I think the forest is actually one of the safest places in that aspect. I don't remember any aggressive youkais living there... probably Marisa and Alice's fault (especially Marisa). I do think it's crowded with fairies and other low-level stuff though... |

Actually, it was mentioned in the books that there are even carnivorous plants capable of eating a person... In retrospect, just being an ordinary human and alive outside of the protected village or shrine is a feat unto itself. |

Bumping into Rumia or Mystia would be a SERIOUS issue though and whoever comes close enough to SDM to be in China's sight is very probably dead. As a human living in Gensokyou I believe I'd look up to Reimu and Marisa and would make my best to pick up magic. Ideally I think I'd wish to be at a level somewhat... say, a slightly hard stage 3 boss. Strong enough to fend off 90% of the problems and not strong enough to pick up the attention of the strong people. That and try and make friends with said strong people whenever I could. Yukari's gang and the people of Youkai Mountain come to mind, both groups being "approachable" (the first one through Chen and the second one through Aya and Suwako (Also Sanae to a lesser extent)) |
