Ikari:
That's usually what I *try* to do, I take short 10-20 minutes naps, but then I become addicted, and I take them again, and again, and again until whoops, I end up sleeping all day / falling asleep for many hours.
Error:
Had a mini-dream where apparently I had hemorrhoids but the nurse wanted to double check,  so I bent over.
After about 10 seconds I heard the nurse shout "EXTEEEENDING AAAAARM"

Then I awoke in a cold sweat.

You and me both. From what I've read and heard, A dream diary can actually help in that regard.

From the dreams I can remember (more or less), I've had a few Touhou characters pop up pretty randomly. My dreams are as disjointed as ever, but I can clearly remember impressions of certain characters. For example; in one dream I was talking to Marisa and Daiyousei in my livingroom, but it then turned out it was a virtual reality simulation. In another dream I was packing for a trip and forgetting things all the time while Alice was involved in the trip someway (she just kinda appeared halfway into the dream).

Speaking of dreams and something mentioned in the OP;
from my experiences, if one is playing a game a lot or watching a certain series, the dreams often revolve around playing that game or watching that series.
On the other hand, if one reads alot of stories or discussions (using a lot of imagination I believe), the dreams starts either including parts or characters from the stories or revolve around the stories.
I have also noted that if I'm well rested (slept at least 8 hours  each day for a few days), go to sleep, sleep ~6h, wake up and then sleep for 2-4h more, I have a higher chance of remembering the dream. I think its related to sleep cycles, as Kaze_Senshi mentioned, and REM sleep, but its been awhile since I've read up about it.
