error. You want to make the basic outline of how is should work, and keep fixing it to the errors. This part might be tedious, but will soon enough create a nice to look at, and fun spellcard. You should always take your time and try.
The most important thing is the testing. Does it look nice? Is it fun and original? Does it execute well? These questions are for the people playing your scripts. And the final question is, can you pass it yourself? It doesn't matter how easy it is. There are a wide variety of Touhou players, some play on easy, and some perfect lunatic.

You should check out other people's scripts.

Also, you may want to consider organizing that first post. It's just a really large wall of text and smilies until the download link (AKA the important part). Might want to consider organizing it.

I have moved the short summary of the script and the download link to the top.  Members and Guests can read the rest of the thread if they want to, but they don't need to now the 'important part' comes first. I hope that's okay.

Good News for me!
I am currently making good progress for my contest #10 entry of Marisa!
All the Spells and Nonspells are complete, as well as some dialogue and story.
Currently I am working on visual effects and improving my first player script ever.
So far, all of my progress has been made possible because of the feedback from my last script, so thank you all who posted on that topic! The reviews and advice were VERY helpful :D

Current Features:

3 Difficulties, Normal, Hard and Lunatic (Though Normal kind of easy ^_^),
A Marisa Player Script for my boss -- yep, that's right, a Marisa Player for a Marisa Boss! All will be revealed once my contest entry is finished...
Some dialogue and a light story,
3 unique pieces of music for the battle, all composed by me!

New:
 A custom Aura/Magic Circle!
Marisa Player Script finished! She's balanced with my boss and is equipped with her signature Master Spark (that took me ages to code.) She is my first player script  though so it might be a bit crap (-_-")

I'll post again once I have progressed further, or completed my script.
Thank you for creating the competition, and good luck to everyone! This will be very exciting~

Completed!: Contest #10 Entry - Marisa Script

I have pretty much finished my Contest Entry and have finally decided to post it on BulletForge!

Download Link: http://www.bulletforge.org/u/spectral-nexus/p/dark-marisa-my-contest-entry/v/v100d

I tried pretty hard on this script,  using functions I've never used before, and creating my first player script, so it's not exactly the best there is, but I tried!
Unfortunately, the script isn't that effect-heavy,  but effect objects are kinda confusing lol I was having some trouble using them, since they are rather complicated.
Again, this will probably be my final version unless a bug is found, in which I'd really appreciate it if you could post a comment via MoTK or BulletForge if you find an issue. Thank you~

I'm also very proud of the 3 pieces of music I made for this stage, hehe  :3

I hope you enjoy it, and good luck to everyone in the contest!

Regarding RaNGE 10:

You have angered many of the people who downloaded your script.

Here is what I recommend:
Move the BGM folder OUTSIDE of the scripts, then use GetPreviousScriptDirectory to link the files to the music. What you have done with v.100a is forced the players to get 3 copies of a 57 MB music folder, and that does NOT play well with some of the testers.

Code: [Select]
function GetPreviousScriptDirectory(){
  let current = GetCurrentScriptDirectory();
  current = erase(current, length(current)-1);
  while(current[length(current)-1] != '\'){
    current = erase(current, length(current)-1);
  }
  return current;
}

Please use this code so that you can reduce the file size by 100 MB.

Thank you.

I'll scrap the music next time I make a boss battle how depressing being proud of composing music but getting negative feedback on it :V

Also, is there a problem with one of the diffiulties? All three work for me, although it may a problem with the download or the fact that I made the script.

It's not a problem with your script. It's just a mistake I made in one of mine, which cost quite a bit afterwards in terms of stress.

Uh... where's the shot sheet? There aren't any bullets because the shotsheet is missing.

Edit: Same problem as with Ultima.

Code: [Select]
LoadUserShotData("script/Contest #10 Entry - Dark Marisa/Hard Marisa/lib/SHOT_REPLACE/shot_All.dnh");^Original Code

I changed the folder name to organize the scripts, so this was broken. Please don't use absolute pathing. You will have to change all 3 of the .dnh shotsheets and make it so that they work using relative pathing.

Your script is broken.
In your event scripts, you seem to have put the function named "GetPreviousScriptDirectory" in the wrong place, which makes the event crash and not start, which makes the head script crash because no event is running while you're calling GetEventStep. Which could be fixed by using OnEvent to check if it is running before using GetEventStep.
I hope this helps. Since alot of the event scripts seems to act oddly, I suppose this is an error appearing on all difficulties as well as the reason only one of the soundtracks is playing.

Thank you very much for informing me, and sorry for making such a mess of a script. This will probaly be my last script ever, or at least my last v0.12m script, as I don't have enough knowledge of this subject to continue doing this, but I will try to learn ph3 and hope ph3 is easier! I am making another version, but this time I'm making sure that everything's fine when I upload it, to avoid the same problem again.
I will include the unused spellcards if you believe that they are better than some of the other nonspells and spellcards, like you said on BulletForge, as well as scrapping one or two of the crappy ones.
Thanks to you, I've also fixed the problem with the dialogue. I used Sparen's GetPreviousScriptDirectory function outside of the event script (sorry Sparen, for being stupid derp) . I've also fixed the music problem too, although I'm wondering if I should scrap my own music because it got such bad reviews.
Thank you for helping, and sorry for the monster I've made.

...It won't work for me. I think you should use GetCurrentScriptDirectory, but... anyways.

It's not even loading the delay cloud now.

Really? That's weird, I haven't changed anything but the sound effects and a few images, as well as replacing a nonspell and spellcard. I don't know what's causing that...
By the way, I'm using the GetPreviousScriptDirectory function you suggested, which is pretty similar to GetCurrentScriptDirectory, so I don't that'd cause any problems.
It's also apparently working fine for Darkness1 as well... weird.
