Pesco:What about hacking a shikigami into having a ridiculous Party EXP bonus to increase exp?

Is there a Shikigami with that as a scalable ability? If not, it's hardcoded.

Well, I know Tewi and the Tora No Ana promotional shikigami's Party EXP increases as they level up. If they're hard-coded though...

Isn't there a way to simply hack the level value itself? It was fairly easily done in TGoS, so unless they added even more confusing code in there, I don't see how this is any different.

I didn't play GoS, so I never got round to it. Hacking level would work if a character's stat values were based off the level value. All I can see it doing is messing with how much exp you need to level up. It won't help you learn the high level skills any sooner.

Oh, and about Utsuho's squishyness level in comparison to others; one factor to keep in mind is that POT is like VIT, except for magic (and status effects I guess), and Utsuho has the lowest POT in the game, wheras someone like Sunny only has slightly less VIT/HP then Utsuho, but WAAAY more POT. Marisa barely has less vit/hp in exchange for still a good bit more POT (Not near as much as sunny) and Patch has more POT then Marisa although a lot less vit.

So, overall, Utsuho is still probably the most fragile character in the game; it's just she'll take physical hits a bit better then Patch.

Okay, after getting my ass totally handed to me in the third Makai, I went back to the first area and found where I was actually supposed to go.  Suddenly every battle is not a party wipe! :toot:

The boss before you get Orin was brutal though.  Mostly for being able to oneshot Marisa and Nitori in the same AoE attack, and once they were down he just pumped the Fire land all the way and murdered my face off.  Ended up needing Mokou's Last Word to win.

EDIT: aaaand Yuka was surprisingly easy!

Trying to decide who I'm going to use as my final party early.  Reimu's going nowhere, and I'll probably hold onto Marisa.  The other three slots are open for debate, though Mokou's probably keeping hers.  Youmu will likely get switched out, and I'm considering just making that Yuka for a) early replacement and b) two solid physical attackers/tanks.  The last spot currently has a kappa in it but I'm thinking Shikieiki will probably take that once I get her (which I understand isn't for a while?)  Also finally got 15 shikigami.  New ones mean I have to start swapping.  Hm.

Do you get the other main characters on every route?

Oh yeah, I forgot one important thing: Elemental weapons do give training to their chosen magic elemental... with one thing I failed to note: They also gain attack power based ON the magic elemental and physical elemental levels... and the magic elemental part actually ignores defenses entirely. This means early on, the elemental weapons are a godsend against enemies not resistant to their chosen magic elemental weakness, but later on weapons with slayers do better for random battles depending on enemies.

This means while elemental weapons can give their bonuses to the weapon itself and be stronger in raw attack than slayer weapons, stacking slayer effects still works like it did in GoS.

Wait, I think I got the stats mixed up. POT is defense against magic? Then what's DEX?

shim:Yeah, you get all the characters on every route, but the four main characters are only available very late in.

rizul:I suppose, but that requires you to have the correct slayer; elemental weapons get the raw attack power increase, and can hit weaknesses on enemies similar to how a slayer hits the monster type.

I'm sure slayers are probably stronger when you've got the right one, it's just that it seems elemental would be more all-reaching. So both have their advantages! Especially considering that sword skills have slayers anyway (Still missing the added slayer from slayer weapon but you lose some you keep some etc.)

ninjaedit:DEX is weapon accuracy and status infliction accuracy.

The translated stats in the wiki, which I assumed were STR/VIT/DEX/AGI/INT/POT, are Force Strength Dexterity Rapidity Cleverness Luck. Are those the stats, in the same order? Because I assumed that POT was purely luck and, well, yeah.

Yeah it's in that order.

It's a little silly that they english-ize the final stat as Potential when in japanese it's apparently Luck, but :V The partial translation of the manual shows that the stat is for a character's "Hidden Power", which sounds a lot more like potential then luck anyway, so

The stats are in the same order.  POT is a weird in-game reference as the stat translates to luck and it's not really either.  POT is both magic defense and resistance to ailments.

Not really, you can actually find her
Spoiler:
as soon as you finish the second level
. Or even earlier, if you don't mind not exploring every single pixel of a map.

Yup, after a certain event I really don't want to spoil, not even on tags. It's just so fun.

Yeah, that's weird - you ARE supposed to clear the towers as soon as you find them, though, the enemies in there are not too hard if you've beaten the tower guardian. That zombie will kill you millions of time even after you beat everything else in the game, though, she's annoyingly hard to deal with. Tip against her:
Spoiler:
capture those ice ghost girls somewhere in the first area of the game, they have a skill that nulls water damage for one turn - and that's something the zombie loves using.

Yeah, there's a lot of problems with that boss as a whole. Even at much higher levels she's still an issue. By comparison, the boss of the second tower is much, much easier.

God, I really should get back to this game. I was at the point where I was going to start looking through the third strata, having finished everything in the first strata and STILL getting my butt kicked by the first tower boss.

Hookshot get!  The only point I can remember needing it for led to the Three Fairies.  Are Star and Luna any good?  (Not using Sunnymilk, waaaaay too squishy, even with the boatloads of POT.)

Star Sapphire starts with and learns a few useful support skills (Resurrection!), in addition to some light attacks; Lunar Child is about the same, although her support skills would only be infliction of Silence and a Large range heal, in addition to dark attacks instead of light ones.

North of Hina's place. That, Momiji's cave and the three fairies tree are the hookshot places in strata 1.

So, I would appreciate a detailed explanation of what each of STR/VIT/DEX/AGI/INT/POT is now that I'm completely confused :/

And there's no stat that raises the chance of criticals occurring, then? :@

I believe DEX affects the chance of criticals and I recall seeing a post that INT affects how much crits do.  Not certain about those.

Is there any sort of work on an English patch for this? Because I'd love to play it, but not knowing the language makes that somewhat difficult.

I'm more than willing to provide assistance on a patch but I'm not going to start the effort; I have no time to do any sort of administration or management for something like this. Sorry!

So for the first tower boss, is there any weakness to her? Or does that battle really have to be a battle of attrition.

This game is actually pretty easy to play even if all you know is just a bit of katakana to read most skill names. I feel I'm losing a lot by not understanding the lengthy dialogs that happen everywhere, but I know those are going to be translated eventually, so it's not that huge of a problem.
So for the first tower boss, is there any weakness to her? Or does that battle really have to be a battle of attrition.
I have absolutely no idea. I have tried every magical element (but Mystic, actually, I forgot about it) and nothing seemed to hit any weakness, the only kind of debuffs that land on her easily are stat debuffs that don't change anything... the best way to go at her I know thus far is
Spoiler:
using Burabura's cheap water attack-nullifying move to make most of her attacks trivial, then stacking blunt resistance on a tank and using Provocation with them. Then hitting her with as many blunt attacks, or defense-ignoring attacks as you can
. I find it really weird for something so tankish to have no weaknesses at all, so I most likely just haven't searched hard enough.

By the way, oh cool someone beat the last boss in two turns. Obvious spoilers, so derp.
