>"Huh, TM28 y'say? I'll have to look into that sometime. But maybe I should see about getting my hands on an Onix sometime. I prefer the fire type, but eh. You take what you can get, yeah?"

> "That life!" The nurse beams.

> "Actually while we're at it, what can you tell me about the Gym here?"

> "The Leader Falkner is dreamy. He's young, handsome, polite, intelligent..." the nurse slowly trails off.

> "...and the pokemon?"

> The nurse snaps back into reality. "Right, I'm sure you're much more interested in that. Falkner uses a Pidgey and a Pidgeotto. They have trouble with rock and steel types, and don't do well against electric and ice attacks. He's fairly new; he only recently inherited the gym from his father with the obvious accusations of nepotism. I don't think those accusations are entirely fair; he may be inexperienced, but he does have some talent. And he's cute too..." She begins gazing off into the distance, you think she may have forgotten about you amongst her fantasies.

>Ponder about what Patchy said. We punched a legend... Is that gonna be a problem?

> You ponder it for a moment. Probably not. Back home the shrine maiden punches out legends all the time. Somehow this makes them her friends.

> Alright, you don't completely understand how friendship works, but aparently it begins with beating the crap out of them. You doubt it's going to be an issue, but if Gensokyo's anything to go by you can expect the dog to visit you for tea this afternoon. Though you suppose you could always ask around.

>Only those two? Perhaps we should start here... If they're not giant though.

> This city seems like a good place to get your first gym badge. Although you can't bring Dash with you if you want to challenge the gym tonight, since it's still recovering from being steamrolled by a volcano.

You sure you don't want to hit the cave first?  If we stick to the path we might find something that could help.

I say we should do the gym first, to get experience in pokemon battles. But i dont care which comes first

Since we're already here, we can just fight the gym now and go to the cave later, so we have one trip less.

>Gym

> Ultimately, you decide that you would be better served going to the gym. You can always explore caves later you suppose, whereas the gym is here right now. You thank the nurse for all her help, and leave the pokemon center. After walking a few minutes, you come across the gym. You enter it and are greeted by a young man.

> "I am Falkner. This may have been my father's gym, but it has lost none of it's strength when he passed it to me. This battle for the Zephyr badge will be 2 pokemon each." The man then initiates a battle with you, calling forth a pidgey.

> "Yo better check yo-self before you wreck yo-self. I'm the leader of this here gym and taunting me is gonna get you capped, punk. Yo Pidgey, let's show him what this gym is all about, fo-shizzle."

> You aren't confident he has the slightest idea what a tengu is or what it means to be as impulsive as one, but you are confident you broke his brain. He commands his pidgey to do aerial maneuvers like loop-de-loops and cork-screws, more intent at showing how awesome his pidgey is than actually battling you. You wonder if he's trying to give you the first move.

>What moves does Flint have?

> You know Flint can peck at the pidgey, and you believe it has various growls and leers it can use to intimidate the bird. You believe it can use mirror move and mimic whatever pidgey's last attack is. You consider using mirror move to copy all of Pidgey's stunts.

> You know, the flying equivilent of a dance-off.

> Although having never seen Flint's acrobatic skill beyond the occasional knocked-down cocoon, you decide to challenge Falkner to a fly-off anyway if only to further annoy the leader. You instigate Falkner:

>Chuckle. "Heh, not bad, but lemme show you how it's done. Flint, Mirror Move! Show him how a real ace flies!"

> Due in no small part to Mirror Move, Flint keeps up with Pidgey and manages to copy every move. Falkner is absolutely fuming. "Yo think yo something special, punk? I bet yo got nuthin' on this. Pidgey! Cap spearow's ass with a triple corscrew peck attack!" You aren't sure you want to copy this move, as it looks like Pidgey is barely in control of it's direction. It also looks like it will hurt if it connects.

> Dodge Corkscrew Peck, and counter-attack with a sensible one if Pidgey is unlikly to crash into anything.

> Flint narrowly dodges the attack, countering with a peck of its own which sends Pidgey spinning completely out of control. It hits the ground with a thud. It gets up and tries to return to the air, but one of it's wings won't move properly, and it ends up fluttering in circles in the ground.

> "Pidgey, return," Falkner says, calling the pokemon back. "Time to get serious. Pidgeotto, use whirlwind!" Falkner sends forth a larger, similar looking bird, which blows heavy winds throughout the standium. Flint is having a lot of trouble staying in control in these winds.

When there's heavy winds running about, it might not be a good idea to have something in the air. Consider switching to Lighter.

Nope, not that I've found. It only fails if the opponent also used Mirror Move, or if they didn't choose an attack.

Mirroring Pidgeotto's idle flapping isn't going to produce the same big winds for us then.
