>Did Orin show a propensity for such things, and are we just being lectured on things we largely already know?
>How common are beast (and other kind) of youkai superiority complexes?
>Rin does have good hearing, but she's never made a big deal of it. From what you know, though, hers may not be as sharp as Kiku's. She actually doesn't make a big deal about much, when it comes to herself. Her previous owner wasn't interested in hearing her talk about herself.
>You are relatively familiar with the subject matter of Eagle and Lynx's lines, but you wouldn't call it a lecture, per se. They're just making conversation.
>Arrogance of that sort is somewhat common among winged youkai, especially birds. They can fly. And they know it. Magicaian-type youkai, like Patchouli's family, also are reputed to hold themselves as above the next person, be they human or otherwise. Patchouli herself seems not to share that mindset, but from what she's said of her family, she's the odd one out, in that sense.
>You've known a few Oni that have no qualms with looking down on other species. Konngara comes immediately to mind. They're the race with completely legal slavery, after all. They're far stronger, and tougher, than any other youkai species on the planet, and their history is one of conquest. Even currently, the United Nations of Eire were united by the Oni, who overthrew the human rulers of those countries one after another. Despite this, the Oni with obnoxious arrogance and superiority complexes are rather rare. In fact, it is an Oni, Suika Ibuki, who's the most beloved figure in town.
>Tengu, however, are the worst offenders at this. Their racial arrogance is proverbial, and nearly all the tengu you've met has done nothing to dispel this reputation. Aya appears to be the sole exception among the Tengu you've known. She's very proud of her work, and very competitive with other tengu, but the traditional Tengu superiority seems to have passed her over, at least for the most part.
