It may not make a difference now, since I realized 20 minutes into my starter trip that I forgot my stuff at home.

I guess I could take a picture of his, though.

>She nods, as the two of you come to the last chamber before the bridge. The floor is made of numerous rocky shelves, on average about a yard high, that forms a kind of natural stairway down toward the far side of the cave. The tengu takes to the air and starts to float down them.

>"I suppose she's busy," says the tengu.
>You make your way across the bridge without any harassment from annoying youkai. The Ancient City is as lively and boisterous as ever, so at least you aren't going to have to deal with worse than usual. You note a small shift in your companion's posture, as she starts to look to and fro, turning her head just a little every so often as the two of you walk into the city. The streets are moderately crowded.

> Do we know anything about the relationship between tengu and oni?

>You cannot blame her at all. The last thing you want to do is stumble into some oni by accident.
>You don't know if there is an official relationship or not, given the two have little contact with each other. You know that the tengu and the kappa apparently banded together to drive the oni out of their old home, but you don't know any details beyond that. As far as you can tell, the oni don't hold a grudge over it, but you've never ally asked.
>You follow her down bridge street and into the market. The smells of the various foods in the air are pretty tantalizing, even if you aren't all that hungry at the moment. Oni are milling about, passing through, and visiting the various stands. Here and there, out of the way of the crowds, you see the occasional oni musician or band playing away. You don't see any signs of the human anywhere, nor any signs of a chase in progress. But you do note the occasional oni who seems to be particularly watchful as they walk around.

> "Looks like I'm not the only one looking for this guy."

>The tengu nods. "I noticed that, too."
>Soon, you reach the main intersection, where Bridge Street opens up to the pub district. The tengu heads down that street, still keeping wary. Here, the crowds grow heavier and more raucous. The stands give way to various taverns, while the alleys are largely populated by oni sitting on rugs or sheets, selling whatever they've brewed at home. You're well aware that most of the latter drinks aren't made with non-oni in mind.
>As you pass by a small oni with a flute, standing by the side of a tavern, she calls out, "Oy! Don't recognize you two!"

>"So close, too," the tengu mutters under her breath.
>"Didn't think so," says the oni, as she pushes herself from the wall.  She's barely five feet tall, wearing a red ankle-length skirt and an orangish blouse lined with frills. She gives you a grin as she starts to approach. "Not often we get to see your lot around here."

>Danmaku typically doesn't harm it.  Unfortunately, it's not feasible to really hide in it; your back would be exposed and it's pretty hard to move around like that.

>You dodge to the right, and find you are still well within the path of the spray, before heading upward and flying over it. As you predicted, she immediately follows with another spray, this one fanning out vertically rather than horizontally.
>She was standing close to the side of a building, there shouldn't be anyone else in the way unless you get particularly reckless with your attacks.

>Fire a basic danmaku spread, then zoom in behind it and apply bucket to face.

>You fire a basic spread as a distraction. When you're being more honest with yourself, that's about all it's good for; you never really got the hang of closing gaps very well. And indeed, the oni slips through your pattern easily easy as you close in toward her. You pick up speed to try and ram her, but she's already moving out of the way, you'd lose too much momentum at this point to do anything.
>The oni laughs and throws more spreads of red kunai in your direction; one diagonal and one vertical. You can hear oni behind you cheering.
