Arcade Stick setup help (Specifically for th7.5/12.3)
« on: March 19, 2013, 10:15:46 PM »
Hey! This is my first post because I'm kind of new to Touhou, so hello and I'll cut straight to my problem.

I have recently bought myself a Hori Real Arcade Pro VX-SA Kai because of my increased interest in Hopeless Masquerade. I discovered there were previous Touhou Fighting games as well, and decided to check out Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and Hisoutensoku and I'm really getting into them!

My arcade stick arrived today, however I'm pretty down by the fact that the directional joystick will not work for any TH game.

I have also tried using key mappers such as Joy2Key and Xmapper, however the games recognize both the stick and the keyboard so I get a mixture of both. I've also tried using XBCD however I have no idea what I'm doing even when I'm following instructions.

I've tried using this stick on other games and it works just fine. I would really appreciate it if there is anyone else who has had this problem and would be able to help me. If not, are there any arcade sticks that definitely do work and you'd recommend?

Thanks for reading!! I hope you can help

I have what I think is the same issue with using a 360 controller. The solution I found is this:
1. Set the game to use keyboard controls and pick all the keyboard controls using the in-game options.
2. Map your stick AND buttons using Xpadder (or similar) - map ALL the controller buttons to the keyboard controls you selected, even the face buttons
3. ONLY use the real keyboard on the menu screens. If you use the stick on the menu, it'll switch the game into controller mode and stop recognizing your stick again.
4. Once the match starts, then you can use the controller without it changing back on you.

Thanks for the reply!!

Well I've found out that it does work! I've just been playing a game of th12.3 without any problems!! And I have found out my problem!!

I've found that two of my buttons are broken when I got it :X

So I can either send this back and get a replacement OR get a refund and a brand spanking new one.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I wouldn't really like to go higher than ?130... on a budget y'see...

Grab a MadCatz BrawlStick, a set of Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons, and a Sanwa JLF stick (the same buttons and stick that the Hori uses). It's really easy to change out the parts, and it doesn't have any issues with being recognized by PC games.
