What if everyone in Gensokyo was asexual?
Considering the very, very low quantity of males in Gensokyo, everyone's either asexual or into same-gender relationships. Which raises a very interesting question: what about the humans? It's canon that Marisa has actual parents living in the human village, IIRC, even though they're never really brought up. But what about Reimu? She's only human and only ~16-ish. Where does she come from, genealogically? And if youkai prey on humans, there'd need to be a good, fast way of replenishing the supplies, so to speak. After all, youkai outnumber humans by quite a bit in Gensokyo...
My theory is as follows: humans in Gensokyo are much like amoebas. They can replicate via budding. Given this, it is likely that there are several mini-Reimus growing out of her shoulder or something this very moment. (EDIT: HOLY CRAP THAT'S WHAT YUKKURIS ARE!! @_@) Why budding? For one, they need to reproduce asexually due to the lack of opposite-sex partners. For another, sexual reproduction is slow: 9 months and you only get about one or sometimes two humans out of it. Youkai would drain the humans resources of Gensokyo in a few days if they replenish themselves so slowly! Budding fixes both issues, allowing for asexual reproduction
en-masse and ensuring Gensokyo's youkai have food to survive indefinitely.
I should also mention that Gensokyo's pretty old a place, and if youkai have been living there seperate from the outside world for many years the human village's human supplies must have been able to replenish themselves fast enough to keep up with the youkai population's needs. It would be empty by now, otherwise, and Gensokyo's youkai would've pretty much all starved themselves out of existence.
What if Cirno were the real goddess of the Hakurei Shrine, and all her idiocy had really just been a ruse to bolster Reimu's confidence?
