Touhou Gensokyo Treasure Hunting
« on: August 05, 2013, 04:37:15 AM »
Or you could call it Touhou Diablo 2, since I'm not even sure what it actually says.

This is the squeal to kouryokutei's Touhou Diablo Treasure Hunter G, and it so far expands to the characters involved in UFO.
A demo is available at http://kouryokutei.web.fc2.com/ (Warning small grey button on page is NSFW becareful.) Just look for the download that says GTR_T0, and above they have a equipment patch for the trial version.

Main image used for the game, seems a very angry byakuren took it out on everyone. But from the games intro it seems they deserve it.

So if you played the first game you already know most of what this game will consist of.
Your home base is on the Palanquin Ship and you travel to "dungeons" by missions from Nazrin. You also can find Nitori's shop and Reisen selling medicine like Eirin did in the first game. But I'd like to adress the changes made to this game and how it may better the game.

1: Mini map is gone. I hated the mini map in the first game, it was bare and couldn't really be called a "map" really. This time to show you enemies and items the side of the screen will you you a Orange or Blue arrow in the direction of said thing. Better change and gives a better idea of where something is.

2: Stats and weapons get a big change, When you start the demo you start off with 4 hp, yes only 4. But luckily everything else does little damage as well otherwise you would get one shot if these where the same enemies from before. Weapons also change up a but but I'm not sure what all the stats mean.

Here you can see attack power, how much Hp the weapons gives, and skills attacked instead of prefixes.

Beside from these changes and a few animations getting redone the music still remains the same, it could just be the demo but nothing changed in the music department.
Here is some gameplay footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI06zTvhCYU

So what are your thoughts? Did you expect this to happen? Are you excited for this one? I know I am, I loved the first one and collecting the unique weapons, can't wait to see who you get to play as and what you can collect in this one, but I do hope you can play as a majority of the characters you could in the first one.

It looks like all items are unidentified? And item stats might be different from the previous game.

Yes, forgot that part. From what I could tell there might be new ones but old ones are there as well. Since the demo only gives you access to wood weapons they have a preset stat but changes with skills, I can confirm that some form of vampirc or blood sucker is in the game. The twin swords are great in this game as well, before the alt attack didn't give you much mobility but they upped it somewhat and your basically a rumba with swords.

I thought so at first too but when looking up info on Byakuren it seems the purple might be or might not be her hair color, I haven't found anything yet that confirms that except that her hair is light on top and darkens on the bottom. But since there games are easy to look at the files you will be able to edit it if you would like to. As of Note of the files, the first game was easy to cheat in if you figures out the codes used in the save file, taking a look at it it seems like it will be harder to do (I'm sure someone will figure it out), which is a great thing for me cause I'm a sucker for grinding for items. Oh do I ever. I pretty much exhausted that game last summer, and even made a whole document covering as much of its gameplay as I could.

If I expected to see a sequel, I would have expected it to be a vast step up from the first, rather than just "Treasure Hunter G Redux". Thus, I'm not sure how excited I am for this one, even if they tweak the weapon system around a bit.

This is something I'll be looking forward to. I've played the first game quite a bit and did a LP series of it as well and it is quite nice seeing a sequel of the first game I truly let's played.

Wow never thought I'd get to meet you! I watched that LP and thought it was pretty good, playing the game before and having knowledge for the LP is exactly how it's done. I've been thinking of trying to do something video wise with the game but I want to be original with it, but with 3 LP's of it already I need to try something different. But that's off topic, from what I read I believe the game will be released in the next week or two so it'll be out very soon.

I do hope for a lot of verity in stats, once I find out something new I'll post ASAP. What I do hope for is that the game will be longer, instead of just going down deeper into a cave you travel in the ship to different areas to defeat bosses and collect treasure, so I hope for a lot of areas to go to since the demo had one that was VERY small.

loved the first game. from the demo so far i'm going to enjoy this one, too.

the enemy density in the area we get to play in is great.

twin sword improvement is nice, i hope we get some with greater range that aren't broken by default though.

i just hope the game doesn't turn into a borderline-mandatory hakkero-fest in endgame though. barring the semi-unstable network play, that was my biggest disappointment with the first game.

