Another way to look at it: You have a character who lives within layers upon layers of metaironies and insincerity fused with the least subtle or ironic character in the series; personality-wise. Equius is probably more straightforward than Doc Scratch was, all told.

Equius also has the exact -opposite- of the desire to manipulate others. That plus what you just said should help... mediate the scary weirdness of the AI. But yet create something horrifying in a different way. @_@

I dunno, I would say Equius did want to do some manipulation, early in, as he did have some takeovers and betrayals planned. But he's certainly alright with the contrary, for reasons that are neither ironic or worksafe.
