I understand how you could miss seeing this, but this is really another example of you trying to control too much, Sonae. It probably looks like the opposite, since you're allowing people to do missions unrelated to the main plot, but that's the problem. This isn't a video game, it's an RP. Having designated sidequests isn't really appropriate. If players want to go off from the main plot, they should just go off from the main plot. They can have things come up for their characters, or have something draw them away, or whatever. But that's not what you're doing. By making designated sidequests, you're saying that we can only go off from the main plot via them. If people want to do stuff off of the main plot, just let them do it. Don't limit them to given missions, even if they are allowed to suggest missions.

Anyways I might aswell address GYMO's post now.

Okay.
First of all, Not everyone will just head out and do shit without some kind of trigger. So far the only one that i know could head out to some random part of Gensokyo without any lead is Takuma. No one else seems like they'd take the initiative.
Second, I haven't heard a single one of you come to me and say 'Hey, I want so and so to go to Youkai Mountain at some point'. I know a few of you have asked me about some things, but No one has asked things like 'can I go here' or 'can I meet her'
Third. With Optional Missions set up, it forces me to plan out various things to keep players busy. I think you've already seen that some characters have almost nothing to do. This is a solution to that.
So how is that too controlling? Would you prefer I keep leaving those that don't get themselves involved out? Not everyone is able to force their character into things.
And who said that these missions would be the only plot deviation? It wasn't me. The actual plot doesn't kick in for a while and I've said many times. Discuss with me.
You've seemed to have completely miss my intentions.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got an update to rewrite.

For Sanaya, Takuma, Tetsumaru, Laresa, and Kisei, you should either be there by now, or just arriving.
Trance, feel free to have Youko nag you two if you want. She's your character after all.

I'm seeing the sidequests more as additional stuff to do between plot events, kinda like how they are elsewhere.
Keep in mind, they're in games like D&D too.

If somebody wanted to stop Kisei from pilfering the shrine like a dirty parasite, that'd be great. I don't think I will, because Kohaku will do her best to take Kisei's head off. And that would probably be frowned upon.

No, I completely understand your intentions. I just thought you were going about them inappropriately. The balance between freedom and structure is always tricky to get right in something like this, and it looked to me like you were leaning too much towards structure, although now it sounds like I may very well have been wrong.

I will say one thing, though: I recommend that you don't require players to clear absolutely everything with you. If someone wants to suddenly have something come up in their character's personal life, that really shouldn't have to be cleared with you. Only things that could affect the overall plot should have to be cleared with you, at least in my opinion. It's kind of hard to tell right now, of course, but once the main plot actually kicks in, it'll be easier. But whatever. It's your RP; I'm just giving advice based on my own experience with RPs, both running and participating in.

She may not know Suika's name, but she's seen Suika. When Laresa shows up asking about a girl with horns, well, I would imagine that Kohaku would recall the girl that showed up to stop Youmu from attacking her. Then Laresa's just going to ask where Suika is at the moment.