Hakkero was pretty OP in the first game. It does insane damage and fairly easy to aim. Plus the knockback made it impossible for a boss to interrupt you. But I wouldn't say it was mandatory. Other range weapons like Dolls and Knives work fine too, but the melee weapons were lackluster, except the unique one.

EDIT: For Hakkero, I meant only against bosses. It isn't that great against regular enemies.

This is gonna sound weird but the Sword and shield (SnS) may not have a lot of attack power, but that block move got me to end game. With that said I'm hoping for some kind of SnS unique and maybe, just maybe, have a watermelon GS so I have more of a reason to use Cirno as a character more, if we can even play as the old ones.

I completed the game a while ago (last boss took 1 hour to beat), when I noticed that I didn't have Kanako yet, is it a bug or do I have to complete a mission certain way...
Also, new characters are:
Nazrin, Kogasa, Ichirin, Murasa, Shou, Byakuren, Nue,
Spoiler:
Miko, Futo, Tojiko, Chen, Ran, Yukari and Kosuzu.
All this characters are playable.
All other characters from the last game, also return. Including the ones from the Oni Patch (which isn't translated).
My main team consisted of
Spoiler:
Yuuka
and Kogasa.
Also you fight almost every single character to unlock her.
There are also new unique items (Discover them yourselves).
Also a new thing is that you can upgrade items with Nitori.
There are many other things that are new in this game... but I won't mention them all (I'm tired).

Sorry I know your tired and all but for all the characters to unlock are they part of certain quests to get or just happen upon them like the first one? Also are there a lot of new areas? (hopefully bigger then the demo's level.)

I'll try my best but a few quick questions about them, is there one modeled after each characters? (EX I like to have Youmu use her swords and Alice with Shanghai and what not.) And are the Uniques OP like they were in the first or are they more balanced?

How does upgrading work?

(No rush for these answers btw don't want to bother you too much since you said your tired an all.)

Hakkero's or Marisa's mini-hakkero can't go through walls, the same happens for dolls.
Suika's twin swords are a bit OP if it does appropiate damage.
Spoiler:
Shou's pagoda is a very good weapon, but it still can't go through walls.
Youmu's twin swords haven't changed.
Sword of Hisou hasn't changed.
All weapons now do less damage. All enemies and bosses have now less life. All rings now give less live to the users. All enemies or bosses now do less damage.
All weapons, rings and enemies became nerfed.

I think I exaggerated the thing of fighting almost every character but you do fight a character a lot of times. Example:
Cirno is fought for the first time, then the next mission you've gotta fight Cirno, Mystia and Rumia toghether, next you fight Letty and Cirno...

Alice is a starter character, Youmu is unlocked once you defeat
Spoiler:
Yuyuko.

Ther are only five maps, but all of them have like 150+ enemies and 1, 2 or 3 bosses. (Except final boss map) The maps are:
The map in the demo. (I don't know where it is)
Youkai Mountain.
Hell of Blazing Fires
Spoiler:
I think it is Mayohiga
Some snow area that I think it's from PCB.
Spoiler:
An area above the Palanquin Ship (The final boss area).

Upgrading:
If you find a useful or unique weapon but it does like 8 damage, just upgrade it using other weapons that you've got in your inventory.
Example:
Shanghai does 10 damage, if you got a wood sword that does 12 damage you can use that sword to upgrade Shangai's damage to 13 or 14, or if you got a Mithril sword you can upgrade it to do 76 or 78 damage... once you go through the limit (which is 140 respectively)
you'll be forced to use unique weapons only to upgrade it.

I remember playing this last summer and it left a lot to be desired. Aiming a lot of the weapons was hard, I remember there being a lot of grinding. Using ranged weapons was also really hard because of the camera angle. However, the worst part of the whole thing was how hard it was to switch weapons.
Diablo II had this neat feature where you could hit w to switch to a second pair of weapons so you could employ different strategy quickly. This game gave a very similar ability, except instead of switching weapons... you switched players... and then your weapons went with you.

lol, I remember my strategy was loading as much HP onto my partner and send them in to keep the enemy busy while I stood back and tried to kill the opponent as quick as possible using the Hakero.

That is not a lot of areas, I'd figured you'd go to many different places. Sure the first game had a lot of the same floors but I still felt like I was traveling a long way down. So the unique weapons start weak like a normal weapons but you use other weapons to make them stronger? I kinda kinda see where this game gets grindy, gotta love that artificially lengthening tactic.

Is this game not on Melonbooks DL? I can find it on normal MB but I don't know what I'm doing on DL.

I've actually been working on a translation for this game, it is mostly(if not completely) done, i should be able to release it very soon.
i don't think i will translate cutscenes however since they use images for the text so i cant copy paste it into a translation program.

Well I'd hate to take on another project when I'm still not finished with the first. Are the cut scene text on a separate image layer like the first game was? Compared to editing UI to English, just a simple transparent layer is very simple and wouldn't take more than a day or two. (Work and all.)

I've also been working on a translation. Mostly focuses on items and UI, but I do have some dialogue/quest info translated. I would suggest using the item names I've come up with... especially if your translation is like the Touhou Diablo one, and literally uses the filenames as names. For instance, the "Blood Red Greatsword" (which doesn't look anything like a greatsword) is actually the "Hiryuu Katana".

I'm not sure how your translation is going to work, but with mine, I'm actually trying to preserve the original Japanese files while having completely separate exes and script files. Also, I have a translation script that find-replaces the lines I want to translate, that way the game can be easily trans-patched if it's ever updated. This also means any future translation efforts won't fall to the same fate as Touhou Diablo (we still don't have a trans-patch for the Oni Patch...).

(I would've posted about this all sooner, but I couldn't bring myself to bump the thread/make a new one, and I only just noticed the thread got bumped)

Eyup. Could probably make the English overlay text in Sony Vegas. Someone would just need to write out all the Japanese and translate it.

Anyways, translations aside, one major problem with the game's netplay is that flags aren't synced. Essentially, if you and a bunch of friends start up a new game, only the host will have access to things like unlockable characters, Accessory-making, and Mystia's Stall. I'm trying to see if there's anything I can do with the game's script to actually have these things synced.

in my translation everything but the cutscenes should be done(menus, npc speech, items, quests) i only edited scene.lua, i started my patch for 1.0 and had to use a source comparer to update it to 1.04 lol
...actually i made a shoddy oni patch translation(using bytehacking so i had a nasty character limit, my fav example is naming momiji "Mmj" lol) a while back but i don't know where/if i should post it
i did do some of the basing off of touhou diablo, but i run everything through a translator to give me a hint so only somethings use the filenames

edit: i just looked through the code a bit, and in theory syncing the quest flags doesn't look too difficult, you need to add a custom mailtype and send it on looting a quest chest and have it send the quest name to set the flag.(but i wonder if the game will break if done out of sequence)

If I start now and find decent font that is close to the style of kanji used I could get it uploaded by Sunday. I'd just need to know they say and it would be very simple. i fiddled around a bit more with this and i managed to make it so when the host collects the quest item everyone gets their flag set, and they also get their reward money+cutscene.
i playtested solo so i didn't even realize this was a problem, but then again this happened in the first game to.
as for there being 2 translations i'm not sure what you want to do, my translation might have a few missing pieces but is otherwise complete, but i'm pretty sure it has quite a few errors in it.

OK sorry to make a double post but just thought I should to get some more attention to this.  I went ahead and did the first text of the op, had to go into google to get a text form of the image and then went on to different places to get a better translation.

Old:

New:

I tried to remake this as close as I could, I do see now that I could make the outlines a bit bigger to match the old ones but I'd like others opinions on it.

In the translations department there is only so much that I know. Making each Kanji in Google might take me a long time (and with limited access to the internet... yay for moving....) but unless someone has a better way of doing it I'd very much like to hear it.

Also if we are serious about making a translation for this game then we could start a topic in the Rika and Nitori's Garage Experiments thread, that might get some help on places where we are stuck at.
